Ian said in his live before the movie dropped that he’s introducing a new character to the story and I’m thinking the new character is Miss Understood. I didn’t even think of this until watching your reaction and seeing what you are saying.
no i think its Mr. Insanity. Because in the movie he said "don't go insane" than it changed to "insane" and changed into "IAN" so yeah i think Mr.Insinaty is his another alter ego
I know I'm quite late to this, but yes, it is Mr Insanity. Mr Insanity is another one of his alter egos when he's in his manic high. MITO is when he's in manic low.

I think Ian is "Mr. Insanity". During the movie intro there was a part where the word "insane" flicker out of existinces and leaving only "Ian".

That’s my interpretation too as well as Mito saying don’t go insane fading to just Ian as to say stay by my side you are my god but once Ian takes his pills he’s gone. My illness is a bit different I have multiple personality disorder and once I take my pills I’m great but once I’m off I feel like I’m not me I’m someone else, best way I can describe it is postpartum depression you just don’t know who you are.

Having DID is challenging you have to accept the fact that you are not alone in your body and that you live with multiple "people" I really hope you have the support system you need :)
Okay so here we go.. this is what I think or the impression I’ve gotten as to what the narrative is or might be.. (and I’m sure I’m completely wrong lol) but I think this is basically the story of a fallen angel and the aftermath of said fall.. the only thing is that I think he gave us this narrative backwards.. in the first project he kind of just threw us into this world of meeting someone who had obviously gone through some ish and showing us how this person ended up and was clearly dealing with some demons and who had maybe became MITO because of it? And how he now was someone who was dealing with all this mental stuff and was in a sense broken. What makes me think this is in his movie his monologue in the beginning is I think the angel speaking saying “you created me in your image” just like how in certain religions it’s believed we, us humans were created in gods image and I think angels as well. So now in this project I feel like he slightly went backwards and is showing us what happens right before the fall and maybe what caused it? I think I read somewhere in an interview he might’ve done where he says this is a 3 part project so maybe the last part will be showing us who this person (angel) used to be when he was “good”? 🤷🏻♀️ I think I did read somewhere that he said for sure he did this project backwards going from dark to light instead of light to dark because real life Ian needed to work towards light and lightness instead of dark and heavy due to not wanting to be in a dark space for too long due to the depression that might cause.. anywho.. I’m sure none of this makes sense but then again I’m pretty confused myself lol 😂 regardless.. masterpiece of an album
I completely get what you're trying to say and I remember him saying the the last album of this trilogy is going to be lighter than the first two.
Definitely the BEST album of the year ! His interview on the Zach Sang Show helped to understand the music, the lyrics and Ian himself.
what drives me crazy is that aftter watching the movie, i can see it happening again like ofc a MOVIE, the thunder the rain the ocean, the growls. even with songs that have no MV, my imagination goes insane. its THAT good. even now, a few months later, i wont let this album go. it makes sense. art, id give it best picture.
I find it difficult to just play one song on the album. Every time I end up playing the whole thing back to back. I can see an entire movie playing in my head when I listen to it. ^^
Ribbon is definitely the most stand out track for me now though. Especially the outro is heavenly. Scott seriously outdid himself on that instrumental holy shet.

This album/music, the metaphors, the storyline, the paradoxes, the cinematography, production, EVERYTHING, blew my mind, as a creative person myself, I think this project is something that every artist should learn from, this is art on its pure form
Had to give you a sub! I love Ian's music, even from back when he was in a kpop group (C-CLOWN) ages ago. Ballroom Extravaganza is absolutely my favorite and I hit the replay soooo often.

I think the whole story behind Ian and mito is kinda complicated to interpret
another idea I have is that Miss Understood fell for mito and not for Ian…this makes Ian ”insane“ since he tried to kill mitos voice with the pills he took
He starts asking himself how Miss Understood could fell for mito and what she sees in him because he always saw mito as someone who isn’t a part of him, someone who wants to bother him while he tries to live a normal life
this could also mean that he will start to realise that mito is actually a part of him….mito is someone who lives inside of Ian I guess
all the theories are pretty interesting and I am excited about how the story of Mito, Ian and Miss Understood will continue
OBSESSED WITH THIS ALBUM!! ever since he drop the album i wasn't listening ANY other music, and yet i didn't get sick of it. No, it gets better and better. He literally deserves a Grammy for this. So far the best album i heared this year, and let me tell you i am picky when it comes to new music
I've been following DPR during their early days, and it's crazy to see their growth and how authentic their crafts are. I really dig how personal their projects are and they way they deliver it in an immersive story. DPR Live's "Is Anybody Out There?" album was the album of the year for me in 2020 and DPR Ian's "Moodswings In To Order" is really up there on the list for that title this year. I really felt the message and really felt connected to their story. Damn I am so proud of how far they have reached cause I've following them when they still relatively unknown T.T
if you haven’t already i recommend watching the interview ian did with zach sang. he goes into depth about mito and his orgin story and it really helps the album make even more sense!!
I just realized when he said "Set my wings on fire" it could be referring to a seraph as they are known to have 6 wings dressed in fire

I will actually attempt not to write paragraphs ( YT voice comments when?LOL). First off totally album the year for me right now and it's not even close.
Again, I did read his Rolling Stone interview after my first listen so I have some context of what he was trying to portray but I think there's still so much there that can be interpreted. Like one thing that makes it confusing yet interesting to me is the way he weaves this story involving his characters like Mito, Mr insanity, miss understood together but then in other songs/parts of songs it seems like Ian himself is directly singing about his personal experiences. This would obviously make sense since all of this is part of him but it makes me wonder is Ian himself a character within this story or is he explaining how the relationships between these characters ultimately impact him (via his moods and dealing with his disorder)? Or maybe it's parallel? Something you said in one of the songs makes me feel like he might be telling the same stories from his perspective and the characters perspectives in different songs.
Yeah I think I will be thinking about this for a long time this kind of storytelling I know it's not completely unheard of in the world of music but there's something about the way he did it that gets me emotionally and gets me thinking and like I said in the movie reaction I appreciate it so I don't want to just treat it as just good songs although they of course are but he really put everything into this so I'm doing my best to try to understand cuz this had to be agonizing to create.
Sorry I'm failing, shouldn't have got my brain racing. I have the same question when watching the movie. Is Ian a character in this or not and if he is then why is Mito coming after him is it because he knows that he's a character in Ian's mine so he could get rid of him if he didn't want to be destroyed? But then that makes Ian directly Mr Insanity who seems to be a completely different character in the movie so IDK
You're right on with where I am, it's funny. It's seeming like Mito coming after Ian (from the album) is a way to save himself/stop Ian from getting rid of him... So I assume he'd be aware that he's a character brought to life in Ian's mind. However, from the beginning where they said he was made in his image, it makes me feel like it's Ian talking to Mito directly but it's clearly some higher being or something ... IDK? Each time I think about something there's another thing that comes up and makes me think I was making no sense. I'll go read the rolling stone interview too.
@@anthonytoo Christian addressed the higher being as a ‘Creator’ (neither Ian nor Mito). Ironically this character is also Ian himself too… ha!
LOL yeah technically that would be him, that's funny. So yes, this higher being/god/creator isn't Ian or Mito but also isn't Mr. Insanity. We're thinking Ian is Mr. Insanity as well (in this story)

I'm not one watch lyrical reactions but this album is so good that it's worth looking into. I would say I'm a new fan to DPR IAN so my take on what's going on this album could be TOTALLY off. 😅
[❗Long analysis on my interpretation below and solely on lyrics❗]
I feel like this album is showing Miito and Ian fighting for the lead of the body. I say this because from "1 Shot", there is the introduction of "baby" -so a female, that seems to be interesting/noticing Ian/Miito.
In "Miss Understood", I think this track is described what kind of state Miito is in. His days "goes down to up". The pills the Miss gives is not going to change that. At the same time, these pills don't benefit him since they hurt him. She is misunderstanding the situation and getting involved in something she shouldn't (?) This could be the concern/questioning of "nobody loves her" or "somebody help her". Then, in the second verse or "dear diary", I think this is Ian's thoughts. He takes two pills which is enough to keep Miito from coming out. He doesn't want to mess up in front of the Miss. If we go along with the idea that the second "dear diary" is the Miss, then when it says "two pills work good enough" then I think this line is more of her giving words of encouragement as a supportive role for Ian to get better.
In "Avalon", I think this is where Miito is establishing a clear desire for the Miss AND to notice Miito as an individual. Miito fell for the Miss on a Sunday night, and want to go anywhere with her like Havanas or France. Miito wants the Miss to see through the trance which I think is referring to Ian. He wants the Miss to see through Ian and realize Miito is there. He wants her to ground him aka "hold me on the dance floor" and take him to her happy state - so "take me to your Avalon". This is him wanting to getting out of his routine of his day going down. As we proceed with her taking a glance at him, feeling like everlasting dream, and not wanting to wake up from this moment. These lines seems to me as Miito yearning for the Miss to see him, choose him, and all the affections she gives is for him and not Ian. Miito wants this to become reality.
For "Merry Go", I agree that this is about both Ian/Miito aren't going anywhere forward. While they both struggle in this one body, this perhaps caused the Miss to create distance between them (?) This is why they both miss those "boring nights". At the end they come to the idea of maybe they're "better off alone".
"Ribbon" is interesting. Not the most confident on my interpretation, but this could be Miito wanting a clear answer from the Miss. He is infatuated by her and feels energized with her. He wasn't to know while she's blushing if they're, Miito and Miss, are moving forward? Or will this just end with nothing.
In "Winterfall", this feels like Miito is getting tired of the situation. He wonders what went wrong, what does she want from him, to why did she even "went for" Miito. In all of this, Miito would still commit to her. By the end of track, he says "you're the only one who made me feel something". So, I think Miito is still hoping the Miss sees him within Ian. Side note: the part of "I set my wings ablaze" and " 'Cause I thought you would barely notice". I think is part is trying to say while Miito was becoming a fallen angel, Ian was showing noticeable changes. During this time, the Miss maybe noticed Ian having a hard time wanting to help Ian(?) But Miito might of seen it as the Miss wanting to help Miito not Ian.
"Calico" seems to be having Ian wanting some kind of proof/reassurance that their is something between him and the Miss. He doesn't want her alone. He wants her to reveal her feelings for him (Ian). At the same time, Ian sees that the Miss likes his bad decisions, which could be the times Miito comes out. This changes her perception on who is Ian. When we get to the line of "as we draw out goodbyes, I'll be patient with your words". Maybe Ian is waiting for some kind of comforting words. We then get "what do you want me to say". I assume this is Miito talking to Ian in his head. The following parts with the auto tuned voice saying "you took my heart ... All I wanted was you to be okay" - to me this seems like Miito saying the things Ian wants to hear from the Miss in a teasing manner.
For "Mr. Insanity", this is hard to distinguish whose point of view is. I will say that the song seems to be about Ian and Miito being over the whole situation. The Miss says "why did you shoot yourself in the food again", and I want to say Ian says "I shot myself in the food again". This must be about Ian "relapsing" aka Miito came out again. Ian feels bad he messed up. At the same time, we get lines like "I'm cornered by your delusions that I might be an angel". This could be Ian feeling the expectations that the Miss has on him. She thinks Ian can do better. "Where are your wings", her asking "where is your good nature pulling through?" Then we get "I'm Mr. Insanity" which seems more fitting for Miito to be voicing this. He's in disbelief with the Miss and taking on this role. Plus, saying "I prayed for your sanity" feels more fitting for Miito since he was an angel.
To me "Ballroom Extravaganza" is Miito accepting that the Miss is not with him. The vocabulary being is much more dynamic "world crashing down", "time running thin" and such. I think these phrases hold more impact coming from Miito. Plus, it mentioned "one step closer closer me On the ballroom extravaganza". To me this is goes back to "Avalon" where Miito wants to dance with her. Also, it sounds sounds Miito is saying they were so close into converting Avalon into a reality. "Falling through the cracks" sounds to me that Miito is something going to be forgotten easily. He'll be like a shadow passed by, never really noticed.
Last is "Sometimes I'm". Honestly this seems like Ian has accepted that Miito is there. He'll come out when he wishes. They're both believe their better off alone. They're not worth being given a minute to be spared by others, which probably has do what they took from the Miss.
My final thoughts: This is such a great album and the lyrics can be taken in various ways. I'm interested to see what other think about what story is being told. 💚💚💚

Seriously this is a no-skip album! I really enjoy Mood and Ribbon, but it's so difficult to pick a favorite bc all the songs are so good. This is definitely one of those albums I'll listen all the way through to enjoy the whole experience.

This is the first time I am listing to the album and I am glad I listened with you! I loved every song, and I felt like I was slowly been drawing me into this little but ,mighty world of his and in way we all have that don't we? I just could relate and I wanted more! I love how all these characters or personalities are given a chance to shine and tell their story no matter how dark and ugly they get. I think that is what makes it relatable. Because what we really want is for every part of us to be heard and just taken for who they are and oh my days did he not just let them be heard he let them tell their story the way they wanted! like it's them! that's why sometimes I got confused who is who/ whose perspective are we listing to now. I love the story telling through the lyrics, visuals and the sounds. And I love your interpretation of each songs, I could tell you were deep into it and I think that is what this project does. it draws you in and boom one min you are happy the next you are sad. its all mixed emotions, MOOD SWINGS! In a way you can't help but feel sorry for these characters and the person carrying them along. This is defenetly one of my favorite projects so far and I am so glad this have life and it's out there for people to immerse.

i think the part where he says "as you lay your grace down to me" is a reference to the bible or something because he's christian but that's just me. i think the majority of seraph references the story of lucifer and how he was cast down to hell for comparing himself to God (from what i remember) but that's my interpretation
