  • I bought a $60 (on sale) high back skiff seat from West Marine and a $40 swivel mount from West Marine then took them with my Solo Skiff to my Dad's garage workshop and mounted the seat by drilling 4 holes into the top of the Solo Skiff center hatch and securing the swivel mount with stainless steel bolts, washers, and wing nuts. The seat and mount can come on and off to allow the Solo Skiff to be loaded into the back of my truck for my travels and adventures

So grateful for this experience and to be able to share it with all the viewers. Thanks for all the love and support D. You are OG master SD Fish and Sips subscriber and I will always cherish that.

      Thanks for watching! La Jolla is great in the summer. Try and catch big greenback mackerel and then slow troll flyline (no weight) along 90' depth line in front of the big white condo building. That was always my best bet for kayak fishing. Good luck! Tight lines!

    its going to be a lot nicer not having to reach over your shoulder to steer. Since rock fishing is closed you should get out on the skiff in humble bay for halibut!

      For sure! I'm focused on halibut for 2021 and going to look into Humbolt Bay. When in your opinion is the best time of the ear to fish for halibut in humbolt bay and what is your favorite bait/rigs/techniques to use? @@SDFishandSips I’ve only fished there a few time but it seems super productive every time I go compared to California’s other bays. I’ve fished it from shore with buck tails and white curly tails with good luck and also fished charters with live bait. @@SDFishandSips Yeah, I just ordered a 1/2” thick 12”x12” sheet of HDPE off of Amazon to modify and use as a transom saver for my solo skiff. You probably wouldn’t need 1/2”, but I plan on making a 1/4” recess for the circle pads on the clamps to sit into so they don’t shift/slide on the transom.

    • @SDFishandSips
      @SDFishandSips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes Ryan that was probably me. I fished Friday and Saturday, launching Mission bay and making my way up to La Jolla. Didn't catch anything and never saw any yellowtail under the birds. Did see some whales and played with the dolphins. The dolphins love the solo skiff and will swim and jump right next to it. The yellowtail can blow up any day. You never know when but you gotta be in the right place at the right time to make it happen. Very challenging. Hopefully it pays off by the end of this month before I leave for Texas. The next day I might fish is Tuesday. Get out there!

    Looking good! Did you mount it offset or centered? I have a swivel seat waiting to be installed, but debating on offsetting vs centering it.

    • @markr9312
      @markr9312 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I started with my swivel seat installed offset due to watching videos of other guys on their Solo's and seeing how they sat while driving then. After having it for seven months, I have remounted my swivel base to be centered but slightly forward on the hatch. I feel that I am more balanced in the center when doing surf launching. Surf launching is the main area that I noticed that being off to one side was not the best when the Solo Skiff would go over a cresting wave and jumped down the back side of the wave. Hope that helps.

    • @SDFishandSips
      @SDFishandSips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Can the seat lock in to to be stable while your at full speed or does that really matter?

    • @SDFishandSips
      @SDFishandSips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Danny. The seat can not lock and it does matter. It is way less stable and more tippy feeling especially while turning. I have the Hobie Standing H bar to hold onto which I have been using a lot for spinning around with the swivel seat and also for standing and casting. If no H bar I would recommend a rope tied the front handle to grab and hold for extra support.

    How do you have your gas cane connected under your seat because I thought about doing the same thing but everybody keep saying yeah might catch on fire

    • @SDFishandSips
      @SDFishandSips  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the gas can that is made by Tohatsu inside with a rubber line that goes through a hole cut into the back bottom of the center hatch then the line has a hand prime pump then a little moraine then connects to the motor. i have not had any issues with fires.
