    Images look great as does the holding (auto) focus during a long zoom. But i would liked to have seen more 1) How that smaller sensor coped with DOF images; 2) handheld shots; 3) long zoom in and out with focus set on far distant subject in auto mode but then switched to manual mode for the actual zooming in and out. An exciting camcorder though. Can't wait for more tests!

    Hi, what does ungraded or graded mean ?

    • @tasercs
      @tasercs 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These links are a nice, short investigation into the pros and cons of log shooting.
      Link 1: Why you should use log: th-cam.com/video/6h5zHPxECiw/w-d-xo.html
      Link2: How you add a quick grade: th-cam.com/video/vXwtEcpGQOY/w-d-xo.html
      Basically, log (or flat) profiles 'squash' all of the image information towards the center of the brightness range. Nothing gets too close to peak highlights and nothing gets too close to lowest blacks. This gives a safety net and preserves black and highlight information which will not be lost.
      In post production you can 'stretch out' the contrast range, bring down the lowest blacks and boost up the highest highlights. You can add saturation etc. etc. This post production stage is called grading. It can be a fixed grade in the form of a LUT that you apply to footage or you can do it on the fly for each shot.

      Hi @@nathansakellariou3834
      I was really happy when I bought the Pana, it looks like a "real" camera, a great touch&feel, two dedicated grid, ND filters, a lot of settings etc etc etc... but when it comes to the real "focus point" it all becomes useless, as you can see in the comparative.
      I don't really know the reason, maybe because of the small sensor (but the XA40 has the same size!) or maybe it's my fault and I need to keep digging into those settings menu, but when the light goes out I can't shoot clearly anymore!
      The XA40 is a "toy", compared to the Pana, but it provides a really good shot in every kind of situation, no matter what!
      I am still trying to find a good reason to keep the Pana with me, since I bought on sale at a nice price during Prime Days, but I guess that I'll end returning it back to Amazon, cause I have to make a choise between the two, or go with another different model.
      Let me know if you need more info or comparative, I have til January 31th for a refund.

    Huch. Great looking footage (at longer focal lengths - Also in your low light 2nd test video). But the corner / edge / border sharpness at the widest focal length setting is really bad. For example: Your starting shot looks to be on the widest setting - And the building on the left is A MESS sharpness wise (altough the whole center is super sharp). Also the right seems to be falling off quite severly - Though not as extreme as the left side (in this shot at least). Btw.: You can see that sharpness fall-off also in other scenes (in this and your 2nd video). Is this only due to the fact that its a beta / testing unit? Do you maybe have access to a final version to compare?

      Look a Panasonic hater. Go to a 8 bit Sony thread, this is for real 10 bit camcorder holders. And by the way, there was no bad focus, so take your hate somewhere else.

    • @AustrianGeek
      @AustrianGeek 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thewalkingvloggingman7152 Good guess but no (about the Panasonic hater ^^). Shooting on GH5, GH5s and GH5 II weekly. We also have some "good old" Panasonic VX11 handycams at work. Event thought about getting the X2000 or CX10 about two weeks ago as a used unit. But with the Panasonic HC-X20 now on the market (which is basically a repackaged CX350) its now the better option - Even though its way pricier sadly.
      Btw.: 10 bit is nice and good to have (love the GH5 variants also for chroma-keying stuff). But in the test footage it looks like the corner / outer area of the lens is just not holding up in widest angle setting - Just look at the first scene. The middle left building in the background is WAY sharper than the outer left. And the middle right building in the background is WAY sharper than the outer right one. Either the lens barely covers the sensor anymore at the wides focal setting and you get therefor into the unsharp circle area of the projected image, or its due to a pre-production variation which caused that (and its fixed now with the production units). Sadly I don´t have one to test that out ^^. LG

    • @gotscottgreen
      @gotscottgreen 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GlitzGlamTVProductions I'm in an area that is limited in budgets. I have used the XA series for years. XA10-25-35. I do a LOT of plays and concerts and so forth, they are pretty nice in those environments. I need SDI for my switcher and something with LANC because I custom built PT heads that work remotely and can handle all the PT movement AND camera controls over one LAN cable. However, the XF405 is what I am/was looking at as a possibility, until this group of Panasonics came out, I also use a GH4 & GH5 for my more "creative" stuff, and if these Panasonics are decent to good in low light, they may cut in better than my Canons for B & C roll. This is for my own business that I have had for 20+ years.
      At my work, we use vMix for all our live webinars and also recording for training, so the NDI function has also piqued my interest in these new Panas, that is a controlled studio environment, so I can light it well. We use the same Canon's in that environment except for Green screen and marketing, where again I use GH4's & 5's.

    • @gotscottgreen
      @gotscottgreen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GlitzGlamTVProductions yeah, I'm hoping once these Panas come out the price drops, but the new XF400/405 and XA 50/55 all have the 1" sensor, which is why I am having a hard time between the two. I can wait until these come out and look at a comparison video/review and see what happens. It's a tough call.
      Good luck with it all, I will say, if you don't need 4k or some of the bells, the XA 40&45 are good with the smaller sensor (and they do 4k), if you don't need all the pro stuff the G50 uses the same sensor and is pretty nice in the prosumer level. Also the HF21 is only 1080 p, but is pretty much an XA35. There is a 1" sensor version in the prosumer level called the HF G60 that would have the same sensor as the XF 400/405. The main differences in the Prosumer models are no SDI, they reduce some of the recording format (4:2:0 instead of 4:2:2) and lower bit rate or FPS recording (IE 4k30 vs 4k60, etc).

    I'll have to ask some questions about this footage.
    1. Was it all handheld ?
    2. Was autofocus being used ?
    3. Did you use a LUT to grade all of the Cine-D footage, or was each shot individually graded.
    4. I'm a big fan of the Natural colour profile on the GH5 - is that profile available on the X2000 ?
    I'm looking forward to reading reviews of this camcorder when the press get hold of it in April. At the moment I can't make up my mind if it's a complimentary camera to my GH5, or a replacement!

    • @Holdannews

      Hi Graham, answers to your questions:
      1. All shots used a tripod
      2. Autofocus was used for every shot
      3. No LUT used, only contrast and little saturation added to each shot.
      4. Doesn't seem that there is a 'Natural' PP in the menu. There is the choice of 'HD, SD, Filmlike1, Filmlike2, Filmlike3, Cine-D, Cine-V, and Still'. You can however jump into each of these gamma modes and change characteristics such as 'Chroma Level, Chroma Phase, Master Pedestal, Black Gamma' etc etc.

      Hey Petr, I know i've noticed this too. If i'm completely honest i'm not 100% sure why this happened, as I didn't notice it in the other shots. This was a pre-production model however, so i'm hoping it's something that's resolved when the final product is available. Thanks for watching! KH

      Who gives a damn about the back ground building on the left, the shot of him was in focus, nobody cares about background shots in focus when there is a portrait interview type shot.

    you had a good idea offering the 2 different views of the camera's performance capabilities. But it would have been far more useful if you used a complete image of the footage uncorrected and corrected and played side by side. Instead, you duplicated identical footage and superimposed half that was graded over the top of the ungraded footage.
    that only serves to create a bit of confusion and doesn't paint a clear picture of the before grading and after. Being able to see the full image graded and ungraded playing side by side gives a much clearer understanding of the camera's capabilities. As the video progressed you began to superimpose different color grades over the original, thereby creating even more confusion.
    Keep in mind that most people's minds and eyes do NOT work the same way that your mind works, or sees what your eyes do... we're all different. I suffer vertigo & migraine headaches. Seeing superimposed layers like what you used seems to aggravate the migraine & the vertigo problems. Oddly, seeing 2 of the same image, with one corrected and the other as the original, seeing them playing side by side does not seem to bother the vertigo or the migraine. At least not all that much.
    I am NOT a professional videographer nor am I colorist specializing in color grading of film. But I I do videography and I do color grading and color correction so I do understand both procedures well enough. I think I know enough to offer an informed review and critique. Thank you for the review footage both graded and ungraded. It helps, but after a few minutes of watching I had to stop. The vertigo intensified and the migraine was starting to kick-up. Thank you for your well thought, presented and creative video review.
