From Papa Dut: I am seeing this for the first time with all of you! Dustin, this still doesn’t seem real. I can’t tell you just how much this means to me. I’m a 60 year old man who had a dream of owning this car since I was 14 years old. You literally have made my lifelong dream come true. More than the car, the fact that you did this for me means everything. This car will be used frequently if not daily. This car is too beautiful to sit in my garage. If I was younger, I would go for a manual transmission. But, for mom and I to cruise, the automatic is much more sensible. You knew that my engine preference was the modern 392 and you got that for me too. I can’t wait to see this at SEMA and even more, I can’t wait to get this machine home to start driving it. I love you so much and I can’t say thank you enough. I’ll see you in just a few weeks in Vegas!
A supercharger for Christmas, dad? Ask Santa please, lol. Congratulations, and as an old dad myself, I understand the love of muscle cars. You raised a great kid, and even though I'm 59 I enjoy his content and live vicariously through his adventures. I look forward to seeing your first burnout.
I laughed when Dustin was introducing the 392 Hemi with an 8 speed talking about how it was perfect for you to "putt" around in haha. It's one hell of grocery getter sir, I am jealous for sure!
This makes me so happy. My dad just passed away on October 19th 2024. It also breaks my heart at the same time. I’ve always wished I could have done something like this for my dad. He has a 1969 dodge dart in his garage that he tore apart to rebuild years ago and fell down in health throughout the years and we never got around to putting it back together. I just wish I knew more about it to have done it while he could have watched. Life just doesn’t work that way sometimes. He would’ve have loved these videos. A huge mopar or no car guy. Great job Dustin. I know your dad is proud of you!
Nah it matters. But not on everything. Some cars are better with a manual but some cars are better with an AT because the shifts are better and no one wants a sluggish manual. And some manufacturers know that if they make a specific car, without a MT, they’ll lose half the loyalists.
Tim is such an asset to this channel. Can you imagine how much less would have been done without Tim? Absolutely unreal what he has added to the team. Excited for this build even though it would be way better if it was an old Mustang and a coyote.
Dude the transmission in that is sick. It’s called the 8HP from ZF. A lot of people swap their skylines and Supras with it. Drift builds, drag builds. You can get a Turbolamik TCU and it can be driven in auto or put a racing sim shifter on it and bang gears like a sequential manual. Best of both worlds.
I think this is going to be a top 3 build for me. Not just because of the subject matter but also because of where it's going. How special it must be for your father to see all the effort you and tim are putting into making his dream a reality! I love the engine and gearbox choice. It's still a dodge heart ( thankfully no LS) and the auto is going to make it so much more driveable. Everything in this so far is showing that the car is custom tailored to your dad and I love it. Also, remembering other car shows that put modern engines in older frame. Good luck with the electronics later on! May the odds be ever in your favour! I'm looking forward to this series!
my favorite car tuber building my favorite car for his pops? can’t beat that! restomod is the way to go, classic looks with modern drivability! take the time now while the engine is out and put a cam from MMX in it for that authentic chop 😍
Get rid of the cylinder deactivation, the MDS system, upgrade the oil pump, and a set of headers at minimum. Im a certified dealer technician if you do that the engine will really wake up and be reliable long term for your pops. If you are gonna add any sort of forced induction or major tuning replace the rods, pistons, and crank they are just about maxed out from the factory.
Restomods are the best! I'd love a 66/67 mustang with a coyote and all new running gear but otherwise look old school on the outside. Can't wait to see the big finish.
While the engine is out, delete the mds. 392s are pretty stout from the factory, so the typical mods like you would run on an LS (ie heads, cam, intake) won't yield near as much power gains. These modern hemis HATE mds and typically drop lifters as they age. A delete kit will ensure your dad doesn't run into the troubles modern challenger, Charger, and truck owners have down the road, but it will lower fuel economy (if you even give a shit in a 70s muscle car lol).
Do rods and pistons and put a hellcat blower on it but whatever you do do not put the hellcat blower on it with stock internals 392s internals are like glass and there's some long tube headers and make a breathe well
It's sooooo cool you're doing this for your Dad. It's funny, your dad's dream is this car, my dream is to do something like this for my dad. I would guess you guys are living out the dreams of Fathers and Sons all over America and probably alot of other places all over the world. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to see that awesome car with a manual hellcat setup but to each is own, also time and money is always a factor. Huge props to you and the team making this happen.
Dut sick vid Challenger is such an iconic car and the SRT perfect swap 👌 id keep it silver but would do a T/A Trans Am Racing/Pro Touring look that'd be epic great work 👍
If you plan to really put some power down on that thing you’re gonna have to upgrade the internals. 392 6.4’s are known to have very “sensitive” internals and that’s where people try to cut corners and thing a stock motor will be able to take any kinda boost or any kinda power upgrade but also inspect or replace lifters as your dad will be able to go on for a long time without lifters going out anytime soon.
The ZF8 is the best 8 speed hands down. BMW’s and Audi put XHP (BMW) or 034 Motorsports (Audi) tunes on them and they shift like DCTs but are comfortable like a normal torque converter auto when you aren’t on the throttle. As for the motor, those don’t like boost unless you build them. But you can port the heads and put a cam in it. Long tube headers. Can easily get that 485 to 575+
I don't know if all SRT engines have it but it may be best to delete MDS (cylinder deactivation). You'll need to swap the cam and some stuff but shouldn't need the whole engine to be taken apart.
Let’s gooo this build is going to be so sick! Can’t wait to check it out in person at SEMA next month! I’m sure my dad will especially appreciate it given all the tuners I’ll be forcing him to stop and look at while we’re there 😂🤘🏻
That's pretty sad if that was an original 340 car. That small block has big power potential and they can be expensive as hell. I haven't looked at prices of one in years but I'd guess it's worth way more than that SRT assembly. it all depends on what heads it has that makes it go from expensive to ungodly expensive
As much as I wanna say full send it and do a major build on it pistons, rods, cam and etc. etc. but it’s for pops. Fully stock that thing will be a ripper for him. Perfect for what he would want out of it. I know I will probably catch hate but hey just my opinion.
It so aweSome Dustin is doing this for his dad and its going to be the next sema build it kind of stinks that its not a numbers matching car because there worth alot of money I remember when I was a kid and my dad was alive he had a 1967 Chevy 2 nova with a 382 striker motor with a 4 speed but as me and my brother got older he sold the 67 Chevy 2 for another 1969 nova ss 350 small block he wanted to race in nhra the 67 Chevy 2 was to nice to turn into a race car
When I worked in the boomer Chevy industry I dealt with Cold Case quite a bit, they make a good product. If I recall correctly they spun off of Pypes Performance Exhaust, same guys. We actually commissioned them to create us a replica of the 1970 Chevelle 396 big block factory exhaust options, since purists love OE. Anyway, they were a bit of a pain in the ass with their product listings though, always wanting preferential treatment over the other radiator brands we carried. It's like I'm not reorganizing my entire radiator category because you want to be listed first. Great guys in person though, their Sema booth had an entire wet bar this one time. Drank quite a few shots of expensive liquor after hours with the guys, good times. OE Fan shrouds were always a real pain in the ass. Every car had like 40 different shrouds. It all depended on year and engine package, and some of them did not look like they were correct but they were... and there was always the one guy who wanted his resto to be period correct that would argue about what the correct shroud was and how he's gonna be made fun of at the car show if he gets the wrong one. I'm not kidding. Oh the joys of steering gearboxes and the linkages. Makes you appreciate rack & pinion a lot more huh? If you're gonna replace hardware, I would recommend a company called AMK. I think they do Mopar. Either way, they make master hardware kits for these old cars, with the correct stuff. Really nice quality product to be honest but gets pricey.
New spark plugs while the engine is out would be much easier than while the engine is in! Still doable with the engine in obviously but would be so much easier since you have it out already.
the 392s have weak lifters from factory, dod which shuts off 4 cylinders when cruising, you can turn it off in the tune but the stock lifters can still collapse
Hey Dut just got off work so I’m late to the vid. I love what yall are doing to the challenger but it would be cool if yall put headers on her! Just my two cents, have a good night!
Do a cam and lifter kit and MDS delete on the motor while you have it out. These hemi engines are know for failing lifters which will eat up your cam if not remedied as soon as you hear the ticking. Don’t ask how I know this 😂😒
Great work lads 👌 Dad's Gona be jumping up and down like a school girl when this is done 😂... Btw Dut when you're done with your Dad's dream car, can you do mine please. Crystal white R32 please 😬😬😬
Nice my dad use to have an American muscle car when my parents first landed here in United States in the 1977 I always wanted to find the car he first had when he came to the United States
Delete the Displacement on Demand feature. I think they call it Active Fuel Management now. DoD can lead to lifter and cam destruction. Maybe even a Hellcat oil pump to bring the pressure up as well.

I'm incredibly happy for you & Dustin is amazing!!
Sure hope my boys do this for me some day. Congratulations

Why do we always have to acknowledge auto vs manual. If you own it and love it, nothing else matters! 🤙🏽
Amen 🙌🏼
On a car channel?
Automatic sucks lol
Nah it matters. But not on everything. Some cars are better with a manual but some cars are better with an AT because the shifts are better and no one wants a sluggish manual. And some manufacturers know that if they make a specific car, without a MT, they’ll lose half the loyalists.
@@benjaminhui5014 says the immature kid lol manual is fun but auto is superior
Tim is such an asset to this channel. Can you imagine how much less would have been done without Tim? Absolutely unreal what he has added to the team. Excited for this build even though it would be way better if it was an old Mustang and a coyote.

Wow, didn’t know that. So sick!!
Car looks solid underneath. A good candidate for ice blasting.

Please paint the new engine block orange. I love old cars with new tech 😍
It came orange already 👍🏼
my favorite car tuber building my favorite car for his pops? can’t beat that! restomod is the way to go, classic looks with modern drivability! take the time now while the engine is out and put a cam from MMX in it for that authentic chop 😍

Add to that a quality catch can, enlarged throttle body (with matched intake porting) and a tune.
@gouldnj fair point totally spaced on the one I hot caught up on all the big stuff
Awesome video as always Dustin. This is going to be such a beast on the road and it’s going to rip up the asphalt.
Restomods are the best! I'd love a 66/67 mustang with a coyote and all new running gear but otherwise look old school on the outside. Can't wait to see the big finish.

It needs the Whiney boy mod next👹loving the build so far!!
Dut sick vid Challenger is such an iconic car and the SRT perfect swap 👌 id keep it silver but would do a T/A Trans Am Racing/Pro Touring look that'd be epic great work 👍
Can you put a mild cam in it?? Give it a little top and idle chop. Nothing that will change around town drivability but to make it sound nasty at idle
Thats what im sayin
Let’s go! Been waiting for the Challenger build
392s are nice and I got one in my 2014 Challenger SRT8. That 340 got some punch too
Tim is such a legend I wish him nothing but the best he's such a good guy.
The ZF8 is the best 8 speed hands down. BMW’s and Audi put XHP (BMW) or 034 Motorsports (Audi) tunes on them and they shift like DCTs but are comfortable like a normal torque converter auto when you aren’t on the throttle. Excited for this one. I hope you do a M-W-F upload until SEMA.
Car definitely deserved a least the hellcat motor but understandable on why u went with the 392. I am stoked to see how the build comes out!
Greetings from germany this is a really nice video. So happy for your dad and a great car. Keep going theres more to come
Let’s gooo this build is going to be so sick! Can’t wait to check it out in person at SEMA next month! I’m sure my dad will especially appreciate it given all the tuners I’ll be forcing him to stop and look at while we’re there 😂🤘🏻
Oh baby! Can't wait for this one! Old school muscle is what got me into cars when I was a kid.
Have a feeling this is gonna be my favorite build of yours Dut. Keep them vids coming ❤
This is going to be epic. Can't wait to see Papa Dut's reaction once he drives it w/ the new engine
This is gonna be an awesome build… when papa dut sees this again the shock is gonna be on another level 😊
That's pretty sad if that was an original 340 car. That small block has big power potential and they can be expensive as hell. I haven't looked at prices of one in years but I'd guess it's worth way more than that SRT assembly. it all depends on what heads it has that makes it go from expensive to ungodly expensive
Not a matching numbers car, so wouldn't matter
It was a newer 360 magnum with a 340 air cleaner cover.
This is by far my favorite series so far its like watching my dream car be built.
As much as I wanna say full send it and do a major build on it pistons, rods, cam and etc. etc. but it’s for pops. Fully stock that thing will be a ripper for him. Perfect for what he would want out of it. I know I will probably catch hate but hey just my opinion.
This is the start of an incredible build! Going to be a real cruiser, and frankly any more power would be dangerous in these old muscle cars lol
Thought for sure I was going to see a hellcat swap lol. Excited for a different kinda build on the channel and see what it turns out to be!
Your dad is going to love the car once everything is finish. 🎉
Cool meeting you today at Dicks! Keep up the great work and keep the content coming! 🍻
I'm so stoked when you do a restoration to a beautiful dodge specially when it's for your dad so Fire

e91 m3 build was 🔥 and f81 build will be too👌🏼👌🏼
if you want to spice up the auto id recommend messing with one of those hursts shifters that let you bang into gears if you wanna!!
Keep the motor! Great garage piece and its original to the car.
That’s awesome building your dad dream car Dustin :)
The only thing I’m upset about is this video was only 15 minutes 😭 I NEED more!!!! Love it!
Go thru the transmission and aftermarket headers they tend to crack. Depending on mileage on the 6.4 go thru the heads
Geeked for this build 🎉
the 392s have weak lifters from factory, dod which shuts off 4 cylinders when cruising, you can turn it off in the tune but the stock lifters can still collapse
I so look forward to your videos. I can’t believe you don’t have more subscribers
Hey Dut just got off work so I’m late to the vid. I love what yall are doing to the challenger but it would be cool if yall put headers on her! Just my two cents, have a good night!
Great motorswap. Can't wait to see the finish product.
YES!! I love that engine. I had a couple. So cool😊
Should definitely keep that four barrel and put it in a 90s jet boat 🤘🏼
You should've gone with a hellcat engine, but you can supercharge the 392 which you should definitely do
Only took your dad 1 car to make him happy ❤
You should hold on to motor and trans. It increases car value if you have number matching parts
Super pumped for this build!
So what's the plan on that 340 you took out ? I have a 65 dart that it would fit in nicely, price?
Dad’s gonna love it!
Your pops is a lucky lucky lucky man that thing is going saaaaaweeeeeet
pretty sick build!
Your dad is lucky! Lately I been digging hot rods besides jdm lol
What kind of camshafts are in that SRT? You thinking of upgrading the internal parts? Check out hemifever tuning
Definitely headers and maybe a cam? I feel like that old dodge needs a cam to really fulfill the full dream
You need to give Cleetus and Squirrel a call...they are the Hemi Brothers 😂
Cam and lifter asap and then go ahead and do the full exhaust while you have it out
Build the engineee tune it good exhaust done
Always a great day when dut uploads 🤙🏼🔥
Stoked for this!
I think it’s perfect that it’s an Automatic ❤❤❤❤
Do a cam and lifter kit and MDS delete on the motor while you have it out. These hemi engines are know for failing lifters which will eat up your cam if not remedied as soon as you hear the ticking. Don’t ask how I know this 😂😒
We need more classic muscle content around the shop
if installing a hemi Dustin you should get k member for a hemi they still sell them for the challengers and cuda's and chargers.
check the cam an lifters if you got a chance blown up 3 in the las 4 years all stock motors
Damnit. I was really hoping you'd leave the Flowmaster's on there😓😓 hands down the best sounding mufflers on muscle cars.
Those are small blocks lol But love the build doing the same thing for my sons 70 cuda
WHIPPLE!! Put a WHIPPLE ON IT
My favorite build so far!!
HECK YES. My kinda car content here!
He also needs apple car play, back-up camera and a nice sound system
Definitely put longtube headers on it
Gonna be a fucking amazing build!
Love the whole build and surprising your dad.. but I wanna know the routine.. how tf you starting to look younger again dut..
If those were OEM parts… they could have been sold for a descent price… but I think you said part of the exhaust or whatever wasn’t oem or welded
If you want a recommendation for something to put on that engine, you should get a dodge branded supercharger.
how about some wilder cams? for that old school muscle vibe
That OF money beee hitttinnnn
Damn the glue you ate this morning went straight to the smooth brain 😂
Delete the Displacement on Demand feature. I think they call it Active Fuel Management now. DoD can lead to lifter and cam destruction. Maybe even a Hellcat oil pump to bring the pressure up as well.
So glad you got that spot Dut, wanted to squeeze that sucker so bad! 😝
a sweet sweet supercharger poking out is the only thing missing
Is it the torqueflite 8 speed or the ZF?
You should really keep that old engine and trans if it’s numbers matching.
Throw on a blower with the supporting mods!
Man that thought that was a demon motor or even a hell cat
Dry Ice Cleaning would help out the car
