You are truly AMAZING! Appreciate the video with you taking us to such a beautiful place to hear you play such a beautiful angelic instrument. I could only dream to play as wonderful as you on my Maui xaphoon I purchased . If only you did private lessons .
You are hilarious Steven! Play away and teach me how to play this Xaphoon! I just bought it! I had to, after hearing it played, giving off that amazing saxophone tone everyone loves! So, at almost 60, this is probably the 1st thing I've tried to learn to play in 30yrs! I know I can, and I know I will one day surprise my family and play Amazing Grace too! The last time I learned to play that song on a new instrument was the pan flute. I haven't played it some time, but I'm getting back into my groove! BTW, that was absolutely AWESOME STEVEN!! As Rob Goodson commented below, it almost moved me to tears too! It was my Mother's favorite song that I played on the Pan for her! May she rest in peace!
If you listen at approx the 2:06 mark, a passing car adds perfectly to the pause in your notes! Pretty cool stuff! Don't leave that place! Sell tickets for shows! hahaha!!
@@NoSoup4U2 hahaha! Thank you so much for your enthusiasm, it means a lot to me!! Did you buy the Xaphoon because of my video? Yeah, the car passing by, I hired a taxi diver to do this :-) I wish you all the best with learning to play the Xaphoon, it took me several weeks before I could play clear notes, but it's really worth it, just practice and you'll get there!

thank you so much for your kind words! To be honest, I can play a couple tunes on the Xaphoon & I love to improvise, I don't consider myself a pro on the Xaphoon, more like an enthusiast. But yes, definitively, natural acoustics of some places can be really amazing. Here is another Xaphoon tune I recorded years ago in an deep underground cave in Mexico: th-cam.com/video/Cu5jsvKjtXg/w-d-xo.html
Yep, that was pretty cool. I have been checking so many Xaphoons and couldn't take a decision on which one to buy and that song convinced me to go for the Xaphoon, definitely! Amazing performance and acoustic. Thank you! =)
@@bjornmundt5801hello! What exactly are you referring to? Is your question about finding the best flute? If yes, I suggest trying them out, live, in a shop. If no - please help me understand what your question is :-)
Dear Steven, I can confirm xaphoon is really an amzing instrument. I have bought it not so far ago and it came to me from China. There are also clever people that can do similar cool sax from PCV (also the reed can make from PCV) and that is amazing also :). Fantastic improvization I see You like it good luck.
@@StevenVrancken I mean you are one of very few talented people who can actually play it with very good merit and this is because the Xaphoon has a very sensitive disposition only understood by the most devout of its practitioners. Thank you for the performance.
@@StevenVrancken Gladly! My idea is to sample it and add a bunch of ambiances for a song on a really political record I'm cooking up since it sounds like such an arid and almost melancholy rendition of Amazing Grace. I feel like this would sound fantastic as a transition track to let the listener cool down after one of the more intense tracks on the album to add more dynamics to the record as a whole and give a spot to breathe. Again, fantastic work by the way!
@@owendubs, thanks for getting back to me! I'm curious, a couple questions more :-) will you release it as an independent musician? What is the name of your music project? Or are you signed? Can I already listen to some of your previous creations? Thanks!

Hello, Steven. This is Brian Wittman. I made the xaphoon that you are playing. Wow, very beautiful!! This is exactly what I imagine for people to do with xaphoons. Thank You!!
Hey Brian! i just watched your "Xaphoon All-Star" video and am now chasing up buying myself a Xaphoon, I hope playing the tenor sax will correlate to some skill with the Xaphoon. do you recommend any particular type of Xaphoon?
From my experiences playing tenor sax, i would think it is similar to forcing the octave up (or down) on a full sized saxophone, its not too difficult if you are forcing it for the purpose of alternate fingering (avoiding the octave key) but if it is like the altissimo octaves it could prove to be very difficult
This is absolutely NOT TRUE. I have added ZERO effect or reverb or sustain. These are 100% natural acoustics. Contact me in a private message on Facebook, and I'll send you the address of this garage which is located in Portugal, in Foz do Arelho, so you can experience this for yourself. Or sent someone to check it out. Are you open that you are wrong in your assessment?
confusing a place with loud reverberating echoes for acoustics is one of the most common mistakes many people make. If a place is acoustically balanced, there is no echo. The echo in this garage is NOT an acoustically favorable place for music, simply because the echo creates discord, disharmony and disrupts the music being played. It might work in some choral arrangements and acapella arrangements, but not here. The echo is too loud and distorting. This is NOT acoustics, nor is acoustically balanced.
I hear you, I understand you don't like the acoustic of this garage. For you, it is not acoustically favorable. I respect your preference, of course. For me, it is, as well as for many other people commenting on this video. I love this garage, and it's acoustic a lot! Have a great day!
That garage sound fits perfectly with the xaphoon!
That was simply amazing. I was almost moved to tears. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for listening in, I appreciate! Love this instrument... and the tune.
As i see looks like a recorder.. 2 octaves.. also the same notes.. just different sound flute vs sax/clarinete
It's like I'm in a different world. Thanks man!
Heck yeah! I would have gone down to the garage and done the exact same thing. That's so fun!
:-) thanks!
Hi Steven, This is absolutely amazing on every level. The performance, choices, and soundscape are celestial. Brilliant.

Yes! The garage is located in Foz de figueira in Portugal, it's not public but private.
Hmm, guess I'll have a lot of doors to pick. Anyway, nice video!
Are you a musician as well? Are you looking to record there something as well?
Hi! Can you tell me how many octaves has this instrument?
Personally I only play one octave, but there are techniques you can use to play two octaves, as I believe
personally, I only play one octave, but I think more experienced players can play at least two (I think)

It has a two octave range
What key is the xaphoon?? C? Or Bb?
This one is in C, though I play it somewhat loose :-)
Both versions are available for bamboo. C only for ABS plastic
Didn't work.
