You cannot compare this shit to a violin or a voice, which aren't harmonic, but truly express something. This thing, the handpan, gives you the illusion of depth.

And that's it now for me. I have always had a sound, a very particular sound, that I love. Whenever I hear it I'm happy. It's got this drony, tinny, metallic quality that is like a gong or a distant deep bell ring. Every so often I'd find a song that has an element of that sound but it was always buried in the song, never featured or at least very rarely featured. And now this instrument comes along and it IS the sound I've always loved. And I'm just sitting here thinking, "Holy crap! I finally found it!" Thank you so much for putting this out here!

Sam Maher is the best handpan player I've ever heard and this is his masterpiece. Not only is his performance world class with speed and dexterity unrivaled, but his composition / improvisation skills are revealed in this complex and uplifting piece.

Arguing over youtube comments is generally pretty pointless, you are entitled to your opinion and disagreeing with mine. I do like to share other great artists on the handpan since it is still a lesser known instruments and the very good players are not as well known. I only want more people to know about good players. Other great handpan artists include David Charrier, Kabecao, Sylvain Paisler, Malte Marten, Peter Levitov to name a few.

In my opinion this instrument has the most entrancing sound. It reaches into a peaceful part of my life and helps me relax. It’s not only ethereal but it’s also, bringing the listener into a presence of their own.
I'm from germany and in this summer i made a holiday trip to the south of germany, to bavaria. The weather was great and we enjoyed cristal clear lakes between big mountains. On one of these lakes i heard a beautiful music that reminded me a bit on tropical house. But it was a long haired guy playing a handpan like this. I was just beautiful and i fell in love with it. Before that i always loved the steel drums of the carribean music, but this is just wonderful!
My best friend and I were living together when this video was posted. We thought it was one of the coolest things we’d ever seen and had it playing in the background whenever we worked on something or just relaxed on the balcony. He passed last year and this definitely brings back good memories.

I first commented on this video five years ago. Here i am up at 2:30 am and i noticed that he uploaded new music on his channel after many years. I'm glad to see that he is still playing. I loved this video and fell in love with the sound of this instrument years ago. 2017-2019? Was probably around the time i found this video and now it's jan 1, 2023. I was such a different person back then when i first heard this. It still resonates in my soul today. He is still a very talented hand pan player! ❤
I remember my music teacher playing us this masterpiece while working on handmade instrument. I enjoyed every moment of listening to that and I can't stop listening to it. 7 years later still coming back to this when i need to relax... one of the best handpan melodies out there and the fact that they were able to get 5 minutes of complete emptiness in a ny subway really adds to the energy to the whole thing. acoustics were on point and the subway pulling up as he was just about to finish up was crazy timing lol THIS ONE WAS IT GUYS. It all depends on how much surface area your using to hit it, how hard you’re hitting it, where you’re hitting it, how you hit it, and other things like tapping, movement there’s a lot of things to account when playing this.

I'm a musician and I play a CAISA. For me personally, Sam Maher is the world's best HANG - PAN player. His interplay of melody and rhythm is absolutely perfect, unique, simply brilliant. Sam makes the HANG game what music should be at its core - a deep resonance that enchants the heart, soul and senses. Certainly Sam is a natural - talent, but it takes a lot of hard work to reach this level of the game. I have the deepest respect for that. So my dream is to be able to experience Sam in a live concert. Thank you Sam! It's great that you're there! 🙏
what's even better about the hand pan is you can know virtually nothing about music and still play it, its simply a forgiving instrument, thats its strongest perk, its simply a beautiful instrument with a low learning curve (not saying there isnt one, it takes a while to get this good) but for beginners, it encourages that kind of "try this pattern, and now hit them with some of This pattern" ya that sounds good, now lets add some taps!

It's such a beautiful instrument. I've been playing guitar, acoustic and electric bass for years, but I have stopped playing altogether since I have moved in to the UK. First and last time I ever played with a Spanish bloke on the handpan, my friend on the violin and myself on the classic guitar, I said' let's jam with Set the Controls in D major' by Pink Floyd. Well, people were saying that was the best version they ever listened to! It was amazing. The handpan just fits right into our version. Spiritual indeed! 🤗🙏

I found it after seeing a vid about animals reactive to music -- this dude was playing a handpan for marsupials and I needed to know what it was, found it in the comments. Many wonderful sleepless hours later, this amazing man!!

Without having ever seen this, if someone pointed to a crowd of people and told me to guess which guy played the hand pan I would guess this guy without question.
Hats off to you sir! I'm not the type of person that usually replies to TH-cam videos but yet here I am. This is just amazing. Out of the world! I'm really flabbergasted. I don't think I've heard anything like this before. Discovered the handpan instrument today through another musician Malte Marten who makes much more calm and soothing songs and was looking for other people playing the instrument. Thanks for this!

It all depends on how much surface area your using to hit it, how hard you’re hitting it, where you’re hitting it, how you hit it, and other things like tapping, movement there’s a lot of things to account when playing this.

I'm a musician and I play a CAISA. For me personally, Sam Maher is the world's best HANG - PAN player. His interplay of melody and rhythm is absolutely perfect, unique, simply brilliant. Sam makes the HANG game what music should be at its core - a deep resonance that enchants the heart, soul and senses. Certainly Sam is a natural - talent, but it takes a lot of hard work to reach this level of the game. I have the deepest respect for that. So my dream is to be able to experience Sam in a live concert. Thank you Sam! It's great that you're there! 🙏
what's even better about the hand pan is you can know virtually nothing about music and still play it, its simply a forgiving instrument, thats its strongest perk, its simply a beautiful instrument with a low learning curve (not saying there isnt one, it takes a while to get this good) but for beginners, it encourages that kind of "try this pattern, and now hit them with some of This pattern" ya that sounds good, now lets add some taps!

It's such a beautiful instrument. I've been playing guitar, acoustic and electric bass for years, but I have stopped playing altogether since I have moved in to the UK. First and last time I ever played with a Spanish bloke on the handpan, my friend on the violin and myself on the classic guitar, I said' let's jam with Set the Controls in D major' by Pink Floyd. Well, people were saying that was the best version they ever listened to! It was amazing. The handpan just fits right into our version. Spiritual indeed! 🤗🙏
