S500 was very nostalgic since they were my first introduction of miele. That and the S5 series.

Great video, thanks. Ours has been working well except recently we've had the issue where power shuts off when cord is fully out. Apparently the vacuum users in this household don't want to move outlets and try to stretch the cord too far. Anyway, I used your video to tear it down. Considering that we bought it in 1999 and used it hard for 15 years while we had a very hair dog (our needs are more gentle now), it was super clean inside. Nice sealing, Miele!
When I got the winder apart (no broken shaft like the demo) I found cracked out (black) insulation right before the connectors. I figured that meant my problem was a break in wires at the cracks, but continuity checks out, even when I flex the cord at the crack. I think I'll still shorten the cord 6-8" and crimp on new female terminals just to be on the safe side, but I think the real issue is that the contacts in the winder were greasy, dirty and pitted.
I cleaned those up with emery cloth and contact cleaner and I think they're fine. But here's the question -- how much lube (and what kind) should I apply to the coil/ contacts? I'm referring to the brass spiral contacts on the white reel where it meets with the contacts on the black plastic cord-reel frame. I'm thinking a light smear of dielectric grease should be good but the volume of grease/gunk makes me wonder if I should be using something else (and more). Any thoughts?

great video. Our problem was no power, and the cause was a disconnect in the power cord just beyond the cord cap. My husband noted that the cable would be kinked at 90 degrees when the cord was taut. Using a electrical tester/voltage tester, he was able to determine power was not making it to the point of contact of cord to vacuum. So he cut off a 6 inch section of the power cord, including the cord cap, and replaced it with makeshift wires and plug, and voila - when he plugged it in, the vacuum worked! He thought the problem might be a break in the wires of the power cord near the cord cap, after he noticed there was no power at the point of cord reel transfer point, and that's how he determined the power failure was at the cable, and not anything else. Prior to that, he tested for continuity in the power switch and the cord reel (both of which tested fine).

Mine works fine with the exception that the cord keeps getting horizontal cuts in it. Probably cracks. Time to take it apart and replace the cord. This video was a great help!

My aunt had a black Solaris Electro Plus. I love using it, and dream of getting one myself just like it, and maybe converting it to use an SEB236 power brush.

    Hi,
i enjoyed your demo on how to disassemble a Miele S514.
    I have a S514 Solaris ( type HS05, date of manufacture is 2002.
Today (Sept 24, 2023) the 6-setting suction speed dial stopped working. The suction speed is at the highest level.
Can you please tell me if - in genersl - this is something that can be repaired? I am totally okay to bring it to a repair-technician, but, here in Montreal (Canada) such companies usually charge upwards of $100, just to look at the machine....
i would greatly appreciate your advice on this.
    Thanks!!
    Catherine

Thank you so much for watching!
Canada gets different rules ,parts and availability that we have here in the United States. So my recommendation is going to be, check out your local dealer and see what they can do for you. A lot of parts have been discontinued on these older models but a lot of parts are still made. I wish you the best of luck with that

I have a Miele S514 and I need to find a replacement for the "closure/locking latch" that holds the top shut when vacuuming. Mine snapped off eons ago and I've been holding it closed with a very small bungie cord. (story of my life!!) I brought it to a Repair shop that repairs Miele's, but they said there is no replacement for that part. ??? Can that be true?? I'm also not able to see how one would get into that top part of the cannister to replace the latch. Can anyone help?

These machines are old enough the parts are no longer available it's been almost 20 years since one rolled out of the factory. You'll have to buy a donor machine off eBay

Hi I have the C1 Titan. The vacuums motor still runs great but my husband broke the carpet attachment, the SEB 228 electro power brush, so I can only use the Miele on bare floors. I purchased a replacement SEB 228 but returned it because it didn't work when I attached it- I was told it would work with my model vacuum. I'm thinking the telescopic wand or the hose or both are damaged and may need to be replaced. I didn't realize both contain electrical wiring. Is there any way test the hose or the wand before purchasing replacement parts. If I have to replace all 3, I may just consider purchasing a new vacuum.

    • @PerformanceReviews
      @PerformanceReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว

You need to bring everything you have to a vacuum store and have them find the problem for you and fix it. Type in your ZIP code on Miele's website and find an authorized dealer in your area.

@@PerformanceReviews I did. I called the authorized dealer I purchased my Miele from asking for assistance purchasing a replacement power-brush but they never called me back. addendum- sorry I didn't order the SEB electro power brush, I ordered the SEB 217-3- electro comfort brush- like what originally came with my C1 Titan. The C1 is perfect for us I live in the city and have a small place, with mostly hardwood floors and couple of low pile orientals.
