Red guitar is an ES 345, not a 355. I can verify because I had one. And it looks to be mid ‘60s vintage. Freddie also played the ES 355 but not here.Freddie King really made his bones on that Gold Top Les Paul, though.
I saw Freddie King live when he was living. One of my favorite blues players. Love" Rather be blind" written by Leon Russell. Freddie does a version with Leon on his " Texas Cannonball" album. Guitar Pilgrim , you nailed it!
As the Guitar Pilgrim says in the video, it’s similar to Buddy Guy’s Mary, while still doing its own thing. SRV was very inspired by the way Freddie did the licks in-between the main chords. SRV could mimic Freddie or Buddy Guy, which helped with his own blues voicings.
Your bad ass dude!! I love your teaching skills, selections of different varieties of music. But the best thing is you're enthusiasm keep on rocking man!!⚡
Great lesson !! and great point regarding the joy in his playing ! You do an amazing job of getting the essence of the musicians music you teach !! Love the channel Thank You
Lots of the great players of the 60's and 70's including The Beatles freely admit stealing from or being influenced by these great pioneers of Blues/Rock n'roll. Please do more of these, a great way to increase my guitar vocabulary.
Terrific video Thom! There were many great Blues men but FK was definitely at the top of the list! He was not only an amazing guitar player but also an incredible singer as well. Take a listen to "Someday After Awhile" & "Have You Ever Loved A Woman"! He was great. Thanks for this video.... 👍😉
Very similar to buddy guy and later srv copy of mary had a little lamb. This one slipped by me...i assumed we were going to learn hideawy when i came here. Never heard this. Very cool
I have just notice your new guitar , nice ! Freddy king is so good , really like this instrumental album with that gold top p90, and the other Freddy king sings
Thanks a million!! This is so educational!! I just love Freddie King instrumentals... Only one minor unrelated thing if I may add (please take no offence)... when you say "lamb" or "thumb", remember that the final "b" should be silent, it sounds as if you're pronouncing it a bit or maybe it's a Dutch thing (and I apologize if I'm being pedantic, which I probably am). P.S.= For the record, otherwise your English is excellent
Got the same guitar 2013 model with the coil taps. Does yours have them? Also the 2013 model used Granadillo wood for its fretboad. The 409R and 498T pickups are great. Sadly, I feel the Chinese have now copied them in 400 Dollar and up price range guitars. Oh, and by the way, in 2013 the hard shell case ( made in Canada ) with the white fluff cushion came with the guitar. These day, hmm gig bag ?
Great job as usual Thom, I still have my Freddy King instrumentals album, we used to do my version of the soul number years ago, you have great energy and I love your piano playing. Do you like Monk? A great piano number is "Ashokan Farewell" which was on the soundtrack for Ken Burns' Civil War series. Greetings from Port Orchard. WA.
actually the guitar he was playing was actually an es-345 but good guess it is a bit hard to know which one because this particular guitar that Freddie was playing had gold hardware which is what es-355s have. but you can tell a 345 from a 355 because the 355 has a bound headstock and 345s have split parallelogram inlays
Gosh, so many people beg, borrowed, and stole from Freddie King. I'm hearing not only SRV and Clapton, but Jimmy Page too. So much of the Moby Dick riff is here as well as The Ocean. Not just in the blues context but in the simplicity and phrasing.
Yes you can sound like Freddie King, but it's even better if you're playing it on a early 1950s Les Paul gold top with those sweet P90 pickups. Freddie was a tone monster!
great video....Freddie certainly was the "King" on stage there.....or should i say "Boss"......:-) do you knowthe year of the recording....??...would be interesting....i love it..... and of course im getting that song "under my belt"....:-)
If you really want to play Freddie King, use your ears and transcribe yourself 😇. This is how you know you are on the right journey to become an accomplished guitarist.
BB King also played with the strap over his right shoulder. I think he and Freddie did that so it was not resting on their big bellies. Also, you get a great sound out of that Les Paul. What amp were you using?
Hey! What do you think about doing your next "can you play this riff" vid on the great white buffalo riff from ted nugents/the amboy dukes ? Great riff, not too hard, but still... needs à bit of technique and i dont think many youtubers did à vidéo on it !
Enjoy this video with Study Guide: ➤ bit.ly/3Euegsr
yes more Freddie please! The best of the 3 kings imho
Do you know what year the video is from?
SMASH!!!! Yes, gimmi more Freddie King! Much more 😀
@@CorbCorbin 1966
Yes more Freddie King! And a video on the newest "King", Marcus would be great too.
I'm a simple man. I see Freddie King and I click like
One of the backing guitarists in the dark red jacket (and who looks to be the band leader) is the great Clarence Gatemouth Brown.
That's right, an astute observation!

All you have to do is look at the position markers on the neck they are "Double parallelograms and the unbound head stock to identify it
And the Varitone switch. If you find a 345 on Reverb for under $5k, grab it!
I saw Freddie King live when he was living. One of my favorite blues players. Love" Rather be blind" written by Leon Russell. Freddie does a version with Leon on his " Texas Cannonball" album. Guitar Pilgrim , you nailed it!
That was the best time to see him live. Heh, heh.
Freddie King was a monster on guitar! That almost has some Mary Had a Little Lamb vibes! Great video again Pilgrim!
@@CorbCorbin I commented as I was watching! SRV was definitely a juggernaut when it came to playing the blues!
It's got some "Mary" and a lot of "Just Pickin'" (another Freddie instrumental).
Freddy King was indeed a monster.Where do you think Buddy Guy got it from? Too bad he died so young.
Love how you go back to the origins of these licks and break them down oh so well.
Another great video. You really do blues with a feeling. But you need a background dancer like Freddie.
Haha, yes indeed!
definately....and both....:-)
Lol!
Your bad ass dude!! I love your teaching skills, selections of different varieties of music. But the best thing is you're enthusiasm keep on rocking man!!⚡
He's playing a Gibson Es345 in the video you showed...... Albert Collins played with his guitar slung over his shoulder also..
Great lesson !! and great point regarding the joy in his playing ! You do an amazing job of getting the essence of the musicians music you teach !! Love the channel Thank You
Looks like your enjoying that new guitar. It's a beauty.
Someone is enjoying their recent Gibson acquisition!!! Go hard! Love your work!
Yes, I can, and did on my yellow Les Paul DC after watching this a couple of times.
Quite a lot of fun!
Cheers.

Freddie King has such a present, in-your-face-but-still-groovin' style. He grabs your ear but doesn't let it go like some guitarists do.
Very similar to buddy guy and later srv copy of mary had a little lamb.
This one slipped by me...i assumed we were going to learn hideawy when i came here. Never heard this. Very cool
Also similar to 'Come On (Let the Good Times Roll)' Earl King covered by Hendrix.
Check out Billy Cox over Freddy's shoulder on bass.
Great video again GP - thanks.
Albert Collins also used the guitar strap like that!
Glad somebody else noticed. Don't you just love Collins' Don't mistake kindness for weakness?
I love your interpretation and feeling that you show.... Great job!
Simple blues but great power 🎸😊💪
J'aime vraiment beaucoup cette chaine,ce mec, super musicien ecoute et propose toujours de la bonne musique
Fantastic breakdown! Always a pleasure to watch!
Best guitar I seen you play. I like that sound.
Again a very cool tutorial...
Thanks Sir!
This is one of your Best! really Great

this is great! more of this kind of stuff please
Just great Thom, definately more Freddie!!
damn i'm so excited when i saw "freddie king" , my favorite king of all!
Albert Collins wears the strap on the right shoulder too. I would like your opinion about him. Or a video of the master of telecaster!
T-Bone Walker too.Seems one reason the old blues guys did it was to avoid messing up their hair!😉
You could dedicate the next year to amazing Freddie King licks
Gran trabajo. Gracias
It's a 1960 ES345, you can tell by the split parallelogram inlays and long pickguard, unbound headstock. Gibson reissued the guitar in 2016.
Freddie King is the best of the Blues "Kings", in my opinion.
Maybe the 3 Kings?
Amazing lesson. Thanks.
Thanks GP, I do believe I'll queue up some Freddie today.
Blow the dust off the needle first. !!! Lol,,, 😎✌
@@michaelmendillo7513 don't need to, will play Freddie's Dust My Broom first and he'll clean the grooves with his groove.
@@CraigHollabaugh lol. !!!! Enjoy my friend. !!!! I am certain that you play guitar also, jam along with the King. !!!! 😎✌✝💕
i am from Brazil love all your videos
The only thing missing from this video is the profuse amount of Freddie King sweat.
Awesome history, lesson, and more.
thank you mate, special, we need to learn it step by step
Awesome licks! Love it!
I didn't know that riff... sounds great!
The Three Kings in order Albert, Freddie and BB in my opinion...
You can't be a bluesman without worshiping the Three Kings: Albert, B.B., and Freddy.
Ah, yes the three wise men!
Hail the Kings.
Freddie King is great. That background dancer though is true 60ies spirit. Love it.
Do something on Lonnie Mac he‘s one of Stevies inspiration.
Albert Collins held the guitar on his right shoulder too
Just woke The Day of the Dead down here in Mexico. Respect.
Happy ☠ Day.
Awesome! Thanks for this!👌
You know how to pick them Pilgrim,,,
No pun intended,,,, TY Bro. !!!! 😎✌✝💕
Can you do one on Freddie king going down
Never been a Les Paul fan but that one is sharp!

The Master Mr. King.
Plz make a video of "Southbound Again" from Dire Straits. Such an underrated song of them

Good lesson
Freddie King, Albert King, Marcus King, BB King, all the KIngs are very wellcome, Thanks!
Carrying the guitar "gunslinger" way helps for not unbalancing those big guitars with one button on the back instead of on the side.
So cool!!!
Yes you can sound like Freddie King, but it's even better if you're playing it on a early 1950s Les Paul gold top with those sweet P90 pickups. Freddie was a tone monster!
I want that there geeetaaar....😁👏🏻👏🏻
I have it and love it
Fabuloso
Would love to some a lonnie mack very similar style
Chris Simmons owns Mr. Kings guitar now.
A little beat sound of “Merry have little lamb” by SRV
Gold.......!
Any chance you could post a second video of you doing the whole song (Funny Bone) and not just a "small part"? You were really smoking on that song!
How about the fact that he has the great Clarence 'Gatemouth' Brown playing rhythm guitar behind him!
Billy Cox also in a lot of those shows.
great video....Freddie certainly was the "King" on stage there.....or should i say "Boss"......:-)
do you knowthe year of the recording....??...would be interesting....i love it.....

That performance was recorded in 1966
Another good video there, Guitar Pilgrim. A question for you. Are you still using Native Instruments Guitar Rig for your amp sim? Thx
Yes I do
Listen to Peter Green playing 'Uranus' with Brunning Sunflower Blues Band from late '60s. album. Peter obviously borrowed the melody. 🎸😎
T-Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker and Albert Collins also weared guitar strapped on right shoulder.
It's a banjo thing.
If you really want to play Freddie King, use your ears and transcribe yourself 😇. This is how you know you are on the right journey to become an accomplished guitarist.
That guitar is awesome you said it was light too that les paul did you get it online.?
Do some Freddy hideaway!
Cool 👍👍
Thank again! Enough to try in this video. Btw: like your shirt! Wij houden van oranje!😀
wow that's great
Please can you make a video too on John Scofield ?!!
BB King also played with the strap over his right shoulder. I think he and Freddie did that so it was not resting on their big bellies.
Also, you get a great sound out of that Les Paul. What amp were you using?
I think Alvin Lee of Ten years After was a Freddie fan too.
Freddie King a beast (underrated)
Ffs, Freddie King was far from underrated. So underrated that a whole generation of guitarists have tried to emulate him.
Underrated??? I don’t know of any guitarist that doesn’t consider Freddie King one of the greatest ever
@@vincepetrovic8700 I meant quite unknown to the general audience, compared to others
Thanks god now I can play some of his stuff… sorry more please this I can learn 😁
I love this and have admired that "Beat!!!!!" videos for decades. Can't listen to your buzzy rock sound though.
Hey! What do you think about doing your next "can you play this riff" vid on the great white buffalo riff from ted nugents/the amboy dukes ? Great riff, not too hard, but still... needs à bit of technique and i dont think many youtubers did à vidéo on it !
I hear that Mary had a little lamb in there
Albert Collins used to wear his guitar strap that way too
Albert Collins wore his guitar like that too.😝
Sweet
I saw a video on here, where a young Lady (am I allowed to call her that?) Played a crisp, super clean 'San Ho Zay!'
Got it funny bone 👍
If you ever wanna do a video on Peter Green, you can use my Les Paul for the out of phase sound. Freddie is of course King !
