You were 1.4km away with about 5-700m of altitude advantage. That is close enough that you will be within gun range long enough that any P-51 player will have to take some evasive action. That said the airfield with the AAA was not that far ahead of the both of you and if someone flying the P-51 in that position evades well enough they can make it to the cover of the AAA. That is what many players would have been going for in that position. Thus in that aspect you are completely right to be concerned. Given that there were still players left on either team and playing it conservative is even more understandable. Given a lack of knowledge of the situation of the game it would be completely unfair for anyone but Defyn to really criticize you for your decision. As for the actual fight with Defyn? If you are going to keep using that technique rather than rolling all the way over to pull up into a loop start pulling before you get past 45 degrees of roll while rolling from inverted and transition into a climbing spiral instead. It still isn't exactly ideal* but it gives far less position to an opponent than rolling inverted, pulling to evade a shot and then rolling back over to pull up into a loop. * Basically don't be inverted at the merge unless you want to pull down because otherwise you are just giving some position as you roll so you can transition into another direction. Planes with faster roll rates can mitigate this to some degree but it is impossible to fully eliminate it. Better roll rate or not rolling past 90 before pulling into a turn is pretty much committing the cardinal sin of reversing your turn in a dogfight and that always gives a lot of position to your opponent.

at 15:15 you close the radiator. I don't know if its modeled in war thunder, but in real life the radiator on p51 produces some thrust through the merideth effect.
It is indeed modeled in WT, just like radiator flaps drag in most planes. However it's really weak, only really noticeable at higher altitudes. Actually if you leave the engine controls in automatic mode, the radiator will stay open if you go higher

@@christopherchartier3017 D20 saw major service tho. Hell even the D25 saw decent action in the pacific and racked up a few kills. D30 never made the war though. Also it had M3 guns instead of the M2s that we get in game so it was essentially a prop driven sabre. Absolute beast of a plane
@@christopherchartier3017 First off, I agree, tho also it isn't so much that the D5 is plain. Its just that the game doesn't model mustangs correctly. They're missing almost 300 HP from their engines (except for the D30) and the in game physics in general leave a lot to be desired. Speaking from a combination of real flight experience as well as flying the Mustang in many different games and sims, DCS has an incredibly well modelled P51. It's a late war D25 but the performance on all stangs was basically the same across the merlin versions. Point being... the main advantage of the mustang in a pure dogfight was its stamina in turns. (Yes, it should be able to dogfight, and really well at that.) And due to warthunder being mouse aim, plus the physics being whack, the P51 and many other birds don't live up to the reality of their performance.

Depends on the situation but the f8f1 is undertiered Best bet it to get into a dogfight with it and abuse the fact it loses speed quite fast Dont go too vertical tho because then his engine power takes over i reckon Its not an easy fight for the F4
This video shows honestly just how bad takeoff starts are for american planes. Mixed with the excessive minimum fuel load, the P-51D-30, and most for the P-51D's at large, don't really even have a chance in the game's meta without being carried by somebody. The same goes with several other U.S. aircraft too, like the early Corsairs. The P-47D-28 can make do, but the P-47N, P-47D-25 and D-22 are going to have a shit load of trouble when faced with aircraft like the Bf-109 or J2M series or Yaks unless they get to around 5500 meters where that engine power and long wingspan can get to work. My proposed solution is to remove takeoffs altogether. Everyone gets air spawn like Air arcade, altitude spawn of each aircraft is adjusted via climb performance. Or even if everyone has a similar spawn altitude, it can reduce the effectiveness of certain aircraft's climb rate to go to space and zoom down on everyone as they now have the slower climbing planes spawning at the same altitude and speed they're at.

The P-51D30 was so much more fun before they nerfed the rudder like 5 years ago. The thing just slips around while you're trying to aim and 50 cals need some time on target so it's just kinda annoying when you get to the whole shooting part of the game.

that aggressor camo rocks on the P-51. I have a question though, I was once in a long carry without having landed after twenty minutes and found the plane to be quite sluggish. Engine didn't cook, all MEC and the WEP still seemingly activated. I still won the match after setting an a7m2 on fire. Does this plane lose power after certain time using WEP despite keeping it?
@@kingghidorah8106 if you use MEC, like you said you did. Then your engine should pretty much never overheat since even with WEP it doesn't even reach the yellow range. There is no other way to manage it better as it's a really easy engine to handle.
Have you ever thought about commentating War Thunder esports tournaments? You have very good play by play analysis, if that's something they have opportunities for I think it'd be cool seeing you commentate if you liked it
The only Axis plane I'm afraid of when flying my P51D30 is the Ta152. Fortunately it's not something that the D30 faces often, and even when it does they're likely to be noob pilots just grinding their way to jets.

Better without the gunpods for the P38. It ruins the performance. Climb high, keep up speed. DEFYN's videos will show you how to fly it, but it definitely does not need the gunpods.

You can climb at 290 kph IAS in almost every prop. Its what i do anyways
Some are slower and some are faster but 290 is always solid
You can climb at 290 kph IAS in almost every prop. Its what i do anyways
Some are slower and some are faster but 290 is always solid

P51D-30 is one of my favorite props to play. It just feels great in its own BR and having the power really helps dictate fights. Then of course you evolve into a larger menace the P51H-5 lol

Isn't it true that shutting your water radiator does absolutely nothing for your drag as the P-51s are modelled? I saw you do it at 15:15 for airspeed.

that aggressor camo rocks on the P-51. I have a question though, I was once in a long carry without having landed after twenty minutes and found the plane to be quite sluggish. Engine didn't cook, all MEC and the WEP still seemingly activated. I still won the match after setting an a7m2 on fire. Does this plane lose power after certain time using WEP despite keeping it?
It should actually become lighter. From my experience it feels better later in the game than earlier.
@@ushikiii i mean after weping all match 💀 of course if you manage your engine BETTER it will feel lighter
@@kingghidorah8106 if you use MEC, like you said you did. Then your engine should pretty much never overheat since even with WEP it doesn't even reach the yellow range. There is no other way to manage it better as it's a really easy engine to handle.

The only Axis plane I'm afraid of when flying my P51D30 is the Ta152. Fortunately it's not something that the D30 faces often, and even when it does they're likely to be noob pilots just grinding their way to jets.

Better without the gunpods for the P38. It ruins the performance. Climb high, keep up speed. DEFYN's videos will show you how to fly it, but it definitely does not need the gunpods.
