They had to because Columbo's budget didn't allow for special effects--I imagine renting out all of those luxury locations took up the bulk of it. Even then, the technology for that was so expensive that only movie studios had the cash to pull them off with any degree of impressiveness.

I cannot understand why so many of the comments are about whether the twins would get convicted in court. Just enjoy Columbo for what it is. It doesn't go to court, if it did it would be written differently to take account of the greater burden of convincing a judge and jury who unlike us viewers did not see the murder unfolding before our eyes.

    THOSE "GAPING HOLES"
I often read comments about the so-called "gaping holes" in the plot lines of Columbo episodes. With respect to these leagle-eyed critics, this is my response:
I care not about these multiple and "gaping plot holes", cited with such regularity. I care not, not one single iota. As relevant as these loose ends may be, the truth of the matter is that they are a distraction from the pure aesthetic quality of the work. Fine art, in all its dimensions, requires moments of SUSPENDED DISBELIEF in order to be truly appreciated. And "Columbo", in all its glory, represents supeme fine art in the genre of television detective fiction. Yes, this is detective fiction; not courtroom drama!
For me it's the sheer delight, among other elements, of watching Columbo in action: his peerless genius, his eccentric and idiosyncratic mannersms (more often than not a clever ruse in the art of distraction), his subtle sense of humour, his unmistakable humility and modesty (delicately balanced with his razor-sharp acumen and powers of observation), his calculated cat-and-mouse routine before delivering the kiler blow and so much more; infinitely ...

    • @FrostSylph
      @FrostSylph 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Seconded. The glory is in the chase and the catharsis in the gotcha with the murders breakdown and concession of defeat. Whether they'll actually go to jail or not is irrelevant.

*Mrs Columbo* To my late, great husband's fandom: thank you. Through the years, I've enjoyed reading your tributes; some make me cry, many make me laugh, all bring me joy. I fondly referred to your Lt Columbo as "Loo" and "F (Frank & Falk)." The time has come that I can disclose this fact: I was the mastermind behind solving each case. That was our pillow talk. Loo was the public face; I was the wo-man behind the man. As much as each of you may be intimately familiar with F's body of work, I embody it. Thank you for allowing me to join your elite, Columbo clan. I remain F's treasure chest of memories, and will answer your Qs to the best of my ability. Yours, Mrs C (ps: This is my social media debut. For you - and you only - do I delicately venture into the online meet/meat market. Be gentle.)

It was a weak ending. There was no proof, just a lot of speculation on Columbo part. I think the worst Columbo ending was the one where the women killed her brother. She had it set up that he would come in the house through the door leading into her room. She shot him and claim she thought he was a burglar. She went to trail and they found her innocent, that it was an accidentally shooting. Columbo was able to prove that she killed her brother. She was arrested at the end. WTF!!!! There's nothing they can do to her because of double jeopardy.
I like Columbo very much and its still my favorite detective show. But some of them are just outright bullshit!

What trial.?..... her boyfriend told Columbo he heard shots from house.... then the alarm. Proving she shot him first then turned alarm on which makes her guilty

@@Gentlebreeze397 Which is true! I didn't say she was innocent. All I'm saying is they can't charge her again for her brothers death.
That's double jeopardy. You can't be charged for the same crime twice.

@@34stzoo it didn't go to trail in the first place. Her lawyer friend solved the case for columbo. Because the shots came first, then the alarm. That was the cart before the horse.

@@dinky19810 No, then we're talking about the wrong episode. The sister took over the advertisement company. Leslie Nielson was in this episode. He played the boyfriend.

The shows went for 60 minutes but they had to condense them to under 10 minutes by taking out unnecessary and repetitive content because the old TVs couldn’t hold anything over 10 minutes. The mondo Columbus shows are very short always less than 10 minutes because of the primitive mondo TVs they had back then.
The old old old TVs could not hold more than 10 minutes of show even without nipnagel or shnibuts rhetoric as they used CRT Catholic Ray Tubs technology Motorola involvement and non Dylan Mulvaney CLT or Claw Technology. No harm no fowl. Crackhead Barney oversees the southerly wing of the flies we fight as fly fighters. Caitin Clark scores best against them. The fly fighters tried Dylan Mulvaney to shorten the shows advertising and tried to produce a non racist TV set with Motorola involvement with flypaper control and Dylan Mulvaney CEO.
The historically correct Crackhead Barney and a prominent associate of Dylan Mulvaney declined comment at that time but was very involved. So was Cat Clark on our side. Transgander influencer Dylan Mulvaney abandoned by Bud Lights and faced too much bullying and transphobia. Crackhead Barney is her team member in Chicago. The proof is in the pudding. It’s all part of the non racist Al Qawama discovering process

My advice to these Columbo killers is... Better Call Saul!
