The 7 seater is just like the Tiguan Allspace (I own one) - its for kids only. We have been out to a local restaurant with 2 other couples (neighbours), so 6 of us - one adult in the 3rd row (me) sat side ways - I wouldn't want to sit there for more than a fews miles - its also claustrophobic as well. We have owned VW's for the last 30yrs (mainly Golfs & Passats) and the 2 reasons I bought the Tiguan is now that I've retired is its higher so you just slide in (no bending down) and I do woodwork, so can just about fit 3m lengths of wood in it without having to use roof bars. The last thing is, we do at least one touring holiday in Europe (from the UK) per year with the daughter & granddaughter, so 4 of us with enough space for luggage (deep boot) with no need for a roof box. I think I'll stick with the Allspace as I think this will be priced over 40K, which will restrict sales in the UK (additional tax band).
I like the colour! More purple cars, please, manufacturers! There's a bloke in my neighbourhood who drives an ancient 2012 i-MiEV that's painted purple. Struggling and sweating up the hill on my pedal bike...I can but look up in envy. A purple EV! Yes, please! This vehicle would be nice on the US mainland. The sheer driving range of a diesel car would be lovely on some monster-sized road trips. Back in my days on the US mainland (my version of "old man noises"), even though my Honda CRX could easily go 500 miles on less than 9 US gallons of fuel, I still wondered what driving a diesel Mercedes with their 700+ miles of range would be like. These VW variants on the CUV/SUV theme really allow a customer to split hairs in terms of buying just EXACTLY the right amount of cargo and passenger space. There is so much choice! However...the purple colour of THIS variant makes it a winner for me.
VW isnt a brand that really grabs my attention. They have a few I notice but not actually believe I may ever own one. This color is beautiful! Very exciting that it has a 7 seat option though for family’s of a big size like mine. Great review Sir Pete
Well done for not mentioning Skoda Kodiaq because that's exactly what it is. Did VW specifically ask you not to mention the K word? As a Mk1 Kodiaq owner, I'm more attracted to this VW than the new Mk2 Kodiaq. As PHEV version only being 5 seats, can't help thinking why spend more money on this when the PHEV Tiguan does the same thing albeit with marginally less boot room?
Love that this is NOT a pure EV.... I think this will do really well. VW do make some great cars.. Really looking forward to you giving it a run on the road.. 👍

Bingo! If VW did that, I'd buy one. I've always wanted a Golf R, but at 6'4, its just too small. The made a Tiguan R in its last generation but it never came to North America., only the Golf R. Funny too, since the Tiguan was their best selling car here.

Interesting review. Like other retailers who offer numerous variants of basically the same product, along with other members of the same group, read Skoda, Seat, Audi or Lever various brands of washing powder, what is the point of having so many variants like the Tiguan, Tayron, Tuareg? Surely the ones in the middle detract from each others sales? To me it smacks of lack of imagination and 'it seemed like a good idea at the time' thought process? If you want a bigger car with 7 seats, why not just go for the bigger variant. I think the part about the 3rd row of seats demonstrates this perfectly, although you maybe made that a little bit over the top? as a 6' plus person, you would never sit in the 3rd row so why even try?? Unless of course you wanted to look silly? It seems to me, the number of variants that could be offered are endless. Will it end up with companies basically accepting orders for any size car based on customer requirements? Anywhoo, last thought, why do so so many TH-camrs start their videos with the 'Lets get into it' link to the main video. It's so unoriginal. Come on be imaginative and think of your own link?
The wheel arches do look like they were inspired by Bozo The Clown's eyebrows. Cool colour though - nice to see something which isn't another variant of fog or smog.
They had them before. Funny thing with VW, they have tendency to remover some of their best and unique features that people like and appreciate. As for the logo, as long as you have the ability to turn it off should owners not want the gimmick, I have no issues with it.
Have VW dropped the Tiguan all space which was pretty much a Kodiaq in a party dress? In fact is the Tayron not the Kodiaq Mk2 in disguise? Looks lovely but give this a couple of years and the tech will be on the newest Seats and Skodasand at a cheaper price tag!
Now if you live in Canada and wear gloves one third of the year, to adjust the temperature you’re supposed to finger bang the television they’ve glued to the dash?? Nonsense. Three turn dials please.
Those squqred wheel arches make the wheels look stupidly small even at 20 inch. Will be double the price of the Dacia Bigster you presented and does not even match the styling of that car in my opinion. Designers did not do their best!
This car is the Tiguan for North America. However, the light in the rear look gimmicky. VW should stick to basic shapes such as squares, rectangles or circles. The 20" wheels are OK, but nothing head turning. They don't look sporty at all. Even on the R-Line As for the interior. First, the steering wheel looks dated and cheap (they should have upgraded that entirely) Second, the ambient light cover material can be reflective at times and angles. Third, I wish they covered the center console completely so any valuables are kept out of sight. Finally, the 3rd row is for small children, not adults unless they're tiny people. On the positive side, I do love the light interior and the seats. Now all they need is to add in the true R engine from the Golf R to join the rest of the line. Then VW will offer something special that no other carmaker offers. Otherwise, they will have some stiff competition from the new updated RAV4, Hyundai Tuscon and the Mazda CX 50, which has a more upscale and premium interior.
VW needs to make cars for normal people , lpg - cng still best option and cheaper than anything else why the car of people doesn’t have engines that run cheap for everyone?

No, unless you hate the people you're putting in the back. That's a joke. it's not a good emergency seat at all!
The Tayron is bigger, but the XC60 is more upscale.
Putting the charge cable under the floor in the boot area ensures that it will never be used! Yet more head in the sand poor design.
You rarely need it. My charge point at home has a cable and so do a lot of public chargers. I’m all the time running EVs I’ve yet to use one 🤷♂️
@@PetrolPed I have found that the majority of lower powered public charge points do not have tethered leads, being a hybrid I guess this VW does not take CCS rapid charging. To me putting the cable under the clutter in the boot is poor design when other car makers have better solutions. It will be intersting to see what happens when a full BEV model is released..
There is hope NO EV! 🎉
That’s what VW ID is for 🤷♂️
You sound a bit under the weather Pete… look after yourself
🥰
Tayron? Really? Next there'll be a VW Crayon.
It was a Chinese market only model.
Oh good another bland blob🙄 at least try to style the car you are designing, but it is a VW the kings of boring blandness so 🤷♂️
Another big lump that's too big for our roads and boring!
Horrid. Make it go away.
Good review, don't like it typical VW bland styling, looks cheep inside and out, to expensive against better competion, no wonder VW about to go tits up?
Looks tidy Ped!
For a minute I thought it was another variant of the Dacia Bigster, oh no - just another SUV 🥱
Is this really what the public want, I know it’s what we are being sold, but that’s a different thing!
Interesting no prices were available, so they’re going to be expensive, and what is the point of the 7 seat option, I’m sure even Petrol Pooch and Petrol Pup wouldn’t want to sit in those seats 🤣
I try to see the positives in all reviews, but this car does nothing for me ☹️
