I can imagine Rip when this guy walked in and told him he was 5'9" 150lbs "I'm gonna make you press that weight over your head in a couple months. By the way, you need to be AT LEAST 220lbs"

I’m 68 years old and for the first time in my life I LOVE the gym…although most of my life I have done some sort of conditioning program, not usually weights. The last 8 months has been all weights at the gym. I don’t want my body to get any heavier but I do want to be stronger with a more lean athletic build. I will be starting the 5x5 in about 3 weeks time but depending on how it goes I will follow it for about 3 months with minimal cardio on days off. After this I will go back to my regular lifting program…which I work very hard at. 5x5 will help me improve my heavy compound lifts.
He looks in great shape. I'm 31 and trying to put on weight with Starting Strength. Sticking with the program is easy for me, but the eating is a bit of a struggle as I've never had a huge appetite. I'm sure many others feel the same.
Every night before bed I bake 2-3 large potatoes in the microwave and then refrigerate them. In the morning I grate those potatoes and fry them up in olive oil and add onions etc. it makes a good sized portion of hash browns Then I’ll either make an omelette or scrambled eggs, or a couple hamburger patties, whatever, even a bigass glass of milk or two if you don’t feel like eggs or meat. It’s often tough to get down the last several bites, but if you can finish your sets, then you can finish your plate! It’s a very substantial and cheap way to eat that will keep you going and add solid body weight. Eat during the day as normal and don’t be surprised by how much good solid weight you will add. You can also eat a large bowl of cereal before bedtime. Bill Kazmaier wrote once “I used to live out of a blender when on a gaining weight program “
@@andrewrehnert4997 Cheers for the tips people. I've been drinking lots of whole milk but since starting this all it's as though my eating has become more picky. I've admittedly only been doing this for a few weeks so maybe as I continue and weight increases my appetite will adjust 🤷 I'll keep up with the milk though and maybe add in shakes, I haven't bought these yet but they may be necessary. And thanks for the tips about the potatoes. They're definitely affordable so I should use them more. Sounds good as well.
@@sonsofbiscuits1 I wasn't a big eater, either. I did the shakes thing and it got old for me. I got an Instant Pot and began making my own meals. If you put yourself on a schedule and stick to it, break those meals up and yes, learn to make compromises between what you really want to eat, and what you need (meat/starches/everything else finds its way in) then you can do it no problem. I've gained 20 lbs in 4 months on my LP and I'll be 50 yrs old in Sept. I did put a couple inches on my waist, but I also put inches on everything else, so I feel I only improved my look at this point and feel better about myself, and I will lose the waist fat at some point when I'm ready.

I'm sure he has said it scornfully a few times here and there lol
So?
Have you ever experienced the different cultures between an Oly gym, crosscut gym, strongman, powerlifting, commercial gym etc?
