I don’t care what genre of music you like, this guy is so talented you have to enjoy this song for the musical talent that is magically flowing through his fingers. I have to admit I have always enjoyed this song never heard it played like this. WOW!
Every time this guy plucks a string, it vibrates at a frequency in tune with the rest of the guitar. It takes great skill over many years to achieve this kind of perfection.
THANK YOU FOR POSTING !!! Doyle is quite the showman! He's good, and he know it! He does everything the way you've always wished it could sound like! He came to GraceWorks Church, in Chattanooga, TN., and took over our service, when our pastor was out sick. He provided the live music, and his daughter sang a few songs. In my own personal opinion, there is no one better on the Grand Ole' Opry ! He certainly has his own style! He plays his own back-up, his own second string, and, of course, lead guitar...and he puts it all together seamlessly! He's a mild mannered man, soft spoken, but not someone to under estimate! There's NO BETTER out there! Thanks Doyle!
Doyle, Missed seeing you & hearing your fabulous unique DD fingerstyle these past 4 years! No one can play this tune as well as you do! Grandpa Jones would be so proud of you! ☆☆☆☆☆
I never heard of this man... But now I did.. And I feel my musical interest just kicked up a notch.. Dang, he's excellent.. Thank you for uploading this...
I play this song almost the same way except not at the fast speed Doyle likes to roll too.. It's actually really to play this song with tuning like this. Another cool tune of his is called The Tennessee Stomp, it's the first song from him that I learned.
9/7/2022 I first heard Doyle way back in 1989, when I went to church one Sunday evening, expecting sermon and he played a concert instead. We got a sermon alright, a musical one that I still remember. Don't be deceived, Doyle practiced that tune for a long time before playing it like he did here. You don't play like that, with your eyes closed, off the top of your head, and then repeat it "cut" time.
Doyle is absolutely amazing on guitar, and is a great guy as well. I've met him a time or two at CAAS in Nashville. He is a close friend of Wes Crider, who is also my buddy. Love to hear him play. Ron
I'm from Cornwall in the UK..... what a Master of his craft!!!! God bless you Doyle and the years of dedication you must have put into becoming the Master. (And, by the way I love the tribute to Chet documentary). Our world needs more of you.....
Saw this guy and met him when he was representing Taylor guitars at my local music store In Manchester England. He arrived with Bob Taylor one time. Best acoustic guitars ever. Absolutely phenomenal player and also has a very talented daughter called Hayley.
I came here because Eric Johnson mentioned him in an interview. When I first was looking for my Taylor in 1994, I remember his name on a Taylor guitar. I wonder what happened. This guy is fantastic!
I saw him many years ago when he made a personal appearence at a local music store, then on main st. In downtown Fairhope, sponored by Gretch guitars. Fabulous!
god has definitely blessed Doyle with an unbelievable Talent for the guitar. He is absolutely awesome I love to hear him and Tommy Emmanuel play .both unbelievable players. god bless.
Saw him in person in Chattanooga, TN. Unbelievable talent and a wonderful man. He sold a lot of Taylors and now will help Fender move that Guild line for sure...
Michael Paul I hope to hear him play the Guild live soon. I couldn't tell a huge difference on video. I am a Taylor fanatic so I hated to see him and Taylor part.
I liked the cute smiling girl in the background, shielding her eyes from the light to get a better view when he turned to his right as he sped up. I'd bet that even at NAMM he was underappreciated, perhaps only marginally recognized, and was probably the most technically proficient as well as the most sonically appealing player there. I first heard Doyle about two years ago, and my somewhat uncharacteristic presumptions about what to expect based on the thumbnail for the video I saw were absolutely flattened within seconds. Doyle is magnificent. As others here are saying, he's in an elite group of players who I could listen to at great length with a smile on my face, frozen with an enrapt sense of awe.
Oh yes... the cute ones will stand around for this level of talent, no doubt. Now in my world.. While it's true my band does have 'groupies'... unfortunately they all belong to A.A.R.P. :(
The girl with the striped robe on the right side is cute but looks like the typical musician’s girlfriend, so uninterested and bored by the magic of the music itself. Reminds me my ex-girlfriend actually. The blonde on the left is much more enthusiastic. That is my choice!
Wow! The only thing as good as his play is that great grin he gets.....He seems like he'd have a great soul as part of the whole unbelievable package.....Fantastic player...no doubt about it!
I wish he didnt lose his Taylor sponsorship, i watched him live and it was so much boomier and thumpier with the Taylor. Plus his model was cool with the white pearl rose on the headstock.
I've watched him, at GraceWorks church in Chattanooga, Tennessee. If you weren't close enough to see what his fingers were doing, you'd swear there were three people playing at the same time! The guy's GOOD
not sure it's original.. just search "Guitar tutorial wabash cannonball" there are some of them just similar to this one. I think D Dykes has made a cover or remake
Truely great guitar. Also great camera work to let us enjoy seeing doyle play and entertain instead of machine gun jumping around in an attempt to make the video the star and take away from the music.

In 2009 I saw Doyle. His playing and his humility got to me. After the show he gave me a thumb-pick and I still have it.
Love this Guy so down to earth and a world class musician.
Best rendition I've ever heard! The hair on my neck wont sit down! Awesome
Put a smile on my face!

Man that’s awesome!
What a great entertainer, he is just so natural but you can see and hear what a pro he is

Watching Doyle play motivates me to practice, he is an astounding player.
Wow! Very nice. Couldn't stop listening
...i thought of this after playing this vid hundreds of times ...Gods favorite chord ....D-evil 🤣🤣
When I think I've heard the best guitar picker, then along comes Doyle Dykes.
Doyle has sparked a new desire in me to play,Chet's not gone,he live's through Doyle.
best $10 seeing him live best I have seen in my life, if I could get to his level then I could finally say I can play guitar
Now you're just showing Doyle! LOL! You're awesome bro!
Wow. This dude just blew my mind
Feeling a little heartbroken right now, this guy helps
I saw him many years ago when he made a personal appearence at a local music store, then on main st. In downtown Fairhope, sponored by Gretch guitars. Fabulous!

Both of these guys are great!
Just one of many great players from my home town ...
Doyle says - "Don't laugh - that's what got me on the Grand Ole Opry".
Damn right!
Looking forward to seeing Doyle at NAMM 2016!

@@Tr33People Yeah. I see that too.
Outstanding! Well played. 👏👏👏👍
This was fantastic to hear
Doyle is a top tier guitar player.
wish I could play my guitar half the way he does. marvelous!!!
if you play it half the way he does you'd be one of the best
Easily done - just take your guitar and cut off 3 strings. HAHAHAHAH Get it? Half the way.......oh never mind.
I've seen him in person. He's REAL ! Accomplished puts it mildly. The guy's GOOD !
that was cool as heck! and that bend! excellent
God bless You All who stood with the right side of History

rtgray7 Have to say of all the Guild performances I've seen, I much prefer how he sounds on a Taylor.
Michael Paul I hope to hear him play the Guild live soon. I couldn't tell a huge difference on video. I am a Taylor fanatic so I hated to see him and Taylor part.
Total country-style shred. This dude is amazing!
You gotta be a major badass player to pull off the acid washed coral jean jacket.
I think he just did it...could make even purple look good....maybe even better than prince did.
Wow that is amazing! One of the best guitarist in the world if not THE best! Great video man
He's a very good player, but I think Tommy Emmanuel is the world's best...

Up there in thin air with the likes of. Campbell, Atkins, Reed , Love guitar
this will never get old...the way he speeds up is just inhuman
Wow , was not expecting that. Fantastic
amazing stuff wow
real devil! perfect! supreme guitar pilot!

How this guy gets such a full sound with one guitar is a mystery.
is called fingerpicking ;)
