    I am so excited that you have discovered weaving! I am a long-time weaver and have been dyeing my own yarns for the purpose of weaving for a few years now. At the beginning of the pandemic I discovered your channel and that was a gamechanger! I went back into your old videos and watched every single one and I never miss a new one. You have been the main influence in my dyeing journey. I have since started my own YT channel where I dye yarn and weave it into projects for both my rigid heddle and floor looms. You remain a big influence in my dye studio, so thank you, Rebecca. Happy weaving!

    Sock planks make incredible weaving yarns. you can get some lovely ombres and fades. May I suggest a double blank that you dye with Wiltons violet that you dip dye/ break. then when you weave you'll end up with something akin to your colour mixing videos where each intersection of threads will give you a unique visual colour blend.

      I really really want to play with gradients with weaving! This is absolutely on my list.

  • @fallgirl07

    Yay, I’m so happy when I see more weavers! There are warp calculators that you can use to calculate needed yarn yardage, width, length, etc.
    Depending on what yarn I’m using/what I’m trying to achieve, I usually warp from the center outwards to make sure the warp is centered.
    I can’t wait to see your hand dyed yarn as a scarf! I love seeing the difference between a knitted scarf and a woven one with the same yarn. Great job!!!! 👏🏾

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ooo a knit swatch vs a woven one would be a fun video idea! I think my next project will not be with hand dyed yarn yet (mainly because I think I want to dye something specifically for weaving, lol. Or dip into my hand spun.)

  • @chrispe82

    Absolutely gorgeous!!
    Quick tip for new weavers & working out if you have enough yarn.
    Yardage divided by length of project = warp threads.
    So 180 (yarn length) divided by 2 (scarf length) = 90 warp threads.
    Personally I do a 2 metre warp length for scarves because you always lose some over all length due to the tie offs.
    Yes it looks like a balanced weave (equal space with the warp & weft). Warp faced means the warp shows more & weft face is means the weft shows more.

      ooo this is helpful! It didn't occur to me to try to use math to figure out how wide the scarf would be... but this is something I'll try to do next time!

    Hey :) Long time watcher, not a commenter. Just wanted to say I have been weaving since 2005 and you did great for your first project after mug rugs :) I can't wait to see your next one.
    The sides will always pull in while weaving - thats normal and not a fault. You'll know if you start pulling way too tight on the sides because it will buckle. The tension issues will mostly be resolved when you try again and dont have to fix the direction (cause you did front to back instead of back to front). There's a lashed tie on that is excellent for sorting any remaining tension issues.
    Love that you just jumped in AND That you showed your mistakes - its such a powerful teaching tool because ppl can be daunted if they cant do it perfect for the first time.

    This scarf is gorgeous! I’m not a weaver, but I think you should be able to even out the warp tension a bit by easing/adjusting the tight warp strands by pulling from the excess waste yarn at the ends. Sometimes I adjust baggy or tight stitches in knitting by gently tugging on the stitches to even out the tension. It should work for weaving as well. Great little scarf…I’m excited to see what project is next for your loom. 👍🏻🧶

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've read that some people will use hooks with weights to help if something is too loose. The bigger issue was that I had one thread too tight but that seemed to even out with wet finishing.

    @janesmith4617 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You did a really good job, Rebecca! It's really common for new weavers to mistakenly put their warp on back to front, so don't worry about that: you fixed it really well. I wonder if you'd get less draw-in if you put a little more tension onto your warp while weaving. And the floats you showed could easily be repaired once you've taken it off the loom by weaving in a snippet of yarn in their place, then cutting out the float. I prefer to lash my warp onto the front beam, rather than tying it on directly as I find it easier to correct the tension then, so it might be worth your while trying that; and remember that if you do have tension problems with individual warp threads, you can always hang a small weight off them at the back beam (I use S hooks, you don't need much). I am sure you'll be weaving faultlessly in no time.

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had some tension issues with the warp for sure - mostly the one edge that was too tight but I think that came from having to re-tie things. I'm excited to explore more! I think with my next project I might try to correct errors with floats. (at least big ones, lol.

    • @janesmith4617
      @janesmith4617 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChemKnitsTutorials If you have those tension problems again, instead of tying your warp threads directly onto the beam, tie them into little bundles (I usually tie mine up in bundles of about an inch across, according to the heddle I'm using) then tie a long length of scrap yarn to the beam, thread it through the first bundle then wrap it round the beam, and so on. It means you can adjust the tension of each bundle really easily. I find it much easier to get a good tension this way than tying on direct.
