Stuff like this is what makes England one of the greatest nations on Earth. Quality and craftsmanship. I hope these saddles have been awarded a Royal warrant.
just completed a 5000 km bicycle ride across Australia from Perth to Newcastle and i can say my backside never felt like it had been on a bicycle at the end of each days ride-----i fell in love with my best friend the B17 !!!!
I just ordered one, Brooks Flyer in Honey color. Hope it will perform as I expect it. Never had a an English leather yet ever since but had an Italian Rolls saddle.
3:13 Hats off to David Lowe. Too many new managers come in determined to "show them how it's done" and only ruin what had in fact worked well. It sounds like he had the sense and humility to look, listen and learn. Wish that happened more often.
I used to ride a B67 for quite some time. Yesterday, I have returned to Brooks by purchasing the legendary B17 for my trekking bike. It was almost perfect out of the box, hard to imagine, what it will be like when properly broken in. These things are a work of art...
Great to see a company without any signs of "selling out". A true example of uncompromising quality equaling maximum value and utility. Hats off from America.
Casey Bitts Yes, Berthoud is definitely making nice stuff. A bit pricier. They run at about the 200/220€ mark. But whichever way you look at it, the rider is bound to wear out long before the saddle. Of course the saddle is the "throne" of the bike ; the more gorgeous it is, the more the bike stands out. By the way, be sure to oil (neatsfoot) regularly. It's best done by removing the saddle and starting very generously with the underside - let it soak up the stuff. Always remove surplus before adding the next coat. Let dry a minimum of 24 hours. Buff rigorously the last coat. Oiled leather will go on forever. The tragedy with the modern leather is that the animals suffer from pollution just like us. Their hides were far superior before cars and planes ; they grazed on pure organics. But the Brooks are still pretty nifty.
I have three Brooks saddles and they are gorgeous. They are around the 10 year mark now and I've only tightened the one that has around 30.000 km on it once. They do look better with each passing year as the leather gets a shiny patina. Like any other product made of leather It is important to keep them dry and wax them once a year or so. It was a pleasure to see how the saddles are made and hopefully they can stay in business for centuries to come.
From the bottom of my... body - a big thanks to everybody involved in the production of my Team Pro! Now, finally, I get it. I get how the old geezers toured France on their steel frames. This saddle is how
The B17 ist the best saddle in the World for me. I tried out so much ( expensive ) Saddles, until i found out how great your Products are. I love you british people for this outstanding product ! Greetings from Germany.
Thankyou l love my brooks saddle, it’s so comfortable after riding on the Brompton saddle, which sadly was very uncomfortable experience. My son bought me a brooks saddle as a present and it’s the best present ever. Best wishes to you and all your viewers.☺️🌈👌
I had a Brooks saddle in the early eighties while finishing high school. Absolutely loved it! I just got one recently for my road bike - it’s made of rubber and works wonderfully. What a great company, great product and great video! Thank you!
Just received my 1st B17 excited to finish the build to try it out. Loved the vid very much reminiscent of the movies and tv I grew up with for some reason.
My 11-year-old Brooks B17 saddle was the most comfortable saddle I have ever owned from the first day I rode it. I just bought a new Brooks saddle with the split center for my soon-to-arrive e-bike. I can't wait to try it out.
I just bought my third Brooks B17. I love that saddle. The first one is over ten years old. It's the most comfortable saddle I have ever ridden. Mine is way more slack than that in the film. No need to tighten the saddle so early. Unless you want to. I tightent mine first time 1-2 years ago. The front medal piece almost came off the bolt. So I tensioned it a bit. Slack is good with the B17.
Both my partner and I have B17 saddles on our utility, around town bicycles. The understated classiness suits the appearance of both bikes and the comfort level has increased nicely. Great to utilize a 19th century product that's still relevant in the 21st.
Just bought one(finally).a been wanting a B17 for yrs now.My Selle Anatomica X black leather saddle is nearing it's end cycle and yes it's a great seat.Once you go leather you never go back.
Proud owner of a B17 since 3 weeks and I highly recommended! It will takes a lot of time to break him really in but its even brand new better then the old saddle on my Scott ever was....👍
@ITTSBEurope I prefer any brook´s saddle and hereby supporting an unbelievable great company and very fine, british craftmanship and tradition, which is very important in my view!!! (i´m austrian btw) Nothing comes even close to a brooks saddle, it´s worth every single pound or euro, i can highly recommend brook´s saddles, you will have them for your life! The fact that retro bikes are coming more and more nowadays and that those saddles fit PERFECT on retro bikes makes me very happy! I ♥ BROOKS!!!
Great video. I have 2 brooks Saddles, one for me and one for my wife, we love them. Thank you Brooks for not changing with the times and continuing to make a supeior product.
Every time I lock my bike I take out the saddle, seatpost and all, that I then stick through two straps I had sewn to the side of my rucksack. Have a cork on hand to stick into the seat tube. Of course you need a quick release clamp for the post, and don't forget to mark it for the height. If they want my saddle they'll have to take it from me. Plus: a bike without a saddle isn't very appealing to a thief I suppose...
Great video - by chance I had delivered on the same day a new Brooks saddle and a pair of Church's boots - both quintessentially English leather goods companies....both now owned by Italians (Prada in the case of Church's).
I have been riding Brooks saddles for over 40 years. Lovely comfy ride as long as they don’t break! I have had the tension pin and the frames break a few times and just today, my B17 Special (Copper) suffered a double calamity, both the tension pin and the front steel nose both fractured. I have posted off an on line form to Brooks to request a repair. But would I ride on anything else? Answer, no.. My recently purchased EBike (much upgraded from standard by my dealer) had to include a new B17 Special saddle in preference to that supplied. Despite experienced past faults, for me Brooks saddles are still first choice.
It's interesting that the saddles last so long that metal fatigue becomes a factor. Perhaps they might modernize some aspects of their manufacturing to include shot peening or cryotreating the metal parts?
I rode across the US and down to NYC across 18 states with regular shorts and I am sl glad for my Brooks saddle...that B17 is the real deal and the only one I will ever ride.
My B17 is coming off my Surly LHT and going on to my Kona Dew. I have a new Flyer on it's way to me for my LHT. My B17 has been wonderful and super comfortable but I'm hoping the new Flyer will be even more comfortable for those long days in the saddle. I get so many people ask "is that thing comfortable" when they look at my B17 LOL. I guess since it's not smothered in 6 lbs. of gel and lycra how can it be right? They just don't get it - until they ride one. This was a fun watch.

I had a Selle TriMatic, then a Selle Flite, then back to a TriMatic on my Bianchi within about 60,000 miles. I will admit the Flite looked great. I then got a Brooks Team Professional ... love the ride, comfort and the look is classic on steel.
Started doing wheelies in 1975 on Raleigh sports bikes. The unsprung brooks b72 was perfect for this as you could tell exactly what the bicycle was doing underneath you. I was 14 years old in 75. Today I'm 60, I have a 72 paramount, a 71 Raleigh international, a 74 Raleigh professional, and 2 sturmey archer Raleigh sports bikes. Needless to say they all sport brooks saddles. When I die I want Campagnolo record parts and brooks saddles keeping me company in my coffin. 😃
Very good saddle ... I have a B17 that I love, but with the high price they cost, I think Brooks England should have already replaced the normal rivets with stainless steel ones, or started using copper rivets in all models, to end the rust problem.
At one time, I had five Brooks saddles on my stable of rides. Two B-67's (of whichI still have one) and one B-17 Flyer, and two B-17 Standards. I also had a large box of "others', some quite expensive, that were all failures. A Brooks is the only way to get a true custom fitting saddle. Every other is just an exercise in repetition of that goal, and are merely compromises.
I cycled around south East Asia using a brooks b17 ,I would ride up to maybe eight hours a day and the saddle was so comfortable, many years ago I used to use a San Marco Rolls so I bought another one before the b17 ,I'm glad i tried the Rolls but I think most people who purchase the Brooks b17 never use anything else.
I feel the same! As a smaller woman, I've been able to wear youths indoor soccer shoes - black plain ones. That's the nearest thing that has a neat fitted design with a sort of similar shape. I've often seen indoor soccer shoes suggested when looking for alternatives to cycling shoes.
I have been riding a B17 for about 12 years. Nice saddle. Unfortunately, the original white metal rivets are very poor quality. They rusted, broke and were torn right through the leather. Very disappointing. I think I may repair the saddle using the larger size copper rivets, if I can find them. BTW, the name should be 'BROOXIT', since BROOKS was sold to Sella Italia in 2002.
I need a saddle that I will be able to ride 3000 miles, it must have suspension and not cause stress on the gluts, these saddles are the only thing I can find that has any chance of doing that at all, these saddles are the only ones I have seen that aren't junk.
Did they stop making the middlebrook saddlebag and if so why? I have one but I cant get another one on their site as far as I can tell? And that item appears to be made of vinyl where as everything else almost is made of leather..
Aluminum smal rivets are weak point, though. If you're thinking about a Brooks go for the models with large copper rivets. I'd even suggest the company to go for brass rivets, they don't rust or oxidize.
Brass rivets do, however, work harden & shear off. They also weaken when used to join to steel when exposed to moisture, the zinc content basically dissolves out due to galvanic action. Aluminium actually beats brass for such applications. They actually offer solid nickel rivets as a spare part, damned expensive as rivets go, but then nickel is damned expensive compared to the materials used for most rivets too.
Not a great start to the video. One clip shows someone cycling on the pavement, and another clip shows someone going the wrong way down a one-way street. Just bought a B17 Imperial/carved. Still in the break in period, but already loving it.
Lovely. Made in England. Must order one. What’s that you say? I can’t order one directly from England it’s got to be shipped to Italy first and then all the way back to where it came from? Ah right. That’ll help it’s carbon footprint 👏

Finally the proud owner of my first B17 BROOKS 😎 having trouble finding the PROOFIDE cream to protect the saddle I live in N.Y.C any information will be appreciated. Thank you .
You cant beat the heavy duty saddles of the 50s with the circular spring in the front .them hard expensive leather new saddles will never mold to my sensitive cheeks.Their Italian now not British !
Parent companies who buy into brands with a big tradition tend to be more hands off and keen to retain their independence, its not like culling the staff and moving the factory to South East Asia.
I just rode on my first Brooks saddle for the first time ever. Its the B17, and my first ride was 10 miles. I related the ride to riding on a brick. Its what it felt like. My next ride was 20 miles, and it was every bit as painful. Probably more so since the ride was 10 miles further. I sure hope this saddle gets a lot more comfortable, or I'm going to be very disappointed spending $100 on this saddle.
yeah well its leather, it needs to wear in. Like buying a brand new pair of leather walking boots and going straight out on a long hike and then complaining lol
Stuff like this is what makes England one of the greatest nations on Earth. Quality and craftsmanship. I hope these saddles have been awarded a Royal warrant.
The US was similar but has since died and sent all their manufacturing overseas so dumb Americans can waste money on garbage.

Don't worry Albert, keep riding and pretty soon you'll have your own mobile armchair to ride on!
