That's crazy from spending R2300 on taxis to go to work, and now spending less than R200 a month to go to work. We must protect our rail infrastructure by all means, Prasa must invests in drones and more security guards.
    Thanx for the train videos🙏

@Livinginsatv Sorry to bombard you with questions, but I was just wondering what the cost of living in Joburg is in general, i.e., food, rent, etc? I'm currently living in NZ, and it's insanely expensive here. My family and I won't to move overseas in the next year and are considering all of our options - SA being one of them

SAS, Suid Arikaanse Spoorweg, Afrikaans for South African Railways. A note of interest, If I was a planner in JHB I would put all those stations and rails through JHB CBD underground, much easier to Manage and Police, not to mention all the land that comes available for Development. Modernisation is important especially if you want Corporates to return to the CBD, but Cleanliness, Safety and accessability is very important to get them to return. Zambuck my wife is adicted to it, everything that looks like it is not right she puts Zambuck on. Even Australians is starting to use it, lol!

    • @Desert_Person

the cost of building underground rail ways is gonna be painfully expensive.

@@Desert_Person Only if they dig it by hand, LOL! The longest 82km with a diameter of +- 6m is the Oranje - Fish Tunnel that was completed in 1976 and i sth ebiggest and longest in the Southern Hemisphere, but it is only 1 on quite a few. I remember when they dug the dug the tunnel from the Fish River to the Agricultural areas of Cookhouse and the valley below, that tunnel was bug with a TBM Tunnel Boaring Machine, they called it the "Mole", I was there when the mole was sold on publick auction when the work was done. There are many fine examples of genious work done in South Africa so that we could produce food for a growing population, unknown to the public there are also hundreds of kilometers of Fuel pipes mainly from Natal to Sasolburg to transport Oil during Apartheid, the oil if I am not mistaken was pumped into resevoirs underground (Old Mine Shafts) and only ran out about 10 years ago. So the Apartheid Govenment stockpiled Oil and Fuel long before Sanctions started and was used long after 1995. If you travel from Cape Town up towards Saldanha Bay and Langebaan you will see every 10 Km or so big pipes sticking out of the ground, those were "breathers" for fuel transportation from Saldanha to Cape Town are. There were also a few of the biggest Air Forcebases (Langebaan, Ysterplaat, etc) in that area because of the strategic position of Cape Town around the Cape for Shipping, we were tasked to keep the shipping lanes free as well as be a deterant for landing forces which in all probability would have come from the West Coast because the rest of the countries Shores were pretty much a death trap to any invading force. The country has many secrets wich will be unvailed in generations to come, the country north of the Orange River is basically hollow, it has monstrously huge cavins dug out for gold, you can walk underground from Welkom in the Freestate to Gauteng withouty ever stepping into sunshine. It is th eonly country on earth who can hide all of its citizens underground for hundreds if not thousands of years if Neuclear war should braek out. Thanks to Gold and Diamonds and more lately Oil (are we the next Saudi Arabia?) we have secured not only a rich country but we sit ontop of one of th ebest natural defensive positions on earth, "underground" just ask the Americans how hard it is to fight a nation who lives underground, Afrganistan proved invinsible to the US and Russia, and the Taliban lives in cages. LOL! If some fact are missing or wrong, please advise and I will change it.

Great video. I know that they recently re-opened Ellis Park station for a rugby match - not sure when it will open permanently though. Trains work well for big stadium events - moving more people quickly than any other transport method. Overseas there are stations that only open on match days - but we need Prasa to open more stations permanently. It is a little confusing that they have a map of the northern section on a train that only operates on the southern section.

I'm impressed at the strides made PRASA but the public needs to keep the pressure on them to continue this rate of improvement. The reality is that commuter rail infrastructure in this country pales in comparison to those in similar sized economies. For the first time I actually believe that this state organ just might be capable of lifting its standards.

this is cool , the top of your web site needs a map of SA and pins on it that link to your different vids and articles in each part of the country they relate to.
The only problem is the trains were discarded and unmaintained for so long we dont know if the maintenance of the tracks and trains will keep from now and not endanger lives, they need to publish some video or keep a maintenance rosta sheet up at the stops to show the last date checks were done . I more worried about the tracks then anything , since people love to steal steel in this country and dump dangerous garbage were they please .
