    Before cutting your sleeve material to length, try wrapping a piece of masking tape around the sleeve at your cut point, then cut through the center of the tape, leaving wrapped tape on each cut end. This will prevent fraying and make it easier to feed into the heat shrink tube...much like a shoe lace. Cutting through the center of the tape leaves two ends prepped and ready to go. Great video btw...going to make some for my sibs before our annual family fishing trip! Cheers from Mizzou!

    For my store-bought socks, I bought some elastic bands for sewing, ran it through the weave, then tied a knot to form a loop. It's long enough to stretch from the end of the sock and hook on the reel handle. That keeps the sleeve from slipping off.

      Thanks for watching Johny, some anglers use them when they are traveling. When you have 5 or 6 rods and you want yo lash them together to through them in a car the socks protect the rods.

    Thanks for the video. I don't use rod socks on my rods in my boat very often but what I do like to do is to have my rods completely covered while they're not in use, in my shop. I don't leave my reels on my rods. I had been having them covered with custom sewn cloth covers, but this might be the ticket now.

    Since day one I have cut down my rod socks. I always put a small zip tie on the end then put a longer length of shrink wrap tubing on it. I don't fully shrink the shrink tube, only the part where the tie is. This allows the tip of the rod to settle in the shrink tube keeping it from ever poking through the mesh.

    What size diameter for bait casting, spinning rods?

    • @indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997
      @indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997  หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can either use 1in or 1 1/4in and make the sleeve short so they don'tgo down past the larger guides on the but section of the rod. I like this method when storing your rods in rod lockers on your boat. I will also use a bait wrap if you are using a bait with treble hooks. You may need to go up to a 2in sock material to make a full length cover. I like the tight fitting socks, you can easily fit 2 rods in each boat storage tube and they are also easer to lash together when bundling them when going on a trip. Thanks for watching.

    • @indeeponthedeltawithstevec5997

      The 1 in will work fine for rods with reg size eyes. I usually keep my socks to about 5 ft so ithe sock never goes over the last guide. Same thing with spinning rods , I go with ii1/2 in but that will still not fit over the last guide so you can measure and get the sock to go up just to the last guide. Hope that helps.

I am working on a method to fuse 1 and 2 in togather so you have a nice tight fit rot the first 2/3 of the rod and a bit more room for the larger guides near the reel. If you have ideas let me know.
