I don’t know anything about building, but I’m fascinated by it however what is impressing me the most at the moment is how well you two are working together.
What I saw today was not only a very well thought out plan and execution. But a great marriage tool. Seemed to really minimize the complaining and arguing. Well done, kudos to you both!
I don’t know the background of the majority of your audience but as a contractor for 40 years I’m often asked about truss angle and how we figure it out. Thanks to technology measuring rise/run for slope ratios and Pitch then using a construction calculator saves brain cells for sure. No more homemade protractors and plumbers bobs. Could be a good tutorial for a short for your viewers?❤
@@jefflinnell8492 it may as well be rocket science to someone with no construction experience. You and I may know how to figure out angle from rise and run but most with no experience may not. My entire point

Looks like you have the axis of your A frame oriented east-west. That would make the south side perfect for mounting lots of solar and the steep angle of the roof would help the solar panels shed show in the winter. If that is your intention, smart, very smart.
Looks beautiful ... and that view is going to be something else with some nice big plate glass down on that end ... great job! It may sound sexist but really big hat off to Katie - that's a lot of weight to have been moving about the way it took to get it all in place - he's a big boy so I'd expect it of him moreso than you!
O, how this video takes me back apx 40 years. My husband and I built our cedar home together and had a wonderful time building. This video touches my heart and is so poignant. Enjoy each other and your youth. As wonderful as it is, it, too is fleeting. Yall are such an inspiration that I long to be young again ☺️☺️ May God continue to Bless you guys !!!!
“Are you fake sleeping?” Thump thump thump. And his head sticking out looking at you- great shots and great progress on the build. Thank you for sharing.
Dam I always knew you two had a lot of grit. However this was truly a lot of work. You two had to have been sore building everything by yourselves. No complaining just working for the goal. Very impressive job. Just shows what you can do if you want something bad enough. Great video thank you for sharing your lives with us ❤.
Rewatching this, and I agree that I didn't think it was that tall until both of you were standing underneath the first one! That is the only thing I really don't like about an A frame, how short they are but that is so huge!
Genius plan and enaction of that plan. WOW I was wondering how in the world you would stand those up. Love it, not a fan of A frames, except this one! And those views are going to be amazing.
You guys really work well together it’s nice to see that really helps to build a strong bond which intern strengthens your love for each other.🥰 Yeah that’s why I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep up the good work and above all stay safe! 😉👋✌️ God bless.. 🙏
Very good work! Completely impressed...design, construction, work ethic, can't say enough. Your Lab is a crack up, I'm sure he's thinking this is his "dog house" .
The quiet achievers! Love your work and are a big fan! Gonna keep that saying going “Team work makes the Dream Work”🙌💪👷♂️👷♀️🫶 Super thanks to the supervisor on the job!🫡🐾
I watched my grandfather from Denmark they make everything strong he would approve (not that you need it). By the way really nice job I like your videos.
Looks good. I would suggest adding another row of fire-block between the floor and what you have now. Interested in how your splice will be made for the rest of the skeleton framing. Be safe.
fantastic, planning and implementation, great work ethick,no all you need is to dig ponds swales etc, permaculture,re generative agriculture, well done❤❤❤❤❤
I envy you two so, you are very fortunate to be able to build your home in such a beautiful place and with your spouse no less! Thank you for the explanation of what exactly you were building and the way you arrived at all the calculations that are involved with framing construction. I run heavy equipment and have done just about every type of site construction but carpentry is one thing I’ve never done and so it’s good to learn new things from videos like this. Best of luck to you both! 👍🇺🇸💪👊
As an old carpenter once told me "You can never brace enough, if it blows out or falls down you should have braced more" 35 years of doing concrete work I've never had a blow out thanks to his teaching. I would have done more diagonal bracing. Enjoy the dream and the ride. Your doing more then most people your ages can ever dream of.
I'm always amazed how people know so much about building. My husband and I can barely hammer a nail. You are both working so hard to accomplish your dreams. Looking forward to watching you videos going forward. Many Blessings!
You guys make a awesome team I know from experience what it takes to build like this be proud of what you have done looking forward to see the next phase 👍👋🇨🇦
Thanks for sharing another great video you two, oh let's not forget the supervisor of building & chief of security Nelly!!! Progress is a beautiful thing
Three days of hard work! But you did achieve your first goal - getting all the "base" A's made and set up. Chris has the easier job - us normal people - 5 ft, an 5 ft. 3 - wil just need to stretch and stand on our tippy toes! Keep up the good works. I watch quite a few "homesteading videos". Four or five in Alaska, three in Canada and a half dozen or more in the states. to write a comment on each time I watch a video is too much for a two finger 84 year old grandfather! I love the area where you are building and wish you much success! You are thinking things through (mental exercise! and complement that with steady physical labour!!
Exciting times. I look forward to watching you build your A frame cabin. You work so well together. Great team. Thank you for sharing. Take care from Cape Cod Massachusetts ✌️🇺🇸
Start small, we started with sheds, chicken coops, and home remodeling. Before you know it you can take on larger tasks, you pick up a few tools along the way to help make the jobs turn out better as well. Good luck 🙂
The funnest part and most impactful as well! Raising the walls is awesome, looks great and ya'll make a great team. The view is spectacular on the ends, do you plan some type window/s on the sides? It would make it even more better! Also love all the planning and forethought on the construction phase. Installing the plywood outer is going to be challenging as that's a huge amount of plywood, I'm guessing a metal roof as well. Last comment, the stair case will be interesting to see how you designed it and incorporated it into the 1st floor plan. Awesome
I don’t know how long your videos have been aired. I watch several Alaska or Canada ones. The video channels getting very large subscribers have more work and less talking. The viewer can see what you’re currently building and as far as down the road building “suspense” brings viewers back for sure. My humble opinion, but your channel. ☮️ on 🌎 I did subscribe. 🙂
I just discovered your channel a few days ago and have been watching it a great deal. Mainly in order to see progress. Like it! Interesting and, actually, calming! All the best
This is a really awesome cabin design. I love taking into consideration all the different styles and techniques I see in all sorts of cabin building videos I see and so far this is one of the most appealing. One day when I build my first cabin, I may just have to go a-frame!
Its going to be an amazing i love that youre going to have bedrooms, but so many people build tiny cabins and then regret its not big enough later so please make it a goodsize for a family, you both work great together xx
I really appreciate your expiations. There are far to many channels that just video without letting those of us who can no longer do what you are doing. Thank You.
I'm so excited for you two! Thanks for filming. You've got some beautiful scenery there, and the fog is kinda enchanting. I'd love to see some more of your goats, and how's your garden doing? Keep on keepin' on.
Isn’t life a better place when all the planning and hard work starts to become real. You’re always putting well thought out plans into actual results that follows the detailed master plan . Happy for you. Not sure what your future plans are but your home can expand to accommodate your needs going forward.
AWESOME!!!! You guys are so good! I bet you found muscles you didn't know you had! And fell in bed exhausted each night. I am beyond impressed with how well you work so well together. That last bit was ALOT scary. I had shaky legs :) I absolutely LOVE your supervisor!!! ( Although he was sleeping on the job a bit at the end :) ) SO CUTE!!! Your home is going to be well made and very cool!!!
Hello! So glad as you must be that you have started on your home. My home is a 30 X 30, 4 bedroom, 1 1/2 bathroom home in a small village in upstate NY. It is big enough that my three children had their own room and we were quite comfortable. Life changes as the kid grow older and leave for the start of their own life. Now the rooms are a sewing/quilting room and an office. That's plenty of room for the grandkids and dogs. I am unsure if I like an A-Frame but your frame seems to have plenty of space and storage. I saw a Canadian A-Frame you-tube video that was just as large as yours. The couple who are building it have added 2 large dormers on each side of the main frame. One is the entrance which has a large closet on the second floor. The other, I believe holds the downstairs bathroom. The dormers make up for the loss of space in the walls. So many designs for A-Frame I am learning about. Sending my hopes for a successful build.
Great work. Side 4 x 8 plywood makes great shear wall to super stabilize structure. I watch Simple Living Alaska and they are super hard workers. You are equal to them and the best of all Alaska homesteaders. I really enjoy your show. Grew up in upstate NEW YORK AND SPENT SUMMERS HELPING MY UNCLE in Pennsylvania on his farm but that was 65 years ago. Keep the great videos coming!
Impressive on how quickly the lower part went up. Thanks for all the explanations of why you are doing what you have done. So many questions but I know they will be answered as the build goes on! Stay safe until next time.
