Usually, additions or modifications to existing ships look out of place, and are jarring and ugly. This, however, feels like a completely natural version of the ship. If you showed this to me before I knew about the K't'inga, this would feel equally legitimate to me. And, honestly, still does. Amazing work.
The winglet addons feel like a call-forward to similar structures on the Vor'cha-class. I like this; it kind of comes across like the KDF isn't so stagnant and traditionalist as people take them for, and are trying new things. We see a pretty logical and straight forward progression in Starfleet designs, but we're seldom graced with similar for the Klingons, so this feels extra special.
I usually don't like "dreadnought" style modifications to ships, but this one actually works really well. It all still flows right and fits the feel of the ship , while being bulkier and meaner looking than the original. Great work.
Astonishing how you are able to make an already iconic design seem fresh without going overboard. The paint work is (and really the overall build), as always, exquisit! Great video Admiral! Makes me want to get a kit going.
🖖😎👍Very cool and a very spectacular awesome build of the D'7-7 K'Tinga Class Command Cruiser and a very nicely greatly fabulously beautifully looking model indeed Sir!👌. (And p.s. I would most definitely would truly love to have a 1:650th or even a 1:1000th scale model kit of this beautiful spectacular looking Klingon Ship indeed!).
I hadn't noticed the downlight illuminating the Klingon Trifoil adorning the hangar bay doors before. That's a great detail! Inspiring work, Bill, thank you. :)
@@TychoYard I know, and this one is one of your best designs. Also, how they use your designs effects how some of us receive it. This Klingon D7-7 command ship is excellent. If Paramount/CBS used it correctly it would be an amazing ship in the proper series or film.
Absolutely stunning result! The K'tinga has always been my favourite ship in the Star Trek universe, ever since I saw TMP on its release in 1979 (I have two of these kits in the stash) . This just takes it to the next level. My big question is how did you mask all the windows and lights for painting? Also, Lou's mask set is for the standard kit - did he do a custom set for you or did you cut your own for the modified parts?
Thanks! I masked the bridge windows with Lou’s mask set - two narrow strips across the curved bow. Since the model was molded black plastic, I didn’t need to paint those areas around the windows. The lower windows needed tiny bits of tape as the plastic was very thin and here was some light leakage from within. The new neck needed custom masking and that was done easily by using Tamiya tape to mask around various raised panels a little bit at a time.
Just perfect. Like the K’Tinga’s mean older brother. Also the overall character reminds me of the later Negh’Var class which sort of ties the lineage together. I really like this format. From following your builds I notice you usually complete the entire model assembly before any of the painting and finishing work, as opposed to working in subassemblies. Do you think this is a superior method or just your preference/habit? It must take quite a bit of thought to figure out how to mask off all the various lighting elements during painting.
This is my preferred method of construction. Gluing and bodywork is a messy and dusty process so I want to make sure everything is wired and working, seams filled and the entire model primed and ready for painting at one time. The last thing I want to worry about is gluing, filing, sanding, priming and repainting a seam on a previously painted part or subassembly. This seems to me counterproductive.
i modded my Kronos 1 too, but mainly the paint job and i moved the decals around too, i've ordered another kit but it'll take ages to get here, i think my existing model is better than the normal Kronos 1............ i might make the neck wider like you've done next time........yours looks excellent.... because the existing neck looks weak when i look at mine now, it needs to be flared out to the side with 2mm thick styrene side extensions, by about 0.5 wide an inch each side... the depth looks ok though........... to be honest we need the Vorcha in 1/350, that would look fantastic.
Impressive very impressive indeed, tell me are their any plans or modification kits I could purchase to achieve this ship , I would like to apply this to my up coming KRONOS 1 😃.
@@TychoYard Ok , a one off no problems any objections to me making a copy of the K'tinga , at least I would like to try replicating your work as well as a few ideas of my own .
Very Nice. Upclose the detail is incredible. Are those addons 3D printed parts or made up of model parts. IMO the original D7 design was so radical for the time. It's so unique.
@@TychoYard Amazing. I used to build kits all the time. Haven’t built one in decades. I still sketch and doodle ships when I have some time with the hope to go back and create them one day in Blender or Cinema 4D.
It is essentially a D-7 variant with some modifications. I do not think this is worthy of a new classification other than a "Command Cruiser" - which is more likely what Starfleet categorizes it as.
So, l guess we can reclassified this as a D-8 BattleCruiser? I loved the positioning of the disruptor cannons on the top of the Narcelle wings. Imo adding 2 more cannons below on the opposite position as the top cannons would have added more bite to the ship. However, l believe this wasn't done to the possibility of the lower cannons would have interfered with the warp field between the Narcelles.
@@TychoYard Thanks for your assistance it is appreciated , I can't believe they haven't used this ship in one of the movies or series , it's a great ship indeed , keep up the good work as a subscriber I look forward to seeing your work... good luck .

Classic Matt Jeffries design. This is Star Trek essence. Absolutely beautiful this version.
Thank you!
Looks great and really feels like it bridges the gap between d7 and the vor’cha

Thanks Jeff!
An absolutely stunning upgrade/modification... Spot on!!!
Best Klingon ship I've ever seen!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Absolutely Outstanding!!!!!! You bring Great Honor to this Iconic Design!!!
I absolutely loved watching this come together through your facebook page! such a beautiful ship!
Looks so much more menacing and more durable. Amazing work as always.
I followed this build on social media, but it was still really great seeing the timeline in one place. The beauty shots at the end are amazing!
a very natural extension of the D7. Your work is exquisite.
First time viewer.
In the words of a certain Syth Lord..."Impressive, most impressive".
Seriously, I am impressed.
Thanks for sharing Bill

Nice Looking K'tinga!
In my head this work of art is canon.

WOW LIKE WOW!!!!!!!!!!! Beautiful work!!! Amazing update to an already beautifully designed ship! Bill sir you are a true artist!!!
Love this build case study. Would love to see more like this.
This turned out absolutely beautiful!
I like this design. It is superior to anything I've seen coming out of Paramount/CBS since Enterprise. Excellent work sir.
While I appreciate the compliment, I have designed ships for Paramount/ CBS.

A well awesome build looks well better than the model kit truly a stunning build. The end shots make it look so awesome.
If I was a commander of a Federation Starship I myself would definitely be afraid of that D7.

Happy Holidays Mr. Krause

Great job Bill now that is a battlecruiser. If I may say please. I like the Federation ship bridge sound effects in the background. 🙂
Absolutely beautiful. Merry Christmas 🎄 👍🏻🖖🏻
Will you be taking this to the 2024 IPMS Convention? I’d love to see it in person. An awesomely stunning work.
This was sold shortly after completion. I’ve never been to a IPMS convention. I didn’t think they had any sort of sci-fi category.
Fantastic as always Bill. 👍
Love how you documented this.
I hope you plan to do more case studies like this!
That’s the plan. Editing these videos takes a lot of time and time away from building. I’m doing as much as I can.

Stunning work, how did you manage to get the spot light on the "shuttlebay door" to shine down in a triangle effect?
Drilled a hole centered above the door and inserted a 0402 SMD.

Not a kit. All of the lighting is assembled from components with a custom programmed Arduino board.
