    I just order my first Brooks saddle today, a B67. So I’m taking notes regarding the fitment. Thanks for the tips!

    Having just acquired a mini fleet of Raleigh 20's I decided to upgrade them with Brooks saddles, thereby giving them some intrinsic value!
    As of now I have a B66s and a B67s, both new.
    My first impression is the 67 feels noticeably heavier, in spite of having 'less' of a frame. The covers are identical in size and shape. I can't believe how hard and rigid the leather is; it's much like an Ostrich shell!
    My lifetime go to for leather treatment is neetsfoot oil. The leather has took several liberal doses like blotting paper, yet the leather is still rock hard after a week.
    I'm waiting for two more saddles which I intend to use Mink oil for comparison. No doubt time will tell. Always enjoy your video's, Rowan, thank you once again.

    Excellent...and I also agree with your preferences for saddle positioning. All my Brooks saddles are fitted likewise.

    I'm a recent convert to Brooks saddles, got a Flyer Special and absolutely love it. Your B67 fits your Raleigh beautifully. Was wondering myself about your 'nose up' position with the saddles but was too afraid to ask!.... so, thanks for clearing that up!

    Yes I also find myself been thrown forward if I set the seat level (B67), I find it perfect with the nose tilted aprox 15* upwards, as I like to sit near the back of the saddle.

    Just ordered this in black for my Cannondale hybrid. My seat is slightly above my handlebars, but I have long arms so I think I can get away with it. Just did a 45 mile ride after having not rode in awhile on the stock seat and my seat bones were killing me- hope this helps. Great video.

    I have a typical Gazelle Dutch bike. It's a step through and I find I have to have my Brooks B67 quite back in order to ride it successfully.

    I’ve bought a copy of a Brooks type saddle for £10 of Amazon with a third spring up front and I too tilted it up so I could cradle in it. It’s ok apart from two points. On a bumpy road it gets into a weird bouncy rhythm which takes about 20ft to stop and sounds like a honeymoon couple’s bed and when it gets wet the dye runs off and stains my trousers.
    Need to get me on the Brooks test bunny program.

    I was told once by a roadie that my bike seemed nice for a cheap brand (triban) so I pointed out that I had just toured Europe on it the month before, and to enjoy your Sunday ride. Hate opinionated people. I used a brooks cambium cut out. Think I may have to try this model. Thanks for the review.

    Thanks for review. USA here,, I am looking at buying one for my touring bike.
    PS, I always road Italian road bikes, then bought a vintage 1970s Raleigh super course , road awesome ! . I gave it away but am looking for a minty one, a Super Course or Gran Sport ,, English make some fine bikes, I love the curved forks , they seem to soak up bumps and corner well.
    PS thanks for tip on adjusting saddle.
    PS, what is that key for on rack?

    Nice review. I also have my B17 slightly nose up too. Noticed you appear to have some Ergon cork grips. If so, are those the GP1 or GC1 model? I recently put the GC1’s on my Gazelle Medeo T10 and they are terrific

    • @Velocipedium

    Lovely bike to go with the classy saddle. Hi from a Brooks fan in India where they are difficult to get. I have a B17 and now getting a B67 (because it's available) for my other bike. One question though - do the springs squeak? I am a very light rider.

    • @Velocipedium
      @Velocipedium  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes they can squeak ( you hear them on my ride videos) but there are remedies. I would love to make a ling visit to India one day. I have a few Indian accessories.

    The box states that it is made "for" Brooks. Egad, are these no longer made in England?! Perhaps this is the reason for the long term evaluation - trying out a lower cost country for making these?

      You can try with horse saddle cream. I have successfully revived 3 saddles so far with Passier Lederbalsam, but I believe any leather balsam would do. It's cheap and worth a shot.

      @18andlikeit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can tell you that the springs are quite stiff... I push down on the seat pretty hard and I don't see them expand at all. Not saying they don't work, I'm sure they do over rougher terrain but it's kinda hard to see them work as your riding.

  • @zumbaRdie
    @zumbaRdie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Actually the old design is much better and simpler for two reasons. 1. If the set back is needed more for the fore/aft adjustment. The newer post is limited to the set back of either 0 and 15mm. The older design can be adjusted by reversing the clamp. 2. It is easier remove with just two nuts that are on either side. I have owned a few seat post from full titanium made by Litespeed, Carbon and Aluminum. However, when I got my folding bikes it came with this clamp and I thought it was better. Now, if you are concern about weight then this clamp is not for you.

      I suppose I fail to account for the versatility of being able to flip the clamp for a more forward position, because I like mine as far back as possible. You raised a good point.

    Velocipedium, Would you recommend a Brooks to a thirtysomething who hasn't ridden in twenty years because the saddles that came with bikes in the 90s used to hurt my sit bones and perineum? I think they were too narrow. For a road bike, upright riding position. Thinking about either a B67 short or the unsprung version of that seat and a sprung seat post we have sat in the garage. I'm 6 foot but i'm also 16 stone, chunky type

    • @Velocipedium
      @Velocipedium  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the B68 of which you write would be excellent. It depends on how upright and how roady the bike. Another alternative is the Flyer, which is a B17 wide with springs.
