we all knew what you meant! Good stuff. Kages are truly fantastic reels if you can find them used. I just hate that all daiwa reels come with the deep spools. Such overkill for bass fishing.

Great video Punch!. The 17' Exsence C3000MHG (7.0oz) is my favorite Bass reel of all time, especially for all my soft plastics. I liked it so much, I purchased another and a couple spare spools for them. It's just That good. I also absolutely love the 19' and 23' Vanquish's over the Vanfords. I use my Vanquish's for Trout, Panfish and Bass. I also love my Zillion. Daiwa hit a home run with that reel although I still love my Met's. I have the 2020 U.S. model with the JDM 2020 spool it it and it makes a difference when casting. I also really love the 22' Met. Shallow and the new 23' Met. 100. The Stradic FL and the older Tatula LT are still great reels. I've been holding off on the Bantam just because of the weight but I purchased an XG handle to put on the HG version so maybe I'll have to get it after your review. Thank's for the info.

I don't know why more people (and I'm talking reasonably experienced people) don't go the JDM route for their rods and reels. On the whole, IME, the JDM is just better made than the export equivalent. I don't really know why for sure, but with Japan with almost everything they make, the best stuff stays at home in Japan and doesn't get exported.
24 Steez tw 100 out on JDM. Just order one the other day. I'm hoping it finally out preforms the Antares. So we can see Shimano answer back to the Steez.
Love the zillion, love the vanford and love the Shimano Exsence. To me I think daiwa for casting and shimano for spinning.

nice video! Certate and up are clearly on another level in Daiwa's spinning line up. Vanquish excels in lighter line open water applications and really deserve a try. my experience with Stella is that I find myself like it more over time and I don't like the color of Exist at all lol. and I totally agree 200$ reels are more than sufficient for bass fishing these days, but the ownership of the best offers so much more than just catching the fish
You should checkout the Shimano Tranx150. One of my favorite cranking reels. I was surprised by how it out casts most of my other high end or mid range reels. For spinning i love the Exsence, super smooth, crazy smooth drag and pairs with the Whipsnake & Wind Buster excellent. And for Daiwa, it all about that Zillion SV 22. Just got the new tatula 100 recently, dude the thing kicks ass for the price... its quickly become one of my favorite reels if not my favorite
I love the mentanium and it’s absolutely one of my favorites but I completely agree with you about it being finicky as heck.
My 2020 US Met. is the only finicky one. The 22' Met. Shallow and the 23' Met. 100 are fantastic for me. I put a 2020 JDM spool in my 2020 US Met. and it made a world of difference when casting.
Great stuff. I agree with you on the Stella. I get that "meh" feeling with it. The reel you need to try is the Vanquish. It blows the Stella and the Exist away for far less money. I also had the same weird knock on a few Daiwa spinning reels. From another platform I was given the advice to change the handle out with a double handle and a balancer from Gomexus. I am not one to change out parts on reels but this worked. Also, I was not big on the double handle at first but I tend to like it now.

Totally agree. I got turned onto Punch way back when only had a few hundred subscribers. Tons of ways to present unboxing and gear vids, but Punches way is very congruent of the way I think.

The new Tatula 100 is phenomenal since they put the Hyper drive digigear in it. I like it almost as much as my zillion svtw 1000. Zillion is my favorite reel and I told you that you would enjoy it

I'll be doing a video on the Ultima, but I got it late last fall and only got to use it for a couple weeks. I need to play with it more this spring then I'll post something about it.
I wonder if you should try another Shimano Met, maybe the JDM. I am not a supper fan boy of any (with the exception of the Aldebaran MGL). But I have a Met DJM with the 70 spoon. I love it. it seems just as easy as a Daiwa.

The best rods, all in all for everything, you'd do a lot worse than just sticking with the NRX line. I love all of mine.
Fun stuff as always punch im a shimano guy and i wouldnt change my metaniums and aldebarans for any thing.But thats just me ,they fit my hands so i keep it simple.
I am basically a Daiwa Baitcaster / Shimano Spinning guy. I got the Metanium and wish I hadn't, it just feels like a "dead" reel, oh well, live and learn. Right on re: the Zillion. Great review, I was getting ready to pull the trigger on an Exsense... Think I'll just get 2 more Vanfords instead. Thanks for all your content!

Hey punch, love the reels. But are there any issues with keeping fluro on your baitcasters during the off season.
Not at all, but I tend to use "good quality" line. You can get at least 2 (maybe 3) seasons out of good line. I think people replace their line more often than they need to.
The Luvias
is a sleeper and gem. A little overkill for bass fishing but I absolutely love mine.
I have 4 now, and can't see a need to spend any more on a spinning reel.

Question, I have a couple Stradic's but I am thinking about buying a couple Vanfords. You mentioned the Stradic is better in the cold. You being in Minnesota and I being in N.E. Ohio, Your cold is insane compared to ours. When I'm fishing lake Erie & it's cold, that means it's roughly 30 degrees not counting wind and lake temp is 40+. How would the Vanford do in my cold & would it matter which one I used?
Would you use the curado m to throw heavier baits like A-rigs and glide baits like the Spro KGB Chad Shad?

I like Luvias airity FC LT C2500SXG it’s awesome reel I like the spool and the bail graphite I don’t know why daiwa didn’t keep it the. Graphite and the gold color it’s just plane now it ok but I wish they would have kept the style
I'm very simple when it comes to spinning reels, I just use Stradics in sizes 2500-4000 mostly because I wade rivers for smallmouth and they dont die like almost every other reel I have tried does. They also hold up excellent to inshore saltwater which I do several times a year. I am also currently running all FLs but I am hoping to try an FM this year just because I need another 2500 size reel.

I have all these same BC reels minus the steez 2 and zillion. Im still rocking the OG TD Zillion. I got the OG Steez for free so I got that instead of the new zillion.
I’m going to agree on all your points except the main take away about the BC reels. I don’t have huge hands and I love holding an almost weightless set up so my metanium with a well balanced 7 foot rod is amazing. The steez is no fuss and that’s your choice is you want to just fish. The met to me just feels more smooth palms better and casts further. Exactly like you said, the Met is like a hot model wife, she’s going to be higher maintenance and only does one thing great. Don’t change things up on the Met or she’ll blow up on you.
I seriously recommend the newest Shimano Vanquish. I imported one from Japan and it's amazing!
Having an 8 ft cranking rod throwing 1/2 ounce to 1 ounce crankbaits which baitcaster do you prefer with all reels you have had for reliable distance.
You didn't mention that the Curado M has an MGL spool, which is why it casts farther than the 200K.
Stella is just a stronger and more durable reel than any Daiwa, I pair my C3000SDH with Megabass Destroyer TS 775 for heavy duty applications such as chatterbait, spinnerbait, deep crank etc.
I've been using a Daiwa ss whisker 1600 of old. And I found a new one. I think the Japanese built one was probably a better reel when it was new. But after 30 years. It's tired. 😅 The new one is nicer enough. I got a Procyon. I haven't used it a whole lot. But I am loving it. My son just got himself a Fuego. I think for NY Susquehanna smallies, these 2 will be awful hard to beat. Though I will likely get a stradic/vanford. Just because I'm doing well financially now and I like buying nice stuff. So yeah. I'm not brand owned. I like nice stuff. Speaking of which, I found some nice Abu Garcia Gold Max 3s of 1980/90s vintage. I've always wanted them since I was in high school. And I'll be trying them out this summer too.
I'm not in it to make a living. I just like using nice stuff and getting more.
I do appreciate this video because of the price point honesty. I thought about the steez and met/aldebaren/Antares. But I likely won't now. I'll stick with 200-400 dollar reels till I win a lottery. Lol.

I owned the Whisker in the 700 and 1300 back in the day and they were great reels for their time. I changed up when Shimano came out with the Pearl White Stradic 2000. Caught thousands of bass on those reels.
I only wish Stella comes in bait runner reel too and twins power

Great review, I used to disagree with you on the 20 met take, granted I have the jdm version, but anymore I find myself not enjoying the narrow spool and also the profile, its sits a bit high. In my opinion the the 16 met frame has to be one of, if not the best shimano frame ever. At least its my favorite shimano platform.

Just trying to add to this conversation. The new Vanqish is the best spinning reel I have ever owned. I have 2 Exist's, multiple twin powers. Casting reels. TW had some Steez BFS reels 3-5years ago? Nothing has come close to that. I have a Alderberan BFS. You would throw it away for this JDM reel. The Newer Bantams are fantastic. I love the Tattula P/F. A Matanium is my go to all around. I love the Tranx for swim baits.
I have a Tatula P/F and I'm kicking myself for forgetting to put it into this video. It's a very nice reel!! I really need to get a Vanquish at some point.
Zillion definitely is the best priced and good reel on daiwa side ! On the shimano spinning my twin power and Stella are on my 9/6 ML and 9/0 L dialuna surf rod is my lake trout and cape cod light setups!! On the stradic and vanford definitely the best on the freshwater shimano line !!

In the late 50's Mitchell had an oscillating movement similar to new Stella, Mitchell 302, I still have my dad's
Why no Curado DC? For a sub $300 reel I think it is hard to beat. The DC technology really helps to reduce backlashes when casting into the wind. I am also able to cast really far with it as well.
I'm just personally not into DCs, I've had a couple of them but they don't stick around too long. It's just a personal preference. They are very cool reels.

The Certate doesn’t happen to be a 3000CXH does it?
If it has a “c” in the model - that means it has a compact body - they use a 2500 size body on any 3000CXH
The new 2024 Certate doesn't have a shallow spool option, but they may add one later on. Daiwa typically does that.
That’s not what I meant haha. You were comparing how much smaller your Certate is to your Ballistic. The reason the body is smaller is likey due to the fact that the Certate is a “3000CXH” which if it has a C in the model # that refers to “compact” and they will put a 2500 body with a 3000 spool to achieve this appearance of a smaller frame on a 3000 reel.
I owned vanford and stradic fl. I agreed stradic is like tacoma. And i found another reel similar to stradic i got it brand new shimano ultegra for $90 less than stradic. Its smoother than stradic. With same durability.

I believe they are pretty much the same thing. Different paint jobs.
Video request: Can you do a short (say 30 minutes) video of brake-point VALUE rod and reels. It would be great for newer/intermediate fisherman who are just starting to want to move up from the $100 WalMart combo stuff. Like you, I buy the high end, but for the value guy it would be cool to have a video that really addresses the value cross-over point for rods and reels. It would probably go over well.

I'm NOT a swimbait guy, so I'm the wrong guy to ask that question!
Like you, I'm totally bougie on my gear, but for bass fishing does it really make a difference? No, it doesn't. Does the high end gear really put even one more fish in my boat, no it doesn't. For me, I just appreciate the quality and for, being an old guy, higher end/lighter gear makes for an easier day of fishing. OTOH, is the ease of use worth the extra dollars? No, it isn't. At the end of the day, I think you just have to just really LIKE having higher end gear. Pragmatically, it doesn't make a damn. To even notice a dramatic difference in rod/reels that would be evident by even a rookie fisherman, you would have to go from something like what we use and directly compare it to a Quantum reel mounted on an Ugly stick to appreciate any real difference.
You mentioned Jacob Wheeler and he is the guy I always use (or KVD in the old days) to illustrate my favorite maxum about rods and reels and fishing "success" (to a certain extent tackle and baits as well) and its a saying that has been around forever. That phrase being, "Its not about the arrow, it's about the Indian". Nowhere in the professional fishing world is that better illustrated than with Jacob Wheeler. Often I will be watching Wheeler fishing an MLF tournament when it pops into my head about how frustrating it must be to fish with the garbage he has to use. Of course, he is being paid to use and pimp that crap, so I would use it too if I was getting paid. The use of crap gear doesn't seemed to effect his success any. Another illustration I use is saying that you could put me in a $150,000 bass boat with all the latest gear and electronics (and the knowledge to use them) and put somebody like Wheeler in a canoe, paddle and a cane pole and we fish in random "Lake X' known to neither of us. I can pretty much guarantee at the end of the day, Wheeler comes out on top because he's just that much better.
Pardon the flight of ideas here, but that also reminded me of an incident years ago when Michael Iaconelli was fishing in a tournament and broke his rod over his knee (yea, he was still trying to create his persona to carve out his marketing schtick back then), Anyway, on all the old bass fishing forums, tons of people commented (good for Ike, right?) about how unsportsmanlike it was and he should be thrown off the tour, yada, yada. A couple of us A-holes countered making the joke that if we had to use the garbage he was using, we'd break it out of frustration too. Back then, IIRC it was the old Duckett "Ghost" rods. If anyone has ever been subjected to the torture of having to fish with one, you'd definitely get the joke.

I wouldn't consider getting Bantams to be settling.. they are better IMHO.

Great video Bri. I’m right there with you when it comes to the older tatulas. Thank God I held on to a bunch of them. I’ve had them for a while and very little knocking. Not sure if you have tried the Daiwa Procyon my lt yet, but it’s a very smooth reel. Almost as light as the tatula. I believe the 2500 weighs 6.5 oz , and the 4 that I’ve purchased have yet to knock. I’ve only had them for a full year, but I’m very satisfied. I have them on 2 steez, 1 poison adrena and an nrx. They work and balance well with all of them. 👍🏻Great vid and always. The new Exsence really frustrates me as a saltwater guy because they only come in the shallow spool M model. I have no interest in sacrificing 1/3rd of my line capacity for 10g of weight savings
Yeah it's a baffling real to me because the capacity doesn't seem to be what salt people want, but there seems to be a little too much tech in it for freshwater anglers to really take advantage of. I think bass fishing guys just like that it's expensive and all black.
@@PunchFishing if the 4000 had a more typical line capacity I would own several. But the 4000M is just not suitable for large Chesapeake striper and redfish.

The Certate G (2019) is dropping in price to 400€ (-80€). The New Certate (2024) is doing 435€ in Germany for a 3000 size. 😊😊. SWEET 😂
I need to buy another Zillion before they do the same thing they did with the Steez and "redesign" it along with jacking up the price.

Well, this must be one net positive for people, like yourself, that live above the arctic circle. The months of "hard water" at least gives you time to maintain/repair/organize/re-arrange/etc all of your gear.
Like you said, Shimano reels are not bad at all; however, I feel like you spend more money for less features. I’ll use the Stradic for example, you can get all the same features and more for half the price when you buy Lew’s, Quantum, and Okuma. Again, Shimano isn’t bad but you pay more.
I would take the longevity (and resale value) of a Shimano over Lews/Okuma/Quantum. Good luck killing a Stradic.
@@PunchFishing my buddy has. At least the last model. Those Hogane gears wear out fast. His wore out in about 3-4 seasons.
@@PunchFishing and the Lew’s Mach 2, Quantum Throttle and Energy will last forever. Hell I have had the Lew’s LZR Pro ($35) for 3 years and it still feels brand new and it’s as smooth as the Nasci.

@@kylemayer8486 The only Shimano Spinning reels that stick out to me is the 19' model Vanquish's, the 17' Exsence c3000mhg and my 19' Stella 1000. Which Daiwa spinners would you recommend? I own the old Tatula LT's in 1000, 2500, and 3000 and a Kage 2000. I like them.
@philipfalco7304 I have 6 luvias and 2 luvias airity. They're jdm reels and are everything you need and more. Light, monocoque and have beautiful drags.

THATS Why i buy Steez reels in ¥apan.😊 Saves 150-200€ each reel but i do scout the European Market (EDM) also. Thats how i got a New Steez CT SV for 500€ from Germany. 😂😂
The new (black) Twin Power looks good too and has some new features currently found on the Vanquish FC. I believe its got slow oscillating. BTW you Yankees never talk about the Vanquish (which is Such a great reel) I like it better ANY DAY than the Exsence A 😅

High end reels you don't need them! I have lots of 100.00 reels and a lot of them are 20 yrs old and still going strong. The key is maintaining them. Just cleaning and lubing them.

@@briansantostefano3625 you get all the new tech that’s in the Stella, you get a much smoother reel, and most importantly you get a reel with the least inertia, it’s ideal for stop and go techniques.
@@briansantostefano3625 You get all the tech from the Stella, tighter tolerances so it’s smoother, and most importantly the lowest inertia of any spinning reel, it’s noticeably the lightest to turn the handle which is best for stop start retrieves for things like drop shot and Ned rigs
