If they are partners, it’s a golden age. Otherwise it’s dying. Truth is, it’s been slowly dying since it came out, only really seeing high player counts after the Disney content dropped.
Maybe if RARE had focused on making content over recycling content and making multiple ways to track stats that nobody cares about or asked for, they might have held on to some players.
They need to just admit its the most interesting game they hate.

I been around since 2018 and noticed that Anyone who is closely associated with rare. Mods cms partners. will tell you the game dying is a nirvana fallacy you made up in your own head and you're a brain dead pirate for thinking the player base reflects the games state and there are DEFINITELY not hackers in sot. Yes the mods cms and rare employees in there discord talk to there player base like this.
Anyone with a brain who isn't employed to lie to you ,will tell you the truth. Which is it is in fact a game on its last legs with abt 8k daily players.and is in fact a dead game.servers are dead 90% of the time , game runs like a dumpster fire , and every update breaks the game more and more . They wonder why there player base dropped by 20k since 2021 . Maybe if they pay attention and look they'll see they're blatant incompetence is why.
Glad we're finnaaaaaaly done with all the foundational work, we survived the dark ages of the system updates, looking forward to the actual new content we're hopefully getting this year!

I wanted to play this game day 1 but have been PlayStation forever… my time is coming….
Skull forts wars... they'll never know the glory of fighting against 4 separate gelleons as a sloop and coming out w/ the loot after a couple of hours brawling.
Im beyond excited to be able to join you guys at sea! ive waited years to be able to play this game. There is gonna be a massive wave of new players. Alot of people on PS is hyped for this. I have probably 4-5 just in my small circle alone getting it.
It really is a fantastic game, unlike any other game I have ever played, best with friends.
I recommend starting by just visiting some small islands collecting treasure chests and other assorted stuff washed up on beaches, getting a feel for the game and killing the occasional skeleton captain., then after a couple of sessions try some basic treasure hunts or skellington captains.
Then increase it from there....
I am jealous you get all the new guides explaining how it all works in game, when I started you just had to pick it up by experimenting and the occasional TH-cam vid.
I strongly advise you to keep an eye on the horizon at all times, half the ships are happy to form an alliance and work together, the other half will blow you out of the water at the slightest chance.
Once you get a small amount of in game money I recommend buying a general storage crate at a trader at the start of each session, it really helps you to speed up getting resources from barrels on islands, it's just a small but really helpful tool that speeds up your start each session.

Hope SOT actually gets back to its golden age. Season 9--->10 was just a horrific time with these update Delays. Lets see what is coming...

OH INDEFINITELY think about it.
Back then the most complaints we had was a lack of content and now that ps5 is getting everything we never had at the start in there start will greatly boost its view on the public’s eyes.
People still say there is nothing to do in the game even though they don’t try it.
The fact ps players have no pirate games- any good ones really💀Will help sea of thieves reach a new stage of attention.

In 2018 in the first week SOT came out I spawned at Golden sands outpost, Even though it's not here anymore, it remains my favorite Place in any video game
I came back after almost a year break and i was very pleased with the newer updates, really hoping this continues

Lost Treasures was a fantastic update. New QOL, cosmetics, and events. Every week there was something to do. Let’s not forget there were events running from this time until adventures started. The events were better from February 2020 - December 2020 than the seasons ones though.
Sure, events aren’t as good as mercenary voyages or bilge rat adventures, but they were something! SoT in seasons is a sorry state compared to years prior.
I’m a little more hopeful for this year. Let’s just put 2022 and 2023 far, far behind us.
Honestly - Rare lied and underdelivered so many times that it is really hard to start believing in SoT once again. If 22-23 didn't killed this game, probably nothing will at this point.
Oh it did. The games as dead as ever and runs worse then your average beater. 8k avg and losing thousands as months go by. It won't survive 2024 . And it's rares blatant incompetence that's done it .

I'm willing to bet a huge part of the playerbase is on Gamepass and Xbox, and now there'll be a huge influx from PS5. The game's fine. More than fine, actually. If you look at average players on SteamDB, it has actually been *growing*, not dying.
Runs poorly? This new Direct3D 12 update has increased my performance tenfold. I'm getting 144FPS on max settings, and I'm playing with a friend who has an old IGPU, and has a pretty good experience. The game runs really damn well.
i havent really enjoyed SOT since they introduced seasons. i used to love getting the special (weekly?) voyages and grinding ashen chests/keys for the set

Yes. Yes it is. I am absolutely loving it again. The game is consistently engaging now. My only 2 gripes are the servers do be quite jittery lately and also though I dont mind the double gun nerf it has led to combat feeling a bit clunky. Not being able to fire for a second after taking out a weapon feels horrible. Honestly I would rather they revert it and this is coming from a sword/pistol user.
I'm really hopeful for the upcoming year. I love the game and I still played through the dark ages, but it's time for something new
They should copy the Helldivers 2 Warbond system. Bring back every single previous season as a choice of progression track.
Big jungle islands and cities would have been great. It would have blurred the lines between this game and AC4

I don't know. When heard that adventures were canceled, I felt like "okay, after this update when Flameheart comes back the rest will be updates on stuff to do with no story updates." Probably not, but I joined the game during the first adventure, and they are what mostly kept me coming back besides Tall Tales. If I have to wait years between tales, then it will just feel like the story has come to another halt for me. I don't want tiny crumbs of the story; I want the next course of the meal. I guess I just hope more voyages can be like Legend of the Veil, they are part of plot.
I'm really hoping this will be true. Anti cheat with a new huge wave of players is really good for the game. I think they should really focus on bringing that adventurous aspect to the game though. I feel for a lot of people it went from a fun pirate game where you don't know whats gonna happen next to grinding choosing between world events fotd or hourglass.
I’ve been playing since season 2 and I think this is the best place SoT has been in. Honestly at this point the only features I’m wanting are a hunters call update (it needs some love) and outfit saving (because that was promised like a year ago)

It would be dope if they brought some new animals as well. Could help update the hunters call emissary by adding new types of meat (hammered, tiger sharks, mako, etc). Also needed is a sea serpent boss or Moby Dick, would be epic🤔 maybe sea turtles, dolphins, or manatee friends they give you faster transport by water after you feed and befriend them🤔 would be pretty sweet rare, if you're listening...😅

My first ever spawn in the sea of thieves was on golden sands 3 years ago
Rare actually hired some proper people for the job so.. finally they stopped saying at every update "we have never done this before but super excited"
They needed to hire like 5 different studios to carry them.
The "Safer Seas"-Mode is also great. You can sail in peace with no disturbance of other player pirates. Only NPCs. For certain things you need to go to the "High Seas"-Mode.
ROFL "Golden Age"? I can't play more than 30 minutes without a crash to desktop. Yesterday the moment me and a friend got into battle, BOTH of us crashed and we sunk. Every pirate I encounter in game-chat is raging over server lag, hit-reg, and ever increasing number of glitches/bugs. Menus don't load anymore and I get stuck inside them buying supplies then supplies never load. My entire 24 person guild hasn't logged on in weeks.
Navel-gazing from social media influencers about "Oooo, what comes next???", when the current state of SoT is swiss cheese. What level of broken does a game need to be before any of you will call out a CORPORATION for selling a broken product?

@Gremlin-Glizzy I'm 10 ft from my router, hard wired, over 200gb down load, 70gb up (fastest internet my state infrastructure will support), playing on a Series X. The game was broken by witless devs and lowest common denominator consoomer drones like you delay fixes by assuring multi-million dollar corporations they can get away with delivering bare minimum functionality to paying customers.

The season 12 update got me finally interested in trying out this game, and I couldn’t have made a better choice. This game is amazing. Keep your head on straight, treasure isn’t yours until you sell it, you’ll be fine.

Ive just come back after a few years hiatus, im niw mire addicted then ever and am playinf more then i ever have and plan on continuing.
honestly i would love a full season just fixing harpoons and making them actually grab stuff because they're the most frustrating thing in this game besides skellies and phantoms not being stunned when you hit them

The skellie and phantoms not being stunned actually translates to players as well sometimes, which is supremely annoying.
Yeah harpoons are kind of weird,sometimes they go all the way in the sky or totally go through the treasure.
The worst part is they work worse these days with the aimbot than way back when they had no assist
Given the fact that the dev team was gutted so Rare could create Everwild, I highly doubt we will see a new "golden age". They gave up on Arena because of Everwild. Their excuse was so they could focus on Adventure, but anyone knows that is bs lol. They need to revive the dev team that they had at launch, actually fix hit reg, funny launches and so on. Overall SoT is in the worst state I've seen. I've been playing since the Technical Alpha and love this game dearly, it's my muse. So sad to see how tone deaf the devs are toward the veteran players as well.
The Sea of Thieves team is not working on Everwild!
I think the game is really returning to the golden age. New platform to game on, from 5 to 6 ships in one server now, and an anti-cheat to finally enjoy allegeance.
The only way I’d come back is if something like sea dog arena comes back, as for now the game has only had 2 eras for me SDA (Sea dog arenas era) and ASDA (After Sea dog arena) ASDA is also often referred to as the dark ages of SoT

A couple friends and I have been lookin for a new game to play together since we’ve already played destiny2, warframe, helldivers2 and NMS into the ground. We’re on PlayStation and have had an eye on SOT for awhile now since it’s coming to us at the end of the month. However I’m still skeptical.
I’ve looked around for honest reviews of the game yet can’t find one that goes into the details of what all the world contains. Leaving us in a place where we don’t know weather or not we would enjoy this.
I’m looking for people opinions on the game. What they liked, what they disliked and their overall impressions of it in recent times.

I miss getting content in Sea of Thieves, I miss tall tales since the story telling and puzzle solving is why I fell in love with the game with the occasional pvp with other players
what ive never understood about this game is why there are no ship upgrades, the gameplay is fun but I just don't feel "rewarded" once I complete a run or advace in the game, are there any games like SOT but with the reward of actually improving ur ship outside of cosmetics?

I'm ready to start playing again. I quit for the last 2 years because of the content drought (after arena, and the fireworks and cannon rowboat season)
I bought the game on ps5. Waiting for the countdown. Im so excited for this game and know its right up my ally. I dont play many games at all but this looks fantastic. I do have the concern of just being bullied out of the game from all the oldtimers. This will definitely make the ps5 community stop playing. The only way to progress is make money and if you can never make a dime... ppl will quit and leave bad reviews leaving this game with no future.
Unless the preview has more ships/players per server and Athena 2.0 (new faction, new chest, new quest), it's meaningless. Athena having value and players on a server are what made the game work. Both of those are long gone.

I honestly didn't expect to get this much bang for my buck with this game
I wish rare would do what 343 and Halo Infinite do in the middle of their seasons... They know alot of people are done with the tiers so they add mid season events, along with a new 20 tier battle pass.
I've been done with the season tiers now for 2 weeks and I have another 4 weeks or so wait. Ugh
For me it looks like Rare saw the opportunity that Skull and Bones could re-light the pirate game genre and now they are just profiting off of Skull and Bones' AAAA Disaster because it is so much better than what Ubisoft was able to achieve in 10 years :D

Started early January this year. It feels like something is missing with the lore. Would be awesome if all these events that happened before would be redone as a Tall Tale or smth. Could ofc change cosmetics rewards to recolor to keep the originals unique for those who have them. But am totally addicted to SoT even after hundreds of hours played.

The thing SoT should do is implement some late game goals. Progression in this game is only horizontal not vertical and is only in terms of cosmetics. Its somehow good for new players like for example if you lose against sweatlords with thousand of hours in game its because of them better know the game and have greater skills. New players want to put their hands on those sweet cosmetics and thats their motivation, but what about the old players? They already have stacked millions of gold, most of cosmetics and they do the same activities over and over again. Why should they stick to the game? To get more gold?
A Sea of thieves 2 is what I want. I feel like the engine limits them from doing more ambitious things
If the engine is the problem they have to stay with rhe problem, because unreal is the best we have.

if sea of thieves had 3rd person as an option, I would play it regularly. but 1st person gives me motion sickness and the max I can play is an hour.
The release on PS5 is honestly what brings me the most hope. We're in an era where most are getting sick of exclusivity and people just want to play with their friends no matter their preference. similarly. There's not enough PVE games for people to relax with. sure, SoT is PVPVE but you can do whatever you like in it. PS players can load into an open crew and be greeted by the Microsoft vets waving and eager to introduce them to the seas, Or they can Make their own crew together and conquer those who've called it home for 6 years already.

I feel like every year has 1-2 updates max that are good enough to excite and thus we are always ina cycle of death and rebirth.
They need EVERY update to be exciting.
I played for 3 years but uninstalled in November last year I think I’m gonna reinstall like a week before it comes out on ps5 i think all the new pirates will make it fun again
I haven’t played sea of thieves on my xbox series x since season 1 with game pass due to players always following you. So now i’m back in due to changes & more player friendly they added safer seas I relearned the basics. I’m definitely picking it up on PS5 I got the premium edition I just wish I can transfer my xbox progression over to PlayStation.🤣

Thoughts on an update to how the kraken works?
It appears at random on each server, you can beat it by one of three methods.....
1. Shoot the nearest tentacles on either side of the ship, can't remember how many times but after a while it withdraws back into the sea possibly leaving a reward in the ocean, mainly Kraken meat. Concentrate on the nearest tentacles, the farther ones don't count.
2. It's possible this outlast it, given enough time you can outlast it and it withdraws.
3. If you drop full sails and are lucky you can sometimes sail outside it's radius and get away.
Killing it is the best option as you get commendations and possible access to cosmetics. It seems impossible but as long as one person keeps bailing and repairing the ship while another shoots it shouldn't be too bad after a while. If a bigger ship just scale up.
If a tenticle picks you up swipe at it with your sword as soon as possible, it will drop you into the sea, get back to the ship asap and continue.

We need more stability overall, it's literally the only thing stopping me and I'm sure others from returning no new content is going to excite me as much as the uncertainty of what's already out there...just make it stable please 😢
New player here, one thing lacking in this game is ENEMEY TYPES 😅
On another note, I'm one of those players that tried and did everything the game has to offer.
Now I'm just a completionist doing every single commendation there is.
Hunter's call is almost done, but those battlegills and stormfishes are gonna be the bane of me.
The biggest challenge is always gonna be the Shrouded Ghost... thousands of hours over the years, but still no sight of that bastard.
The second biggest challenge in my opinion are gonna be the humble/generous gifts.
With this season the way how people can spawn events via diving for them... the only way you can get gifts now is by a regular for spawning as a world event.
Which for the past weeks has only happened ONCE.
And all you'll get once you compelte it is ONE gift :^)
Gonna be real fun grind!
But I can't wait to have more options to grind some of these commendations and hopefully with the anti-cheat the hourglass pvp is gonna be more bearable.
I just want more open world stuff man, if we get too many damn tall tales though
i wish they would give us SoT "classic' with just skullforts as world events like back in the very early days. that would revamp openworld pvp since there would be nothin else to do and pvp chokepoints would finally work again. 🤷♂ i miss those days even though i enjoy the new content
They need a progression system in this game, something meaningful and game changing to work for. I don't want skins for shit lol. Maybe a skill tree or boss drops with low drop rates that are more powerful
What is needed is rare needs to drop the volcano and geyser spawn I got trapped on a small island water rip because nonstop geysers and a volcano erupting 6 times every 30 minutes
It still sucks rn. It’s way too slow of a game when moving across map and it feels rare to find anyone moving freely across the sea

When the PS5 pirates set sail I think rather then pillaging them day one I'll maybe set sail with some swabbies in the discord, its easy to be lost on the seas as a new sailor

Golden Age will be when they add higher FOV. At least REAL 90, not what is max now.. about 60-65 (marked as 90).

There is ALOT more than just 4 games being ported to Playstation. Phil Spencer said in his OWN words, he wanted to see if Playstation had a TASTE for xbox games.
MEANING if they sell well expect the Flood Gates to OPEN. And SeaOfTheives is currently #1 BEST seller on Playstation, and pretty sure HIFI Rush is selling well too. So it's safe to say alot MORE are coming. These SMALLER games are generating HUGE profits for Microsoft, So BIGGER titles will follow for MAXIMUM profit

I desperately need a melee rework. I think the throwing knifes are good leap in that direction, but let's be honest the sword combat is so boring and weak that most people simply carry two ranged weapons. Swords need to be more dynamic and the attacks need to be more fluid. It can not stay as a 3 slash attack and pause, it's just super anti climatic. take for example melee FPS like Chivalry and Mordhau, then mix that in with something like Dishonored's simplicity and I feel like you'd hit the spot quite well. Of course, make it simple, something that doesn't require a steep learning curve.
What we need is less pandering and more content/ fixes.
Sea of thieves is like Yellowstone. It’s on the verge of transforming into more modernization and we are fighting to keep it from happening! Bring back the era of Golden Sands!

As someone who bought in at Season 8, on the heels of the playerbase choosing to ressurect Flameheart, joining in at the start of HG and expecting Flameheart to return next... SoT has been one gigantic stretch of absolutely nothing. Nothing at all has happened storyline wise since I bought the game minus MI which I had zero interest in. They need to get this ball rolling.
And now they've cancelled adventures.
That anti cheat really worked out well didn’t it…(sarcasm)
They went from the digital equivalent of no obstructions whatsoever to the equivalent of a fence gate with no fence.
Load that whining up in the canons, hype yourself up with unrealistic expectations of content updates and smooth gameplay, and get ready to fire that load of disappointment. Or, enjoy where the game is, and be ready to grab grab grab the cool new dynamic coming.
