Always amazed at what you find in radios. Especially the ones that have been near a truck stop.

Nice video. Tell me, what should the dead-key RF output wattage be? You mentioned that this one is pretty high. Thanks!

4 watt dead key is normal and legal limit.

Why would some hack eliminate squelch control? I don’t understand the benefits of that.

I know its not the same thing but its the same principle.I ve hot an old 27mhz rc radio transmitter which has 27mhz signal on the antenna but it does nt transmit anything , the segvos just jiggle,i ve checked with a scope the carrier is there also the ppm signal is present but it wont modulate.

Interesting video. Some food for thought, and I'm certainly not trying to pick on you at all! Your signal tracing is using a signal injector. It emits a tone, probably 1 khz. Technically you didn't need to say audio. Just key the microphone and listen for the tone. Additionally I wouldn't mount the echo board near the rf power section. Leaving the echo board where it was originally mounted and cutting the echo board wires to the needed length may have been a better idea but that's all up to you. I'm just offering a different prospective. It's clear you enjoy working on CB's. It can be challenging and rewarding. My signal injector looks exactly like yours except mine is an old Radio Shack unit I picked up in a package deal from Smokey's CB shop in North Grosvenordale Connecticut. I bought all of his equipment many years ago when he retired. You're accent sounds like you're from Southern New England. :-)

This signal tracer does not inject a tone. It's demodulating the audio, so I do need to say audio. Also, how can I hear where I'm losing modulation if I don't talk into the mic ? You can actually watch Mike on Mike's Radio Repair youtube channel do it the same way.
