but you didnt tell us if our gold from high seas carries over to Safer seas Im trying to earn my DA set in athena area, So does gold transfer back and forth cause if it doesnt then theres no use playing safer seas because it take a millenia to get Dark Adventurer
I'd like captaincy to be able to quick sell random loot but I started playing long before it was really hinted at so it gives me some nostalgic feelings needing to carry everything back to specific factions. I wish we got tomes still even if it was only 1 book from each set just for there to be more options to get doubloons for newer players with all reaper loot otherwise being removed.
I got attacked when I was working on the shores of gold and the pirate's life more then once, and almost every time it was periods when I had NOTHING worth stealing. It was infuriating, so I always did my tall tales during the hours when there were fewest players online, one of my strategies to play through the tales was deciding "will I need my ship for this one" and if the answer was NO, then when I got where I needed to go, I'd scuttle my ship and forget about it until the end when I or one of my crew would fetch the ship at the end.
if you have no loot and aren't a dick any decent SOT'r will let you continue , but i have boarded people screaming talltalers with loot stacks hidden lol, i got gold curse before checkpoints so its been really ch(easy) since
tbf its marketed as pvpve, you don't go into another game which advertises that and complain that you're "forced" into pvp, its a part of the game. you lose the risk, you lose most of the reward.
@@jjrulez1596 tbf despite being marketed that way, they constantly add things that are instanced PvE, like Monkey Island and Pirates of the Caribbean; so that point is completely moot. They clearly have no issue giving you things to do privately so long as there is no reward, which is the point OP made.

As someone who does enjoy the game, and has adapted the mindset of “if I sink I sink” I am happy to see that rare has listened to the community in making something that’s more new player friendly for those starting out as the maiden voyage is alright with giving you the short basics of the game but kind of just throws players to the wolves. I’m also happy that it’ll allow me to go through the tall tales and not have to be looking out for ships just trying to sink me for the fun of it when they get nothing out of it
That's a good mindset to have if you aren't setting out to do anything. Personally that doesn't work for me, getting sunk after a long voyage is just crushing.
@@Clown_the_Clown ima be honest, the way i've been enjoying pvp (granted i am a pvp player, so take this as you choose), but its more about the fight, sure if you have a bunch of loot i'll fight, but if you don't have much loot (~50k+, or emissary grade 3+), I roll on a "don't mess with me, i won't mess with you... much" (gotta do some trolling tho XD)
I was asking for this mode for a few years, I was even willing to pay extra just to have this experience. I don't mind the 70% loss of reputation/loot at all because of the frequency with which my ship would be attacked and I would be repeatedly killed until I quit the game- you can't make any gold at all if you can't turn in loot, and you gain no reputation if you can't finish voyages and stories. So 30% rewards is infinitely better than 0% from having no desire to play the game at all.
@@lovewingsmc enjoyment issue. It may shock many people, but some players don't LIKE PVP. There are people who prefer all PVE or coop games. This provides opportunity for people who just want to play the stories, maps, explore and not have to be looking over their shoulder all the time.
If you thought you were getting attacked alot before, just try High Seas now after Safer Seas was added. Basically every boat will be considered having a "Beeline for me because I want PvP" sign on them with the new toxic spam being "lol, go back to Safer Seas."
@@Clown_the_Clown We can only hope their numbers show more in Safer Seas than High Seas. If even only to point and laugh. Bethesda learned it with Fallout 76. Turns out, majority of players did NOT want to roleplay as Raiders, choosing to roleplay BoS/NCR/Lone Wanderers in their PvPvE game.
@nerddotcom5817 I wouldn't count on high numbers. Me and my friends have been talking about coming back for safer seas for ages but none of them are willing to play this nerfed version. We work for a living and might get to play together a couple times a week. We don't want to spend that time running from A-holes who get kicks out of running other people's fun and it would take us years to level people on safer seas. They decided they would just play something more rewarding. I wish I could get back all the money I spent on cosmetics because I'm definitely not going to play without them or my custom ship.

Was playing the regular high seas mode and nobody was online (great for me, a solo slooper who sucks at PvP). Was basically playing safer seas with 100% gold :D
That has happened to me as well. Either way I did all my grind in the Roar all of it. And I can safely say I am an expert in the Roar. I been a pirate legend for over 3 years now. So having those rare solo servers back in the day was calming and felt nice.

Yes. It is too restrictive and half-baked at best. They won't listen to the OGs who need new content and a pvp system that actually engages players, they won't listen to the silent majority that WANTS full pve access. They sure will sell you some cosmetics, though!
Aye. They prefer to listen to the vocal minority of hardcore PvPers. I want prosperity for both PvE and PvPers, not for either to be ignored. The only group of people who should be ignored are the sweaty PvPers who think everyone should be forced to PvP.

@@Clown_the_Clown Problem with that is the game's numbers are dwindling because of lack of content. If they were to permanently split the playerbase in its current state, that would kill the game.
@@kiro-fo9qgIt's a combination of a lack of content, and Rare refusing to do anything about the large amount of people who just want to play the game in peace. Honestly as of right now the only thing i can complain about is not being able to get our own ship our use an already bought ship in safer seas. It doesnt make much sense to me. I do hope that rare sees how many people like PVE and allow for more to be done in PVE while also keeping High seas rewarding. i think everyone should be able to experience the entirety of the game with and without PVP. I could never get into SoT before PVE because playing solo was nearly impossible. Now i can actually see why people like the game. its just too bad i cant experience all of it as a solo player because some of its locked behind PVP.
@@irmiwolfWhile I do understand that, the solution seems rather simple, why not just cap the captaincy milestones the same way company reputation is already capped at 40 in Safer Seas? That way people are able to bring in captained ships to SS but can't freely grind every level, that seems like a much better solution than outright locking captaincy for Higher Seas use only.
Well captaincy is mainly for the sovereigns and the sovereigns increase the speed at which you can sell. If their goal is to slow the rate at which you earn gold it kinda makes sense
I don't there should be a trade off for wanting safer seas, the game itself is meant to be chaotic with the pvp. Doing all of this would just break the game. I get not like getting sunk but like abandoning the actual pirate mentality is a bit extreme to me. It's should crushing sometimes but I think this pretty fair. It would be really cheap to have the captaincy, sovereign, and emissaries

@@thehauntedpotato6125 As far as I care captaincy is "the way you get to have a permanent ship customization." If there are gameplay considerations that make it unsuitable for safer seas, maybe those should be decoupled from captaincy.

im sure they will! definitely sounds a lot healthier than caring about the hobbies of people you're never gonna meet and how high their arbitrary video game numbers are. weirdo
i’ve had the game since launch but never completed any tall tales because of the pvp griefing. this is such an excellent option because i never realized how lore rich sea of thieves was and how satisfying of a puzzle game it was because i never could make it far enough to enjoy those parts of the experience. and yeah im not the best at PvP, but you can’t have forced PvP like this when 95% of the game requires slow, methodical movement because you’re assuming that players are always going to play in good faith. and they don’t. they exploit, troll, grief, and don’t require a reason to do any of these things outside of boredom. even fucking gta online has passive mode because they recognize pvp should be opt-in. passive mode never ruined my enjoyment of GTA and i ultimately found myself not using it as much once i was ready for confrontations
I feel the restrictions are fine, but will likely he loosened as time goes on. I battled my way up to pirate legend years ago, and earned most of the accommodations and cosmetics. I had to finally stop playing the game due to endless battles, griefing, and players with cannon aiming mods. I got to a point that I just wanted to sail around and have fun with my newbie friends on the high seas, without constantly fighting hour long battles over 3k worth of treasure. Now I can actually do that, sail the sea, goof off dancing on active volcanoes, and leisurely complete their tall tales, without worrying some annoying people are going to come over and start shooting at us, bullhorning about fornicating with my mom.
Something I need to point is that the payout of Safer Seas isn't 30%, it's actually around 12% due to the lack of emissary flags. A lot of players are going to see the grind and just decide the game isn't worth it, even with "real" money being available in the High Seas. Remember, the Devil's Roar pays out _double,_ and most players hate sailing there. How much worse are people going to feel about something that pays out _eight times_ more, but veteran players still want out of? You can shout "risk/reward" all you like, but if players don't find the experience satisfying, what's the point?
@ZombieCartmanYT sorry for late response but I just think they'll make PVP people and PVE people happier if they make both of them the same, but make progresssion in factions/cosmetics separate whether you're on safer seas or normal
Pretty much this. Except me and my friends haven't bought the game yet in the first place, but it was on our radar since we could tell if they made a real PvE server out of it we could have some fun with it. But this kinda half-effort where it feels like they still hate PvE and the only point of it is to entice people to what they still view as the real mode, PvP, isn't effective in our books. By restricting it all and punishing folks that like PvE for just sticking to the mode we prefer ain't it, all it does is keep us aware of the fact that they still don't want us as players or buyers.

Fact of the matter is - people don't want to go to SaB for the pirate PvE because the PvE in Sea of Thieves is unique. The SoT community isn't really friendly - there seems to be a split between people who are just there to have fun and the same kind of toxic people who enter GTA lobbies exclusively to ruin everyone else's day, with a skew towards the latter. I love SoT's PvE but hate the PvP, and wish I could treat the game as a pseudo singleplayer or PvE experience - funnily enough, like GTA private lobbies!
@@calmaxys3114 Yeah, have to agree with you. Have to quickly mention actually that since my last comment, I wound up having a player chase me for a good two hours. He was doing all this just to fuck with me and make my experience that much worse. Normally I'm pretty passive with the high seas mode, but this has changed my mind, I absolutely despise having to play with other people. A lot of toxic players just enjoy making other people miserable, for no incentive other than ruining the experience, and that sucks. And despite apparently having one of the "friendliest communities around", I've found Sea of Thieves to be one of the worst, it's just rife with people like this. Stick to Safer Seas people, the game has been out long enough that these players don't need to do this for gold, they want to do this to be spiteful.

I commend Rare for adding this gamemode in the first place, much to the dismay of the tryhard PVP players who will sink a freshly spawned ship with no loot "BecAuSe iT'S a PiRaTe GamE aBouT sTeaLinG!" Not only does it give those who just want to relax with a Tall Tale or grind a majority of trading company rep without issue the ability to do so, it also gives new players a somewhat "easy" mode to play and use to learn to the game without being sunk and killed upon immediately spawning in an outpost. (Which happened to me on my first day, I was camped constantly and hunted down despite the fact it was pretty obvious I was new to the game, which almost made me quit and refund it.) That said, there are some things I take issue with and others that don't make sense at all to me. While I'm greatful this gamemode exists, many of the restrictions feel unnecessary and like a massive kick to the teeth for PVE players who just want to enjoy the game without being hunted by that one DA sails sloop while on a Tall Tale. The big thing I really don't get though is why you're not allowed to bring in purchased ships. If Rare is worried about people grinding ship levels without the risk of Higher Seas, why not do something similar to the company rep cap? Since they've already capped most of the trading companies rep at 40 (some all together) on Safer Seas I don't think it'd be that difficult to do the same for ship levels, so why not cap ship prestige/level progress on SS and allow players to bring in their purchased ships? If not that then at the very least they could just allow ship customization presets on Safer Seas.
I like the balance rare has done even though I won’t be playing safer seas I’m glad to see it’s built with new players in mind and not for mindless pve grinding
The restrictions shouldn't be there. If people don't want to play the regular mode, that's bad design of the main mode. People shouldn't be forced into PvP.

@OnTheSeaOfMemes That's fine, if you enjoy PvP, great! I'm just saying that people should have a choice, and shouldn't be punished for choosing one or the other. PvPers should be able to PvP, and PvErs should be able to grind and progress. Neither should really be forced to do either.
That 30% hit is too much. It would have been better to do. 50% base, with Emissary buffing you another 50%, so max Safer Sea is min High Seas. This teases how much you can make in High Seas without making Safer Seas too much of a grind fest. To compensate for Emissary being available, AI Reapers will spawn in, matching ship and grade to come hunt you down. I would also add in Reapers again, and AI Emissary's spawn in for you to hunt. If nothing else this teaches how Emissary's work. My overall thought though. Safer Seas isn't going to do well.
It's not going to do well. Out of the 20 or so players I used to play with all the time 0% of them are willing to come back for this. They don't want to play with their head on a constant swivel and they aren't willing to play this nerfed down version at all. @@shxdeesot And this is written by someone who hasn't put themselves in the mindset of a new player. So many making this argument without putting thought into what a new player will actually get into. Even for the new player experience this is bad. Here, let me even set a scene for you. A new player get in, hopefully does Maiden Voyage, then gets put into Safer Seas. Let's assume they have a friend so they can duo Sloop at least and have someone to chat with. They head out the tavern, and pick one of the three starting voyage givers, lets do Gold Hoarders for example, and set out. Sense these are the lowest tier of voyages to do their payout will be a couple dozen coins per chest. ((Here I even did some math for ya. Castaway 18-39, Seafarer 42-78, Marauder 84-156, Captain 168-330. So very little, and a new player will not see many Marauder's starting out, let alone Captain's. Maybe they'll even find a gem! Which is 300, 450, and 600 respectfully.)) Course doing these voyages barely makes a dent in earning Rep so they realize they'll have to grind to get anywhere. They then go check out the cosmetics shop now that they have a little bit of money, okay, expensive for the amount of gold you get but not crazy, then they go look at ship cosmetics. They like the look of Kraken lets say. They will need 300,000 gold to get the full set. One of the set needing 50,000. Sea forts currently are the best way of making money (something a new player won't know) and you will get about 5,000 a fort. A full, basic, ship set will make you do 60 forts. 10 per cosmetic. So, even if you were to get nothing but captain's chests with max payout. You would have to get 152 Captain's Chests, for just ONE of the ship cosmetics. So very few new players will see this and think they should keep trying to learn. Course, people argue that this is the tutorial! A way to learn! Not to be used for serious play or gold earning! Tell that to new players, who will be taking it seriously. Course a new player will like that to an extent, except with rep gain being so low, they will never fight the harder skeletons. As getting to rep 40, which is max in Safer Seas and get the better voyages that spawn harder enemies will take... fuck I'm not even sure, dozens upon dozens of hours of grinding, maybe over a hundred. So they won't get challenged really, and sense gold is even more grindy then before, they are barely getting rewarded for it. A brand new player will stop at some point and do one of two things, either stop playing, or go to High Seas before they are ready, because they want to progress, get kicked in the face for it, then come back to Safer Seas. This cycle will continue until they leave, or get good enough to stay in High Seas, because they learned on High Seas. You are asking ALOT of people to sink in a lot of hours in for no real payout. No, the current implantation is bad, EVEN FOR YOUR ARGUMENT.

IT WAS AN EVENT WITH MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF LOOT DESIGNED FOR THE SOLE PURPOSE OF GETTING PPL TO PVP THROUGH THESE PVE EVENTS. thats what sot is, pve leading to pvp encounters. we see this with literally every world event this is how the game was designed. why do you think none of the pve in this game has any level of difficulty whatsoever if you have an iq of at least 80? because it would be impossible to do these world events MADE for attracting pvp if the pve aspect actually had any challenge to it. you have to deal with both pvp AND pve at the same time. this game shouldnt EVER be treated as SOLELY PVP OR SOLELY PVE EITHER. the two go together and they cant exist properly without eachother. if sot was a pve game only anyone with a brain knows it would have died by now. it takes the devs MONTHS ON MONTHS to release new pve updates (which are literally designed with attracting pvp in mind anyways) and the pve they release if you take the pvp aspects away from it will get old and stale in a week from the repitition. THE ONLY THING KEEPING THE PLAYER BASE ENGAGED LONG TERM IS THE PVP AND ONLINE MULTIPLAYER ASPECTS!! if you dont believe me just look at another pvpve sandbox game like minecraft for example. NO ONE PLAYS SINGLE PLAYER ANYMORE CUS THEY'VE DONE EVERYTHING THERE IS TO DO. the only thing keeping minecraft alive is the online multiplayer servers. it doesnt take a 160 IQ einstein to figure all this out it just takes a little bit of rational thinking. this game needs pvp and pve TOGETHER at the same time to survive wether you like it or not and if you dont then this game isnt for you and you should move on to a different one. simple. SAFER SEAS RESTRICTIONS ARE JUSTIFIED IT IS ISNT A PVE GAMEMODE ITS MAINLY MADE WITH TALL TALES, FISHING, AND FAMILY GAMING WITH LITTLE KIDS TO HAVE FUN FIGHTING SKELETONS WITHOUT OTHER PLAYERS IN MIND ITS NOT FOR PLAYERS TO MAKE MONEY IN. IT ISNT MADE WITH PROGRESSION IN MIND, ITS A PLACE TO UNDERSTAND THE BASIC PARTS OF THE GAMES LIKE THE EASY WORLD EVENTS AND HOW STUFF FUNCTIONS SO YOU CAN BE READY TO MOVE ON TO DOING THAT STUFF IN HIGHER SEAS AND IF YOU CANT HANDLE THAT SOT ISNT FOR YOU ITS THAT SIMPLE
Yeah I feel that while it will be nice, commendations such as this should be not able to be achieved, but if they were maybe giving a really good reward for anyone who did it before safer seas
@@Imagigamr4295Ah yes, because fishing commendations should require partaking in PvP servers. Can you even call yourself a true fisherman if you can't defeat 2 ships at the same time right?
Does this mean you can get the kraken commendations much easier? Since you can just complete a world event and sail to open seas to guarantee a kraken spawn
The same people who complain about this mode are the same people who specifically target and sink newbie players just for laughs. 🙄 They are killing the future of their own player community every day, and they don’t even think about it. 🤦🏻♂️
I can definitely see them changing a few of these things to be available in safer seas. The fact that I get a warning of long wait times to find a server tells me they have alot of people playing.
it's almost like there is quite a big group of people sick and tired of dealing with the toxic pvpers who ruined this game for them for so long.... To bad pve people are being punished by being given a watered down version of SOT
I honestly think they were forced to create Safer Seas by MS or investors. Especially considering their long-time stance against such a mode and their pathetic attempt at creating it.
I’m happy safer seas is a thing, I don’t mind the lower gold and rep. But I wish it was just half instead of 30% 😅 kind of seems too low for rep and gold. Also I feel everything should be there except for the ability to earn athena and reaper rep and representing those factions (you can do athena missions or the tall tale themed Athena missions but without earning rep), hourglass, and maxing at lv40 for the main factions but you can still do their missions and represent them. Captaincy should be included as you are still sailing. An really it’s rather depressing that rare couldn’t just see the positivity of safer seas and go “okay we need a campaign mode” and just put all the tall tales and seasonal stories into 1 mode. Then you go to the book archive in the bar or on your ship and propose a seasonal event like hungering deep or shrouded deep and those figures and events can start to generate making a campaign adventure for you and your crew. Would be easy! An with it being a campaign mode rather than seasonal, you could also re-edit the events so that it is less grindy and more epic. For example, the golden sands vs reapers event instead of getting planks and food and such. You actually arrive on golden sands and have to man the island’s cannons and shoot reaper/skeleton ships out of the water or maybe an occasional NPC reaper row boat. Oh how I wish I could be a team lead for rare and work on a project like that.
While I appreciate this I would love to see multiple crews on the safer sees. I have 6 friends that would love to play in this, but cant for whatever the reason is behind it.
the safer seas is an exellent opportunity to play SOT with my dauther soon . now she is a little young , but she loves to listen to subnautica gameplays and astronner when I play or on youtube
@@magicpyroninja To be frank, if people are up in arms because there won't be as many easy targets, then why should we care what they want? People want to play in peace, and if that means the devs do give us PvE only High Seas, that means they'll earn more $$$ from casuals.
The one or two people that are normally on the servers are gone. My server was completely empty this morning so thank you rare for making all the servers PVE servers
First of all i love the Game! But safer seas is in my opinion a good way to do tall tales on your own or with friends who don‘t want to be disturbed. I play most of the time solo and till now i don’t get in much fights against other players. But if it comes to a fight i try my best 😅Only one ship gets out 😂
Since I don't really have any friends to play Sea of Thieves with I'm kinda forced to be a solo player so this PvE mode is kinda nice since I'm not very good at combat
One thing I'm quite sad we can't do in safer seas are to get more ships even if we are in the same crew... I didn't really aimed to train PVP since I've been playing this game for unhealthy amounts of time since day 1 :X But we had a couple of ideas with friends. Just some "mini-games" we could compeed in. Ofc it would be 4 player FFA ship battle, "capture the flag" with a treasure chest which you would need to get via capturing enemy bundle of maps and so on. But the one thing we all wanted can be done! And that is a massive fishing contest. For whatever reason me and my friends enjoy fishing in that game so much, I only need couple of the rare fishes to get all the commendations for 'em. Now with safer seas it's gon' be not only easy, but fishing for hours in one spot just to get those rare fishes more than often invite enemy ships to do you harm, since you are stationary for ages.
They should honestly seperate safer seas from the rest, you'd have to make a new character and start completely from scratch, yet you get all of the things that are in safer seas, that way it doesnt give anyone an advantage in high seas and it gives the people in safer seas more reason to grind if you have to start over again, personally i wouldnt mind starting over, other people may not agree
That's the thing: there's no real advantage. The only advantage you have is experience and I wouldn't say it's fair when you're a new player put against someone who played for years. Again, there's only COSMETIC items in this game, you can't buy better guns or upgrade your ship. If you let a new player play on an old and upgraded account he would still perform bad because there's no real advantages
I think the mode is perfectly fine. Ya gold value is cut down and some of the commendations are locked but there’s no risk of losing your loot, so the rewards should be low. Just use the mode to complete any tall tales or commendations you can.
I think it would be a good idea to invite another crew into a session to practice pvp. They could still lock down the commendations that require other crews it just would be really good to have fun with more ships
Thanks for the overview! I might check out SOT again, just for safer seas. Experience some of the tales before putting it down again :p would guess a good chunk of players hopping on for safer seas will just quit once they're satisfied, rather than joining the high seas servers
Hey they said pve would never happen and let the forum administrators be as nasty about it as possible. To me pve alone is a giant eff you to those dictators.
I think it's totally fair, I am excited to try Safer Seas with friends, to my understanding it's going to be amazing for fishing or do tall tales, anything else you should go to the normal servers.
@@Newty7 I mean, all the time I suppose? It's not like they really cut anything for PvP, aside from making double gunning worse and that's about it. They clearly favor the PvP crowd, despite it being a minority and it's the PvE guys getting bad treatment. Meanwhile when I'm played this game it was literally like playing an old Souls game today. It is online for sure, but there's like two and a half people playing it
Its perfect for tall tales, (safely) grinding out trading companies, forts, and other world events. True, you lose the high risk/high reward factor, (mostly being unable to be an emissary, form alliances, and buy the special cargo crates from the merchants), but really- all anyone wants to do in SOT is climb the ranks in peace: *WITHOUT* losing *HOURS* of work- sometimes just grinding for a *SINGLE* quest (*ESPECIALLY* when youre new). Once you're a pirate legend (or at least at a level you're comfortable to go into a public game with), now you have *no* excuse for crying about the game being hard and full of toxic sweaty griefers. Give Rare a bit more time and they might *FINALLY* make the game single player friendly to the extent that you can do whatever you want without the restrictions currently in safer seas.
I think what they should have done with Safer Seas is, instead of it being just one crew on the server, allow other ships and make it co-operative PvE. That way, if a crew is having trouble with a skeleton ship or in a world event, another crew/ship could team up.
idk if there is restriction, i just want a sea safe place where I can play with my mother in peace, it's all i want, a peaceful pirate heaven, not this warzone that the sea of thieves came in higher sea.
@@BoebieBaby if you want action, just put up an athena emissary and watch what happens. doesnt matter if you got grade 1 or grade 5, they all come chasing
I think this a good mode for new players. The biggest issue in Sea of Thieves is how randomly grouping works. Yes, PVP is expected in a pirates games but the game constantly groups veterans against newbies. Newbies never stand a chance. After 3 or 4 times getting decimated in seconds most people who were trying the game most likely will never come back. It would be like trying FIFA online for the first time and the game matching you with extremely veteran players. Are you going to have fun?
the problem is that 90% of the playerbase is a veteran and 10% are newbies, the newbies will always get railed and either get better or leave, meanwhile the veterans will continue like always only complaining when they do not get enough new content.
Incorrect. Pirate Verses Non-Pirate would be expected in a Pirate game. Pirates did not attack one another, they attacked the law, they attacked the crown. They DID NOT wantonly murder anything in sight, especially not other pirates. Stop using that tired and incorrect argument.
Short answer based on my own experience is that it is entirely too restrictive. I spent almost 5 hours going to all 6 sea forts on the map solo in safer seas mode. It took me another hour and a half to unload all the loot and sell it and i only got about 35k gold(without the powder kegs that spawn there) for it. Come to find out that that is just over how much you get for hitting only 1 sea fort in high seas mode. i got fcking robbed.
I don’t require myself to fight EVERY attacking ship on the server because I know my odds as a solo but if there’s loot on board I better know how to defend it. I set 4 main responsibilities for myself on the seas: 1. Always watch the horizon 2. Always stay supplied (it’s surprising how many people sink because they didn’t load their ship) 3. Only stack on the ship what I’m not afraid to lose. 4. Getting sunk is almost always my fault. The exception is by some egregious server issue. It’s your own responsibility to read the map and the sky for any reapers or world events and you have to plan accordingly.
Even if you’re a new player I feel like safer seas just isn’t worth it the only reason I could see using safer seas is for some tall tales like the gold one ( i forgot its name)
I'm not against a safer seas mode I was just worried about the cash percentages. But part of me is worried because what got me into the game was the thrill of being the hunter or the hunted. Or dealing with creative/toxic players who kind of make you feel comfortable right before they strike. Sure its a bit toxic but for my first 2 years I was so paranoid just to join an alliance because of how people were and I still just wanted more of that or more of me attempting/succeeding of doing that.
I suck a gaming. But I enjoy gaming. I was happy when I found out you can play PVE on SoT but after this video I dont know if there is a point playing safe of seas anymore.. 😅
I stopped playing this game because of other players thrashing my boat. I suck at PVP on this game, so I just decided it's not for me. Hopped back on for the first time since 2021 or 2022. And saw something called Safer Seas. Watched this video and found out they made a mode that removed literally everything I didn't care about. All I wanted to do was explore. Now I can. 😊
So there's basically no reason to come back to Sea of Thieves I see. This is such a half assed addition with pointless restrictions, all to placate assholes and nothing more. Frankly from my experiences there is little to be gained from player interaction in Sea of Thieves unless they're your friends. Nine times out of ten it's just gonna be someone who wants to kill you and sink your ship and nothing else, which the basic enemies of the game already try to do. I understand that not everything could be put into a purely PVE mode, but the unnecessary restrictions just mean there's no reason to come back. No point in playing a game that doesn't respect a players time with insipid restrictions. It just feels like the devs punishing players for not playing their preferred game mode than anything.
Safer Sea is wonderful for new players. It's a wonderful mode to try to understand the game. After a while, hopefully, they are ready for the pvp part.
We will be introducing 2 new players on Safer Seas over the Christmas holidays, hopefully after the 2 weeks they will come & join us on the High Seas too.
To be honest I think the amount you can do in safer seas is actually pretty generous considering there’s almost no risk of your ship ever sinking. The fact you can still complete most commendations is crazy to me
It’s a good start. Adding in more friend crews would be a good next step for the safer seas. Trying to get a group of 5 or more friends into the same game is painful.
I do enjoy safer seas cause it brought some of my family to play with me. They are not pvp players so they avoided sea of thieves even though they enjoy the pve aspect. Well they just got three new players playing now. Fun goofing off with them.
The only thing they limit by limiting safer seas is what the people who want safer seas would spend like family groups, couples, parents making groups for their kids. If its not interfering with open online people should support it it will only make rare more money and have more players like conan ark and other pvp with pve server games. More money means more content for everyone
Handy to use a brig as a solo to complete tedious commendations such as merchant alliance, ive played for 5 years and still avoid these quests, be a bit quicker sailing a brig
I’m glad safer seas is very limited. It entices players to go to high seas for the real sea of thieves experience. The only downside is new players will be even more incompetent to how to defend themselves. High seas is better in terms of actually learning how to play the game and be able to defend yourself safer seas teaches how to do the bare minimum basics
Why would new players be incompetent if safer seas gives them the chance to practice fighting npc ships and enemies? If anything it will help them be more prepared
I don't see why they decreases rewards. I only play sea of thieves to have fun and earn money. But other players ruin the game for me. But they force me to play the regular PvP mode to get what I want.
Finally, they have added a mode where they turn the learning curve from a cliff to a steep hill Because you don’t learn much as a noob constantly getting killed by pros
Rare devs have indicated this mode should help families with children and those with accessibility needs, but I can't help but feel condescended to as a player in the latter group. Why do we deserve less gameplay and rewards for playing the game the way we can? They claim it's for balance, but the rewards are cosmetic and personal... balance what? How rewarded players with accessibility needs get to feel or how far we get to progress? I'm feeling rather looked down upon honestly...
"If you don't like it... I guess you just have to suck it up" Um... no? We can just not play. We have options. I personally will be playing to show the devs this gamemode is wanted, but I totally understand people who don't
When I saw Safer Seas i told my mates and we were all going to get on it. Then i watched this, and we all bailed. Nah. Way to bring players back, just to shit on them.

They dont allow captained ships so you cant grind milestones safely.
The main thing I don’t understand is why we can’t use captaincy? Just seems like an odd restriction.

Well put. The base server is already a slog if you aren't doing massive events, Safer Seas just isn't worth it.
I bet when they see how many people are wanting to play alone they will buff the payouts

@ZombieCartmanYT sorry for late response but I just think they'll make PVP people and PVE people happier if they make both of them the same, but make progresssion in factions/cosmetics separate whether you're on safer seas or normal
this update actually almost brought me back to the game, after reading the reviews and learning what the update actually consists of. yea, nevermind.
@ibigfire good, don't play the game. The rest of us don't want you all ruining the game

the reason arena died wasnt because there werent enough people on it your logic is flawed arena died because the gamemode was extremely buggy was never updated and had terrible mechanics as a pvp gamemode RESULTING in no one playing it anymore therefore it being dead a gamemode cant die because no one plays it a gamemode dying is the result of no one playing it because of how flawed it is
I think its pretty well balanced, plus its already worked for me. I had a friend come back and give SOT another try. I taught them the basics and by the end of our session he asked how he can earn more gold than the little amount we were receiving and I told him we'll play in the high seas next time! I plan on actually trying to teach him pvp, and about emissaries.

It'd be funny if most of the player count is actually on the Safer Seas and the PVP servers are mostly barren. I may just have to reinstall SoT to actually do stuff on the Safer Seas.
not with te cap on reputtion as it is, it's good for beginners and tall tales, but for world events and legend stuff you have to go to the highers seas. and for me a sea without any other people loses that spice that made the game survive until now
@@russko118 My experience is getting killed for no reason with nothing at all on board or getting sunk after an hour or two of grinding, I hate the PVP experience in SoT because it makes the PVE experience all risk and mostly no reward because the dedicated PVP players end up with all the stuff. I want to have fun with my friends, no tget called the F or N slurs by some tryhard who is a complete no-life on the game. Also, the excuse of "it's a Pirate game" is absolutely stupid because guess what Pirates didn't do IRL? That's right, they didn't go out looking for fights with _other_ pirates, they went after the merchantmen of countries like Spain, France, or the British Empire. You know what SoT mainly consists of? Pirates fighting pirates, I say that disqualifies it from being a pirate game.
You know what has better PVP than SOT? Fallout 76 because I can just _ignore_ the person picking a fight because until I fight back they're dealing only scratch damage. The only time I have had fun with the PVP in this game was when it was in the dedicated PVP mode, every other time it made me want to quit the game because I spent hours with my friends getting stuff and we lose it all. What's the point of doing the PVE when you die because the PVP players have to ruin everything for people who just want to have fun doing the PVE? All Rare needs to do is make the PVP _completely optional and with no drawbacks to punish those of us who just want to have a good time_ and then people wouldn't quit the game because of their experience getting ruined.

I feel as though doing tall tales in the higher seas feels better since having the loaming threat of other crews near by gives the feeling like being part of the lore, though safer seas seems like a step up from the maiden voyage which is good
I thought they said Sea of Thieves is one of the friendliest communities around but damn there are some vicious people in the comments. People don't want to PVP, that's honestly a fair mindset to have. That and people don't want to go for Skull and Bones for the the pirate PvE as well.
He even anchored his ship behind a rock that was a good island away, swam for about 20 minutes while I was doing some PvE and just sat there and waited. I had like one skull and he knew this.

Increase the gold percentage, add more ships to be able to be in the same server, allow guilds and captaincy and then we are good!
I commend Rare for adding this gamemode in the first place, much to the dismay of the tryhard PVP players who will sink a freshly spawned ship with no loot "BecAuSe iT'S a PiRaTe GamE aBouT sTeaLinG!"
Not only does it give those who just want to relax with a Tall Tale or grind a majority of trading company rep without issue the ability to do so, it also gives new players a somewhat "easy" mode to play and use to learn to the game without being sunk and killed upon immediately spawning in an outpost. (Which happened to me on my first day, I was camped constantly and hunted down despite the fact it was pretty obvious I was new to the game, which almost made me quit and refund it.)
That said, there are some things I take issue with and others that don't make sense at all to me.
Or mindless PVP ganking
The restrictions shouldn't be there. If people don't want to play the regular mode, that's bad design of the main mode. People shouldn't be forced into PvP.
@OnTheSeaOfMemes The name of the game doesn't change the fact that having hours worth of work ruined by some PvP sweatlord nolifer isn't enjoyable or fun.
@@Clown_the_ClownIt is a pirate online pvpve game, and safer seas are for new players and ppl who don't care about progression. Don't try to make it out any other way
@OnTheSeaOfMemes That's fine, if you enjoy PvP, great!
Honestly kinda a good idea
It's not going to do well. Out of the 20 or so players I used to play with all the time 0% of them are willing to come back for this. They don't want to play with their head on a constant swivel and they aren't willing to play this nerfed down version at all. PvPers keep acting like it would be unfair to them, but any way you slice we will never play with PvPers. They're a bunch of low moral people we would never play anything with. RIP SoT.
@@draxxzakuto5735the whole point is that it's not worth it to play safer seas long term it's supposed to be a transitional gamemode/extended tutorial to ease people into the actual game they didn't make this mode with it being a pve server in mind so dont treat it like thats what it's supposed to be. the restrictions are justified since it's a tutorial space/ safe place to play the story mode if you dont like the fact you cant grind pve mindlessly with no risk and all the reward this game isnt for you and you should just play something else the game isnt going to die you can keep crying for as long as you want but pve servers will never be a good idea and anyone with common sense knows why
@@trathanstargazer6421 SINCE YEAR ONE this games core gameplay has been pve to attract pvp encounters. the entire idea of world events are pve encounters made to attract pvp encounters. thats why when skull forts were the only world events when the game first came out everyone would come and fight for the loot it's designed that way. why do you think it's massive clouds in the sky? because it's announcing to the ENTIRE server that theres loot there to get people to fight over it.
and if you think im wrong we see this trend repeat itself over and over again, for example the fotd. it was literally created with the original skull forts effect in mind back in year one that had since died out since there was better ways to get loot.
NO ONE PLAYS SINGLE PLAYER ANYMORE CUS THEY'VE DONE EVERYTHING THERE IS TO DO. the only thing keeping minecraft alive is the online multiplayer servers. it doesnt take a 160 IQ einstein to figure all this out it just takes a little bit of rational thinking. this game needs pvp and pve TOGETHER at the same time to survive wether you like it or not and if you dont then this game isnt for you and you should move on to a different one. simple.

Right now you can currently get OOS curse, Sunken Curse, Ashen Curse, and Gold curse in Safer Seas.
One thing I'm quite sad we can't do in safer seas are to get more ships even if we are in the same crew...
I didn't really aimed to train PVP since I've been playing this game for unhealthy amounts of time since day 1 :X

Experience some of the tales before putting it down again :p
would guess a good chunk of players hopping on for safer seas will just quit once they're satisfied, rather than joining the high seas servers
They did good with this but when will they give you a place to practice pvp with your friends easier?
Never. That would cater to the tdm community and they can't have that ☹️
@@Max-prime1212real (real)
THEY HAD A PLACE LIKE THAT, IT WAS THE ARENA MODE
@NiCoNiCoNiCola we all know rare is too stubborn to bring back arena. When do they do anything good for the pvp community
It is online for sure, but there's like two and a half people playing it
Good grief...yeah i think ill just stick to server hopping to avoid reapers and do things as i always have
Its perfect for tall tales, (safely) grinding out trading companies, forts, and other world events.
Warzone in the high seas? I wish. I hardly see any other ships nevermind ones that don't run away the second you get 3 islands away from them.
@@Kezsorafor real dude I wish I could switch servers with people who say they’re a war zone lol. All I get paired with are swabbies
@@BoebieBaby if you want action, just put up an athena emissary and watch what happens. doesnt matter if you got grade 1 or grade 5, they all come chasing
@@vivekjk6729 I do enjoy flag hunting
peaceful and pirate in the same sentence bruh im crine
I set 4 main responsibilities for myself on the seas:
1. Always watch the horizon
2. Always stay supplied (it’s surprising how many people sink because they didn’t load their ship)
I'm not against a safer seas mode
I was just worried about the cash percentages.
Downloading it now though, have to try this out. :)
Safer seas is pointless just take the risk of being attacked in high seas. Sell often.
Why are Rag n Bone crates and Tomes unavailable? These are Bilge Rats items
Now I can. 😊
Thanks for sharing! Very detailed info. Looks like I'll be staying on the high seas. Amazing how much content has been added since year 1.
The fact you can still complete most commendations is crazy to me
RIP. They’re future proofing when it gets less and less uodates but they can still sell it as a single player game.
It’s a good start. Adding in more friend crews would be a good next step for the safer seas. Trying to get a group of 5 or more friends into the same game is painful.
No, just have a custom server option that one has to pay for to get. Just adding that in would probably break the game
I hope one day they let there just be a pve side. Can’t tell u how often a reaper has screwed me agter 4-5 hours
I do enjoy safer seas cause it brought some of my family to play with me. They are not pvp players so they avoided sea of thieves even though they enjoy the pve aspect. Well they just got three new players playing now. Fun goofing off with them.
the only thing i will probably use it for is for fishing, tall tales or maybe introducing someone to the game and stuff like that, its well balanced
I haven't been able to find regular shipwrecks in Safer Seas, can someone confirm if they appear ?
They do.
I looted one.
Good to know, thanks!@@Helwing.
3:46 Why Is Humpherey From Sanctuary At Golden Sands 💀
Why not?
I don't get why Pirate Legends aren't allowed to utilise Safer Seas :/ would've been nice to utilise it to complete my tall tale commendations
You can use it if you were already a pirate legend... you just can't become a new PL in a Safer Seas server
Most masterful end to a TH-cam video I’ve seen in a while.
I don't see why they decreases rewards. I only play sea of thieves to have fun and earn money. But other players ruin the game for me. But they force me to play the regular PvP mode to get what I want.
Finally, they have added a mode where they turn the learning curve from a cliff to a steep hill
Because you don’t learn much as a noob constantly getting killed by pros
Rare devs have indicated this mode should help families with children and those with accessibility needs, but I can't help but feel condescended to as a player in the latter group. Why do we deserve less gameplay and rewards for playing the game the way we can? They claim it's for balance, but the rewards are cosmetic and personal... balance what? How rewarded players with accessibility needs get to feel or how far we get to progress? I'm feeling rather looked down upon honestly...
"If you don't like it... I guess you just have to suck it up"
Um... no? We can just not play. We have options. I personally will be playing to show the devs this gamemode is wanted, but I totally understand people who don't
When safe seas dropped, me and 3 other friends jumped back into the game. That's 4 more players, as opposed to 0.
When I saw Safer Seas i told my mates and we were all going to get on it. Then i watched this, and we all bailed. Nah. Way to bring players back, just to shit on them.
