Thanks for this Jake - you've actually hit upon a long-standing form issue that I've had where my bow arm would collapse inwards after the shot, and I'm surprised at how little information I could find about this specific issue and the effect on target was arrows flying markedly left (as a left-handed shooter).
Excellent explanation and great coaching. I believe it is very useful not just for beginners or returning back to archery after a long break (in my case more than 15 years), but it's also useful for advanced archers as a reminder and check point guide. Thanks.
I've been teaching sports my whole life and just wanted to say you are amazing at what you do, your knowledge of the subject in beyond belief and the whole presentation is just perfect. thank you, thank you, thank you!
Hey, Jake - appreciate your coaching/insights, my brotha! Buffalonian (Grand Island) here as well - bought my barebow quite a few years back with intent to “get good” with it, but didn’t afford myself enough time ‘til now, and I’m plinking away at 15 yards in the backyard. These tips are super helpful. I’ve been missing high left (shoot righty) - gonna dial that in with these tips. Have a good one, my good man - and give a shout if you’re passing through GI - I owe ya a beverage.
Returning back after a decade and noticed that my groups are often less than 3 fingers wide at 30m (building up to 70m slowly) BUT, with 9 arrow ends, i get them moving horizontally across the target from right, middle, left, with each set of 3 arrows tightly grouped smaller than the X ring. It's very annoying to figure this all out again, but this video is really helpful to remind me about what to look out for!
Thank you Jake for this video. Excellent explanation of why my arrows sometimes go up or down, right or left. This is a must-see video when analyzing one's shots. Combined with a camera and a tripod pointed at me, I should be able to do a better analysis of my shots.
Really appreciate this video! Many thanks from Montana newbie. I’m training through 15-20 degree temps. Shooting daily, but kind of suffering through it.
Jake, I know you are shooting barebow but you have much experience with the clicker. Maybe you can do a video on mastering the clicker. Some issues, it clicks before the sight is in the gold, never clicks and one lets down and too much muscular tension when it goes off.
Another excellent video Jake! Since you've shot millions and billions of arrows with the clicker I'd bet your expansion with the barebow is very consistent. I've only shot traditional and now barebow; any advice on barebow expansion control? I find arrows going high if I expand too much and "juice" the arrow. I fixed the low shots from creep/lack of expanding with a mental note in my shot sequence but expanding too much? Maybe it's a cadence thing going from expansion to release?
Hi Coach I have a serious doubt, why does the arrow hit up when we move the sight bar towards the handle? Is there any angle change or is it because of the weight distribution change?
When talking about string alignment, I believe that you have the error direction reversed. As a former competition rifle shooter I agree that the string acts like the rear sight of a gun. The rear sight is always moved in the direction you want the impact to move. If the shots are hitting left, you move the rear sight right to move the impact right. I seem to find that when I loose the string blur to the right which is my common fault, my arrows go right. Perhaps I misunderstood your explanation, could you clarify?
at 20m I happen to put a cheap plastic aiming sight to confirm aiming and club coach noticed that I had the sight at a very low position. He videoed me and told me " You are laying Back and at the same time raising your bow arm shoulder ! (I am Rt handed, Lt eye dominate, I shoot a Lt hand bow, (close my Rt eye and aim with Lt eye)).
With regards to a weak bow arm, what elbow position would you recommond for someone with joint hypermobility? I can extend my bow arm elbow ~10 degree past the straight line, which is also where I can lock my elbow to get the true bone to bone alighment (at least based on how I feel). However my coach always askes me to put a slight bent into the elbow for optimal bone to bone alighmet, where I had to fire up my tricep to keep it bent under load.... Would you say I should lock it by overextending or keep it straight/slight bent inwards? Thanks!!
id say to not lock ur arm, creates tension and possible joint injuries/pain, especially with hyper mobility. keep ur arm straight rather, which could feel like a slight bend. a significant bend is hard to be consistent with, especially at higher poundages, and at longer distances. are u looking to compete in the future? and whats your poundage?
@@jobagoat Thanks! I have been competing only regionally and shooting 40lbs atm. Yea the only relatively famous archer I can find with hypermobile elbow is Lee Seung-yun. He seems to just lock it though. Don't know if that's becuase the others don't lock their elbows or there just aren't many hypermobile archers.
RedmercyGG lee seungyun’s elbow isnt rly that hypermobile, he js doesnt seem to rotate it much. some archers that i know that have hypermobility are oh jin hyek and han jaeyop.
An arrow nock set up for a compound bow with release aid will cause hard contact with the fletching and riser on a flipper type rest. Rotate nock 90 degrees!
Hi Jake, I wonder if you could look at a video for me on you tube the title is call Newbies best barebow anchoring it suggests shooting barebow like you would shoot recure by anchoring under your chin like Olympic style recurve he says you are able to look straight down the arrow better plus the release is better because you don't have to come away from your face to release the string. I have seen English longbow shooters anchor in this way and although I have won tournaments when shooting against these that anchor that way I cannot beat them their left and right are very good and they get very high scores I am wondering if this might work well for barebow and you having the correct technique when it comes to recurve shooting might give it a try and see if scores or grouping improves might have to string walk down a little to be able to get arrow point on the target.I would be interested in your point of view thanks.
The main issue is the gnomes that add 6s to my bow while I sleep. Gotta just shoot all the 6s out of it in practice rounds so I can hit 9s and 10s, but the gnomes get craftier by the day.
Im suddenly getting my arrows flying to the left. But its really extreme, I have to aim to the right, outside of my target for my arrows to hit anywhere near the centre. I do notice im not rotating my bow arm enough, but is that enough to cause this extremity? I string walk at 20yards - 26lb, I make sure alignment is good... I loosened my pressure button but nothing seems to be working :(
@@JakeKaminskiArchery Thanks for replying!! I actually close my left eye already as I am left eye dominant (I think its too late to switch to left hand haha). In general would you say Im not having enough face contact? Much appreciated
What distance are they going in at an angle? I assume you mean an angle left and right? If its at blank bale type distances, your tune could be far off or center shot off. If at distance, possibly wrong arrow spine, really far off center shot, its windy, the target butt causes your arrows to kick upon entry (if arrows are all at random angles).
@@JakeKaminskiArchery Impact is point left, nock right. Happens from 10 and 20 yards. 20# at 27.5 inch. 25 inch riser with long limbs. CX Medallion arrows 1000 spine, 110 gr. point. Calm conditions with little or no wind. Just getting into barebow a little late in life and relying quite a bit on your videos. Any advice is always appreciated.
Forgive me, anyone, who likes this video, but how can anyone remember all of these things? It seems to me that you'd have to think for 20 minutes before you took a shot; not to be funny or anything.
I've always shared with fellow new archers that archery is a game of mental checklists and a near perfect sense of mind muscle connection. Thus, those with the greatest mental fortitude for these things will prevail. Practicing portions of the sequence over and over again is what helps you move aspects of the sequence from the conscious mind to the sub conscious mind. Olympian level archers shoot 500+ arrows a day 5+ days a week, before even considering other conditioning. A typical club level shooter might do 100 - 200 shots a week, in stark contrast. Hence, the opportunity to practice is significantly lesser.
I shot barebow for decades. It was not regarded as a true form of the arts. Now we find the whole dam archery world jumping on tbe band wagon. We knew what real archery was.

Great, concise, video explanation.
Possibly the best archery video ever made for beginner and intermediate archers.

Hi Coach I have a serious doubt, why does the arrow hit up when we move the sight bar towards the handle? Is there any angle change or is it because of the weight distribution change?
If I lean back (like Reo Wilde), I hit low. This happens to me usually on longer distances when I get tired.

arrow spine is not correct; usually this; nocks to the left-spine is too week, nocks to the right, the spine is too stiff...
Another reason for hitting left: chin not high enough during anchor
Wind can also drive your arrows left or right
perforce bow has problem
Also, having awful bow tune severely affects your shots v_v
lol I will eventually correctly tune my bow

Yeah I spotted that too 👍 we just not mentioning it...? 😋

try adding a VERY heavy boradhead...
