Last week I went to the - Paris - Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth concert. I brought my father who just LOVES classical music, it's what he has been listening to since he was young, probably because it's what his father was listening to as well ? He was surprised when he saw Orchestre Colonne would be playing with a choir (apparently the best or 2nd best french private orchestra ? Why would an orchestra with such a reputation play this ?). He also already knew and played To Zanarkand and he already heard about Nobuo Uematsu from me, but he never got deeper than that. He loved the concert, and was surprised when some cosplayer showed up. But then people went "Ooooh !" when they announced what the next piece would be and there was a standing ovation at the end, he was not expecting people to be this invested in classical music! He probably didn't think modern classical music could be this loved by young people. After that he asked me questions about the franchise, I think he might finally get into it x) I'm glad people are acknowledging how powerful the emotions and memories that are tied to this music are. By the way the concert was full, all seating taken, the room had 3.5k seats. The 2nd representation that night was full as well, so 7k+ people experienced live FF7 music that day !
That's awesome. The closest my parents ever got was my mother chancing upon a Hans Zimmer Song from Call of Duty on the local "Culture" Radio. By no means lesser, but Zimmer's work on CoD is very much programmatic.

I've never been a huge fan of the rendition of One Winged Angel you showed. Its not bad, but not having the higher tones for the choir really takes out a lot of unsettling feelings from the track, in addition to the whole Jenova is his "mother" and a space calamity set on destroying the world.
That's the first time I've heard this version, and it does feel somewhat lacking. For example, it doesn't have the descending bass notes right after the "Sephiroth!" lines starting at 43:58 (probably by a tuba), I had to play them in my head. But I guess it's understandable Marco doesn't want to play the same couple of versions over and over in every such video.

GRIS is about a woman's grief after losing her mother and in the climax of the game where GRIS Pt.2 plays is when she is finally, through all the grief, is able to hear her mother's voice again and it helps her pick up all her pieces and move on. I wholeheartedly agree with your belief in pushing for some sort of mixed programming to draw the parallels and provide the context for live performances with video game music. On that note. Perhaps you can even give some clues for those in your audience and throughout the internet, and maybe some concert hall managers, by doing some videos comparing classical/opera pieces with game music that have a good fit or might feel good together? How can I better connect to classical music? I have the impression that this channel is, among other goals, trying to bridge the gap between modern orchestral music and an appreciation for classical music, so I have started to listen to classical music like from vivaldi or bach. I love video game music, and I resonate so strongly with some modern orchestral works like from Ryuichi Sakamoto or Hans Zimmer. However, when I listen to 19th century classical music or earlier, it doesn't ignite the same reaction in me. I feel like I'm immature in my musical tastes and not understanding what I'm listening to. What kind of mindset or perspective or actions would you recommend for me to better connect with older orchestral works?
There's no problem if you don't like or get Classical Music, not everyone likes the same, one of the main reasons OST work for you is that you link the music with the context of the game so is easier to "get it", i mean i love Black Metal and for me is like one of the best genres that is there becaus eof how versatile it can be and that you can show every emotion possible in the genre, but i undertand why people don't get it because not everyone will like it, so no worries if you don't like Classical Music, but i believe that if you can make some classical sogs tp conect with something like i dunno, this song makes you feel like when you were driving home and it was raining i belive you could enjoy more, you just need to find the correct songs.
Like any music just listen to stuff and figure out what you like, it's not a competition and it doesn't matter what other people are into if you aren't. Not that you need to count things out, maybe going back once you're more familiar will bring a new perspective. One listening "tip" I guess, try to truly listen to what is going on in each individual part. It's something you have to practice a bit, but you can do it it with any music. I'll echo what the other two replies said and say that yeah, it's alright if you don't get into it. I guess the question is, what resonates with you about modern pieces by the composers you mentioned? Melodies, harmonies, instruments used, overall vibe? Those are just a few suggestions, but whatever your answer is can help you with exploring more music. Vivaldi is a great starting point in my opinion. His music is usually super energetic, fast paced, and straight to the point. Bach a little less so, he's a bit more calculated about things like melodies and how they interact with each other in a given piece, but still great of course. I assume you know this already, but classical is a genre that spans hundreds of years. There are tons of sub-genres within each century, and even within decades. Part of enjoying and understanding classical is just listening to a lot of it to find your niche. You might also find it interesting to understand the historical context behind certain pieces or time periods. VGM and movie scores have clear context, classical often does not. Have Sakamoto and Zimmer ever mentioned their classical influences? If they have, listen to what they like, and maybe even try to pick out what they liked enough to use in their own music.
Older music tends to take its time and play with high concepts a bit too much. You need to learn how to listen, if you want to get the best experience. I find that programmatic music that tells a story is a bit more approachable than abstract sonatas. I would suggest trying to listen to Johannes-Passion by Bach. It follows the Passion of Christ directly from the gospel, so you can anticipate the story and appreciate the emotional depth in the music. The opening chorus Herr Unser Herrscher is an absolute treat of buildup and suspense.

Man Bloodborne music doesn't get old, especially this one. Have you listened to all of them ? I know there are some I don't remember you covering on your channel like The Witches of Hemwick OST or The One Reborn OST. Also it is so great to see new faces from a world so far away from mine (and yet so close) having a blast discovering and enjoying video game musics. This would have been inconceivable back when I was a kid 20 years ago, game music has come a long way since then. It would seem I have a taste for opera I am not aware of, is there a piece you'd recommand to get into it ?

I think you should take a look at Wolfenstein: The New Order's OST. It's phenomenal and I'd argue is better work than Doom's. Much more stuff to chew on than just "NOISE!" Also has an awesome almost folky style guitar mixed in with the other electronic and metal and stuff. Ransacked, I Learned How To Fly, The Kreisau Circle and others are phenomenal.
I wish Marco would play other Doom soundtracks and not "the only thing they dear is you" every time. There are many more interesting and imo better ones. Like there's some great DLC soundtracks like "Immora" which might be the craziest Doom soundtrack ever

Like there's some great DLC soundtracks like "Immora" which might be the craziest Doom soundtrack ever
I personally will always shout out Vega Core is a brilliant use of melodic bass. It is a wall of sound that still feels so raw and powerful without just being loud
the DLC music is so underrated! blood swamps might be one of my favourite in the whole game
