Hey man, just came across your channel .I'm a framer down here in Australia and I love to see what others are up to in other parts of the world. Look forward to more updates, nice work

I'm going to go in detail soon and show the way soon! This video, unfortunately, being 105* and not much time to spare.. I couldn't slow down enough to do it.

HAHAHA. I want one of those Doozer T Shirts! Never seen that before. Glad you found your new favorite channel, we're glad to have you here! In the case my chimpanzee ever needs Plastic Surgery, I know where to go!
What do you add to the dimensions around doors when framing? I’ve been trying to find a source I trust and I trust you. It makes sense to me to add 5/8 to each side (1/2” for trim and a small gap so the door will open and close properly) or 2 1/8” (an additional 1 1/2” for the trimmers on each side. And from top to bottom I have no clue
Say you have a 2'6" x 6'8" - our header size would be 35" - 2" for each side, bit of wiggle room + 3" for trimmers on both sides to adjust. Height wise depends on the FF finished flooring. Typically, we talk with the builder prior to figure this out.. but! 99% of the time we set our headers at 6'10", leaving us with 2" to play with when the doors go in.
@ Tyler Richley - HVAC guys are always the worst for that (cuz their ducts are bigger than pipe or wire). They go in there w/their sawzall and start cutting without knowing anything about structures. Always loved it when they start chipping into a post tension concrete deck. BOOIIINNNGGG!!! 🤨 🤜🤛
Great job Matt. 8:53 Why did you cut the two top plates and put in the support post flush with the top plate? Why not put the post below the top plates? What size is that beam and what is the span of the 2x12's from beam to wall? Keep up the good work.
Love the honesty. Most people would have just said weight. Killer crew and that blocking... yeah extra time and material but well worth every penny of if
I've been there Matt. Would have done the same thing. But fixing it is the only way I can sleep good at night. Keep up on the awesome job and craftsmanship
Great and fast job.👍I’ve got a question though: The second story appears to have these straight line blocking at the height of the upper edge of the windows. Is there a specific reason to it?
A lot of contractors will tell you it's not necessary. People spend days stud straightening and planing studs down once the house is complete.. We'll spend a few hours top to bottom. It keeps things rigid, it sets us apart, most contractors WONT do it.
Some of the blocking seen in this video was due to not having tall enough sheets. We have sheet breaks at 7' & 8' depending on which wall you're checkin' out! :)
We try to use scraps, but the way I cut my blocks makes it hard to use scraps.. So I typically steal a long stock or a couple studs.. It's good practice, keeps things solid.
People trip out on that.. My favorite part of building is when I bring the chainsaw out for connections top to bottom, running straps. People LOSE it.. "WHAT'S THAT FOR?!" Lol.
EvilShake101 blocking on 16” on center for Osb seems like a lot of wasted money and time... we would go broke over here on the east side if we did that
The state of Florida is so much of a pain to work in because of all the codes which is understandable with high winds and hurricanes... I live in Georgia where the building codes are not as strict
I'm planning to build a one story house. Can you give me an estimate price just on the extrior walls and isolation? Would probably a house with 3 rooms.
Gotta keep him in check.. Just before we set the beam, when the video was on timelapse.. I drenched him in ice cold water too. Gotta keep him on his toes!

How often do plumbers and electricians knock you’re blocking out lol seen them do it a couple times on big commercial jobs
Not often, surprisingly. Sparkies get irritated from time to time, but haven't ever raised hell.

Awesome content dude! Why is the beam angle cut on top if the side walls already have an angle?
Bang out!!
Matt it’s crazy how the architect didn’t make you guys put in insulation on that subfloor on the second floor for noise cancellation down low
Is that 3rd Row fire blocking? Do you guys use fire treat?
Sheet break blocking!
@@MattBangsWood Was this a brace panel? Can you break the wall like that? I thought you had to be continuous for a brace panel?
Great job Matt. 8:53 Why did you cut the two top plates and put in the support post flush with the top plate? Why not put the post below the top plates? What size is that beam and what is the span of the 2x12's from beam to wall? Keep up the good work.
👌👌👌👌👌
Can you tell me why you never sheeted the long wall before standing? Was it to reduce the weight for standing?
Unfortunately, we pulled for square on that wall, and it was off a bit.. So we decided to stand it first, plumb and line, sheet afterwards!
Love the honesty.
Most people would have just said weight.
Killer crew and that blocking... yeah extra time and material but well worth every penny of if
I'm 100% transparent, things aren't perfect when it comes to building! It's going to take longer to sheet in the air too, but it is what it is!
I've been there Matt.
Would have done the same thing.
But fixing it is the only way I can sleep good at night.

Great and fast job.👍I’ve got a question though: The second story appears to have these straight line blocking at the height of the upper edge of the windows. Is there a specific reason to it?
Wondering the same thing
Curious why you stagger your fire blocks.
They're just to keep things rigid, they're not fire blocking.
My contractor told me that now those stud blockings aren't necessary. Is it plan dependent or OSB shear wall sufficient to not need blockings?
A lot of contractors will tell you it's not necessary. People spend days stud straightening and planing studs down once the house is complete.. We'll spend a few hours top to bottom. It keeps things rigid, it sets us apart, most contractors WONT do it.
It's an extra cost, doesn't take much in material but it takes a bit of time.. It's not plan dependent, just preference.
Some of the blocking seen in this video was due to not having tall enough sheets. We have sheet breaks at 7' & 8' depending on which wall you're checkin' out! :)
@@MattBangsWood that's good practice, it only costs a few extra bucks
We try to use scraps, but the way I cut my blocks makes it hard to use scraps.. So I typically steal a long stock or a couple studs..
It's good practice, keeps things solid.
Why so much blocking in-between studs? was that the engineer or is that just how you guys frame? Great work by the way!
Lol the way those girth blocks are cut ... we call that the Larry way! Aka the best way lol I’m sure u kno who Larry is though
People trip out on that.. My favorite part of building is when I bring the chainsaw out for connections top to bottom, running straps. People LOSE it.. "WHAT'S THAT FOR?!" Lol.

@@MattBangsWood Why are some staggered and some straight?? Some even change up on same wall.
Diane Bush staggered are so they can support while also nail them easily and strait are blocking for the sheathing, something to hold it and nail it
Diane Bush it’s pretty subjective as long as minimum 1 row of blocking is present for every 10 feet of wall
I can't see well the subfloor that you are using. Thruflor? what about the joist?

Hey why do you put those small wood spacers between the studs..?
