Stereo talk back? 🧐 Great save on another crashed connex. Had a radio on my bench about 7 years ago. Driver had the squelch all the way down, listening to a distant transmission, when the radio, still with power, went silent. Told him to shut it off, take it out and bring it to me. Antenna wire had separated from the circuit board. I suspected that was the issue, so did not run a pre-analization test on it. You can only go by what information is supplied to you by the owner. Respects going out again, Matt. 73. I'm smilin' and off the key.
Yep anyone who has been around radios for a while knows how that goes. The darn nut on the so239 comes loose then you go to tighten or take off your coax and off comes the ant wire. Thanks for watching and sharing your story. 73 👋
@@TheRadioGarage Not on the road today. Yard work is done. Sitting here on the Base Station. Bare footin' horizon to horizon, all points of the compass. Must have done something right with the setup! 😅 Hang in there Matt. Your doing an awesome job. Appreciate your replies. 73.
I unknowingly plugged a mildly shorted speaker into my 955 Stryker and ran it half a day before I smelled burned electric. Now I seem to have lost at least half of my talk back power. The smell came from the speaker jack area and up front near the knobs with the cas off. Do you have any ideas on this? The schematic shows 2 resistors near the onboard speaker plug. Only one is present. There's no trace of one being in the empty spot though.
Hey Matt. I bet you had crazy high dead key power and couldn't adjust the output power when the voltage regulator was shorted out. ? That's always a good one. I think you hit it right on the head with the broken antenna wire Blowing the finals . Another great fix. Be safe buddy 73s
Actually there were no signs that the regulator went out until after I replaced the finals and still had no output. So one took out the other it seems. Sad thing is he only got to use the for like 2 months before it self destructed. Thanks for stopping by 73!
Lol that's quite odd then. Usually you get a massive carrier that won't adjust . It's always dodgy when finals blow and regulators short out as PCB tracks can evaporate 😭 . The customer was lucky 🤣. Be safe bro. 73s.
The talkback relay is to separate it from the audio circuit. The argument is that it is much more clear, isn’t susceptible to RF interference nor does it draw power from your audio regulator/ic. I’ve never installed one. Good job. Keep it up. Did they drop in a diode - resistor combo by the Hi Power pot? R213 or something like that that?
Yea I guess I mispoke, I know why they do relay and the theory behind it, just doesn't make sense to me though as I don't hear any improvement in talkback when hearing the talkback audio from a radio with this mod. Oh well to each thier own. Thanks for stopping by , always like to hear from others who work on radios. 73
@@TheRadioGarage I think I remember you mentioning doing a talkback mod to it. I always drop in a 4.7k that really cleans it up. Stock talkback is yucky. But yeah, the relay talkback isn’t any more clear than the other mod. Kind of silly.
How can I get ahold of this guy and get a few radios sent to him ? I have a little CB shop and have done a lot of my own work for years and have helped out a lot of my buddies, but every once and a while I get stumped and could use some help
I have a problem with my 3300hp, I can receive and transmit but sometimes they cannot hear me, but they do see the needle moving they just can’t hear me. So I smack it and then they can hear me again. What could it be?

I have a cobra xl with intermittent tx and rec. sometimes it works perfect. Sometimes it’s dead. Can you fix it for me if I ship to u?
No limiter removal is called snipper mod 😱

Sounds like bad solder joints or loose connection somewhere.
Where are you located?
