Excellent video - you pretty much covered the gamut here. Depending on the organization, SOC analysts are likely to have tiers of responsibilities - from triaging an alert queue to dedicated Incident Management roles where senior level analysts basically handle larger breaches, may specialize in malware analysis, etc. You also hit the nail on the head when it comes to the potential downsides. This role can be repetitive, stressful, and have chaotic operational tempo with oddball hours. Folks who gravitate toward this work and want to do it long term vs. using it as a stepping stone to learning other disciplines, need to be ok with this.

I am about to graduate the cyber security bootcamp at SMU. If you need structure and not sure what area you like this is a great bootcamp to go into. You get hands experience with numerous programs used in the field. One of the main jobs to obtain is SOC analyst through this bootcamp.

Staring at a computer screen all day sounds boring to me. I don't wanna be stuck in an office desk all day. I'm taking Cybersecurity in college and worried I'm gonna burn out quick. Considering changing my major to maybe PC repair or mobile development. Can anyone please give me some advice? I'm more a creative person so I'm not sure if I should change majors.
A SOC analyst is more or less a triage nurse and receptionist. All you do is advise others that the buck has arrived and pass it onto them, this will eventually be automated to within an inch of its life. In the meantime it's the perfect landing ground for these career-changing bootcamp graduates - who totally aren't all trained to an identical standard, totally aren't saturating the entry level, and are totally bossing the age old problem of there not being enough experienced senior talent and more difficult roles still left unfilled. Certainly not.
Is having it help desk skills necessary for transitioning into becoming an SOC analyst? I ask because all the research I've done on CyberSecurity has basically told me to get some help desk experience first. I work in public service as a judiciary clerk and am already familiar with assisting the public so I'm covered on the hospitality part of help desk. What do you suggest when it comes to requisite prior knowledge?

I just finished my cyber security technical certificate. I can do more later to make it a associate but I really like to work. I am just nervous about my first job. I been taught a little of different things networking , coding , network protocols , IT hardware software stuf f , some Linux and cloud computing . Just feel I need more hands on practice for it to sink in good. Is it still possible to work and train at this point ?
Yes you can work and train at the same time if your up for it. I work fulltime, go to school and also serve in the reserves. Make a schedule for yourself

Would recommend getting that Comptia network+ plus first to get that solid foundation before the network+
