I've always been a St. Croix fan, but I bought my first NRX+ after your original review of the NRX and now I'm addicted! The NRX+ 872 is a freaking powerhouse! From 6lb bass to 26in Walleyes, it handles them with ease. I have no trouble pinning and holding fish at any distance/depth with even the stoutest hooks! The rod rating is misleading I feel like. I fish it with 3/8oz, 1/2oz, and 5/8oz jigheads/plastics in the heavy main channel current of the Mississippi River a lot, and it's perfect for those weights! I have a Stradic FL 2500 on mine and with heavier weight heads it really gets the baits out there a long ways! I can see the struggles of casting 1/4oz and under. I use my 822syr for that.
Thanks for your info, i picked up the nrx + 872 and really loving it! No prob with small neko rigs in shallow even and on banks, no problem. Run #10 braid to 8# flouro even with my Tatula Lt..
I like watching your equipment review videos and thank you for putting in the time to put them together. I sold my NRX 852 & 872 and got NRX+ in both rods. I agree with your statement about the real seats, that’s what made me upgrade to the + version.
Great review of some amazing rods. I actually preferred the old NRX spinning rod handle. I think I am in the minority on that opinion. The old BSR852 GLX is still my favorite spinning rod of all time though.
That +872s BOMBS casts it’s crazy. Now I need to get that 852s. I own three pluses right now two of which you recommended and very happy with. I do own the 822dsr as well which I know you’re not a super fan of but I love it.
I have the 842s nrx+ and it is as close to a perfect 7'm spinning rod as you can get. Slight knock with braid to fluorocarbon cause of the recoil guides but otherwise it is amazing.
Super timely video, as I just made the transition in my arsenal to NRX rods. Picked up an 872S picked up two 852 s's and just picked up and 822S. I'm pairing down the number of rods. I have an increasing the number of high-end quality rods that have fish with. I told my wife you're to blame for this transition.
Love my Nrx + 872s thanks to you man. I have a question for you. Right now I use shimano expride 7’2 ml for Ned rig but I feel like it’s more of a medium action. And what rod would you recommend for Ned rig fishing using light jig heads?
@@davidrauschenbach6871 I also use the rod to throw the Megabass Karashi. It is a 3/16 oz with smalls treble hooks. It has no problem getting the small bait out there & it is soft enough for the small treble hooks. It still has plenty of power in the lower end of the blank for the larger fish.
Fantastic review! Although I have the 902S SJR (because I wanted the 7‘6“ model), I have a very similar experience as you discussed. I can throw very far though, because of my rod length. I paired mine with a Vanford 3000. What do you pair both of your rods with? 👏🏿👏🏿🎣
I have got my 852S coupled with a Vanquish FC 3000 MHG😅😅 My 872S is coupled with a Certate 3000D-C.😅😅. Both set-ups are chosen because they balance that rod really nice.😂😂
I always wanted one because nrx is known for sensitivity. Which model is better for full sized and compact jigs up to 5/8oz? Can be either casting or spinning.
I was wondering the same thing. How do the following compare as far as power, action, quailty, and best lure use. I don’t have any expride spinning rods yet but currently have the 852 and 872 based on your videos. Really curious what others think of the 842. Seems to me that it could be more versitile than the 852 which is plenty stiff. 842 vs 872 vs expride 7”2” ML 852 vs expride 7’ M
So I found someone who has a old NRX but brand new and he’s asking for $400. The downside is that I spoke to a rep from G loomis and the warranty won’t carry over to me. So the question is should I buy the old NRX or keep on saving and buy the new NRX plus that way I can take advantage of the warranty
Both great rods- but I'll take an 842S and an 902S in the SJR over both of them 95% of the time, especially the 852S (it's actually too fast). With SpiralX and MTD now, the graphite itself is so fast reacting and recovering, that the fast action of the SJR's is more than fast enough, and more forgiving, especially on smallmouth. I do wish there was a SJR 872S to split the difference though.
Thinking of picking up the 840S, for very light rapala’s and 3/32 oz micro jigs. Can you toss those on the 821 NRR? Expride may be to stiff to load the light baits.
@@davidrauschenbach6871sorry did not see this. I prefer the 822s DSR for trebles but it could be done, the NRR is closer to the JWR tho in action i think.
@@PunchFishing yep, it’s super annoying during a nice relaxing day out fishing or when setting the hook to have that styrofoam type sound. It actually feels hollow somewhat.
I have a E6X version of the 852s jwr and I think it’s great. Can’t imagine getting more sensitivity from a nrx, but will probably make the jump to find out. I’m more interested in the Ned rig rod though due to it being under 7 feet long.
@@PunchFishingI know you have the 902 but the plus version fixes the issues you have with the older version with the shake test. The spiral x helps the longer rods even more. Especially the 901
I like Edge rods way better than G-Loomis, I just can’t stand cork handles anymore, looks cheap and on the other hand Edge Silver Widow series handle is work of art!!

do you know the distance from the reel seat to the 1st guide?

how accurate is this rod? when casting? I have a Expride, that I feel is pretty accurate when casting. how do you think it wold compare to the Expride
Two of my absolute favorites. Great reviews.
Love my 852 + spinning and casting. Aldebaran with852 casting is so nice.
What are you use the 852c for ? Bait wise
Hmm, sounds like I need to add the 852S, shakey head is something I really want to work on with the Mega Live.

Which NRX do you recommend for hover shot rigs in 1/8-3/8 range? Using light wire size 1 jig hook.
Which one of these 2 would you recommend for shore fluke?
it would be great if you did an updated review of the conquest! Greetings from a fan from Brazil!
Just paired my 842S Conquest with a 2023 Vanquish 3000, just wow.
If you were throwing 3/8 ball heads with a 3” swimbait and a neko rigged 5” senko which one would you go with?
You convinced me to order my first Loomis rod! Can't wait to throw my twin power on it and smash some smallies soon.
Punch, you are totally correct. Add the NRX+ CRR to the mix and that is as good as it gets.
I got one. I'll do a separate video on it.
What is CRR?
