The older guy says "He was an electrical contractor in another state" Is that where he learned to land a Neutral and a Hot wire to the same buss? You may wonder why they didn't show a circuit test at the conclusion of the video! This video should be flagged for removal due to dangerous and incorrect procedure.

For future people watching they incorrectly connected the neutral and hot together on the neutral bus. They fixed it in their next video yet I don’t think they ever mentioned their huge and dangerous mistake. If you have one of these square D sub panels do not do what they did.

As of 7/27/2021 this video still has not been corrected.
I appreciate that this video was made as it was the only instructional video I could find for this specific box, but in this video both the neutral and one of the hot wires are connected to the neutral bar.
The neutral should be where the left hand hot wire is (parallel with the hot wire on the right) and the second hot wire should be connected to the other end of the hot circuit. In this case, the second hot wire connection should be all the way to the left and slightly above the right hand hot wire (if you install the box right-side-up it would be all the way to the right and slightly below the left hand hot wire).

As soon as that 70 amp breaker in the house "blew" they should have reshot the entire episode. I guess TH-cam doesn't protect us from negligent activity, just "naughty" subjects...

10 months ago I commented that there should be a ground rod (grounding electrode) connected to this panels ground bar as required in Article 250. No comment from anyone! If you do not test the rod to prove 25 ohms or less resistance, then you are required to install two ground rods. The ground rods are for the purpose of sending lightning to Earth, not ground fault in any way.

    • @rileycrain5784

Hi, I was just going to ask if they should install a ground rob. Of course I’m installing a sub panel in my detached shed (70ft), and I’m curious if I install a ground rod

    • @KevinCoop1
      @KevinCoop1 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@rileycrain5784 Before I answer, I’m going to tell you the ground rods function. Ground rods are connected to electrical systems to dissipate lightning to earth to lessen damage within the system. Normal sub-panels in the same structure are not required to have grounding electrodes (ground rod or others). But when you feed a detached structure, you are required to install two of them. Unless you test it for only one. Just so you know. You are also required to have a means of disconnect in the incoming feeder to the detached structure at or near the point it enters the structure. What does that mean? If the feeder enters the structure, at the panel, a main breaker will satisfy the requirement. But if it enters and the sub-panel is further than (let’s say 10 feet of conductors) then there must be an enclosed breaker or a safety switch. Non fusible meets the requirement. Any other questions?

Every day is a chance to learn something new.
Read through the comments and many people question many things.....
Is the panel mounted up-side down? Can you mount the breakers so off is up? Was th panel marked. "THIS END UP"?
Did he physically get the wires in the correct place?
Does the building require a seperate ground rod and ground wire?
What about a building disconnect switch near or on the outside of the building? This may vary based on your local building department.
Another videoer got a permit for his "pole bar" as an "agricultural building" which added extra wiring requirements based on NEC 547 (I BELIEVE). Specific wires or conduits based on expected animals housed/stored there.
The building department or your local Electricians are great esources to get everything correct. Inspectors go from jobs items to job site and see many different ways it was done and your locals may have solved a problem last week that do not even know you have.
    Take care and be safe.
