3:30. Actually, there will be more heat on that apex seal due to exhaust flow in that area. That's why the seal eventually warped with Mazda Trix over time. Now, for your short term experiment, you may be good for a little while.
@williamporter7495 You're missing the point. When you add PP exhaust to the shorter Renesis apex seal, you increase the heat on the apex seal itself, with the seal now being exposed to the open exhaust port. Without the PP exhaust, it keeps that shorter apex seal cooler. Now you will releave some of the heat on the side seals, but that heat now goes to the apex seal due to PP exhaust exit. During development, the new 8C range extender in the MX-30, Mazda had a problem with the normal Renesis sized 2mm apex seals warping due to the higher heat from the increased compression ratio. Mazda had to engineer thicker 2.5mm seals to fix the problem. Keep in mind that the 8C doesn't even have PP exhaust.
The side seal jig in the drill press is just mind blowing. It looks like the secret is you have to use a rotar tip of the type your building and the abrasive drum has to fit the corner pocket as closely as is practical to get the right end profile.
Looking forward to the results. I'm going to be building 2 RX8 engines. One of them will be hybrid, but I'm going to machine the rotors for RX7 apex seals. My question with the hybrid builds is is it worth it? The problem with the Renesis seems to be that the performance ceiling is low at about 400-450hp through forced induction which then severely reduces the reliability. If a hybrid motor can increase the performance and reliability ceiling then it would be worthwhile but if all a hybrid motor does is increase complexity without any gains what's the point? Assuming it can be done, why bother? That's the question that needs to be answered I think.

Nobody who knows what they are talking about are saying that the engine won't work. There are NA hybrid builds with dyno graphs out there and they don't get any more power than a fresh stock engine. If you go turbo it will still be just simply worse than a REW motor swap for the same reasons above. Hybrids have no low end torque and you don't get any usable power until you get past like 5500 rpm. I can't wait for you to get to the same conclusion that everyone else does when the engine is running (because it will run, just not how you think). Everytime someone does a hybrid they post a video it running. Then it either disappears from the internet, or they switch to an REW, and there is a good reason for that.

It's simply just not going to magically give you any more horsepower than a good stock renesis engine, and then you lose all driveability because the exhaust port adds a ton of overlap, which the renesis is not designed for.
Then it either disappears from the internet, or they switch to an REW, and there is a good reason for that.
my dad has been building chevy 350s since he was in diapers. and he says the rotary hybrid won't work
Hello. I got one for more than year hybrid five port exhaust for Bridgeport with the stock Ecu.
