Ahhh the old Castlewood Inn LOL. We stayed here back in 2008ish? Just like I remember. Not sure I would want to stay for a week but its good for a night or two. As always, enjoyed yalls video!
Oh My just saw this video a rather ironic video🙂when we left San Antonio, Texas and started back home it was later June , we had been there almost 2yrs and I wanted to come home to SC through the mountains and we stayed at Castlewood and stayed in the very room y'all stayed in was there 3 nights and I cleaned the trash on that lil knoll in front of room cigarette butts everywhere beer bottle caps, too. I remember the room being very clean , no bedspread issue at that time. The owner and family were very nice and I watched their children learn to garden with their Grandfather, and they were attentive to his teaching , that was fun to watch. As you Derrick, I remember this hotel in early 70's (71') great review!! I would stay there again, also. Price was reasonable and pet deposit also.😊 Thanks for sharing
You are very welcome. That was neat, that you not only stayed at the same motel, but that you got the same exact room. That's something else. I do wish they would do a better job at keeping trash off of that little area. They need to take pride in the looks of their property.
@@NCMemoryMakers I know I could not believe the irony of that when you showed the room I thought oh my goodness that's the room we stayed in coming back from Texas .🙂
Love maggie valley we have stayed here a couple of times the first time was a wonderful stay. The second one was ok only because the pool was dirty and the hot tub also so we didn't use either of those. So i hope they have done better with that. The golf place is really cool also.
@@NCMemoryMakers Thank you so much for telling me. I'm 73 & remember so well seeing that moving play every time we went to the mountains. Since no Vlogers have mentioned it, I thought it was just another Cherokee attraction that had fallen by the wayside.
@@pegdavenport7064 They still do it, as we ourselves went 2 years ago. We read this past weekend, that it starts this coming Saturday. I don't think they allow recording of the drama, which may be the reason there aren't a lot of videos on it.
As an asthmatic, I'm very sensitive to "leftover" cigarette smoke. But, that cigarette burn in the bedspread is scary! Obviously someone smoking in bed. Looked like a nice place overall, though. I like that they had a hot tub. Good video. God Bless!
@roberthunsucker5706 I just looked it up on Google, and it is permanently closed. I remember driving by and seeing the sign years ago, but hadn't really noticed it in a while.
Hi guys!! We were just in Maggie Valley and I think it's much more nicer than Cherokee unfortunately 😢...I was shocked to be honest ..Great job as always! Be safe! Hello from Gatlinburg TN 🐻🌄🏞️
We're smokers and don't like to see that either, so we 100 percent agree with y'all on the bedspread issue. Especially, again, like you said, if you've converted it to non-smoking, all traces should be gone of it once having been a smoking room. I actually prefer the older hotel rooms with the non-governed air conditioning systems. I'm in my later lady years and those hot flashes don't play. I need COLD air and these newer places, will only let it go down so far. My nephew is a police officer and my cousin is DEA, but aside from that, I was a newspaper reporter for almost 15 years and my beat was crime, so most of my closest friends are law enforcement and emergency services. Any place that doesn't back our police is no place we want to stay. I'm glad the other businesses rallied against that narrative. Cleanliness is the most important and I really, REALLY can't stand a litter bug. There's no excuse for it.
Yes, that place that closed down, was called "Our Place Inn". You should read online about how they (the law enforcement hating husband and wife) acquired the place. It used to be owned by a nice local family, but the clown set himself on fire somehow with a gas can and sued them, and ended up with the property. They brought their law enforcement hating agenda to the area, and had "ACAB" on their sign. I'm sure you know what that stands for. Anyway, that prompted the other motels in the area to voice support for the police. Then, the wife ended up dead under mysterious circumstances.
@@NCMemoryMakers people like that are the reason the world is the way it is right now. But that story makes my investigative reporter ears perk up. Seriously. I’d like to know more about the “suspicious” circumstances around her death. So glad they closed but also I’m sorry for the family they stole (because that’s what it sounds like to me) the property from. That’s awful.

Not sure about the pool, as I didn't really pay much attention to it. But yes, it is a decent place that could use a few improvements.
We love this place..
Nice honest review. Thanks for sharing.

I see you have a "UNTO THESE HILLS" t-shirt on. Does Cherokee still have that show?
Yes, it starts back up this coming Saturday

I have stayed at Castlewood several times in the past. I always had a comfortable stay.
Yes, it was comfortable, and reasonably priced.
Is the terry lynn motel still there. Lots of memories from the early 80s there

@@NCMemoryMakers okay and thanks for the reply. Loved going there in the summer and to ghost town.
Nice looking place and yes its been there for years its wild now that 32 in tv is small when we were kids it would have been big screen 😂
That is true. I still remember when motels mostly had the smaller ones about 19 inches, and not even flat screen.

@@NCMemoryMakers thanks!! About to start a six hour ride so this will give me something to do!
@@NCMemoryMakers I'm 68 years old. And, I have to confess that I had to look it up as I'd not heard of it before. Very sad.
Gosh, burns on the bedspread I wonder how clean the carpet is. Don't like carpet. 😢 We love The Cardinal Inn in MV. Great owners. Super clean rooms
😊😊
Didn't really notice anything with the carpet, like dirt on socks, or anything. The bedspread was a definite negative, though.
