Growing up we had a guy in the street that you could knock down 100 times and he would get back up. We had about 8 kids the same age about 15 or 16 years old and we used to have either wrestling or boxing matches down the park. This kid couldn't fight, he couldn't land a punch but you could keep knocking him down and he would keep getting up. At footy he played in the ruck at our local club and was a pretty good player but other teams would try and whack him and he would just laugh at them with this silly psychotic grin. Have tried to look him up but dont know what happened to him as he moved out in the late 1980's.

I would think shifting a vertebrae in a team-mates neck from punching the crap out of him during training would be frowned upon these days.

@@rayoflight9709 I remember back in the 80's in the pre season my club used to lace up a aboiut 4 blokes with one boxing glove each and all the other players had to run around dodging and weaving in a 40 metre squared area. You werent allowed to leave the square, if you did you had to run 10 laps of the oval. The blokes with the gloves were the hard nuts in the side and their job was to whack you between the waist and chest area while we were all running around trying to dodge them. We would do this for as long as the coach wanted, sometimes it seemed like an hour. It got us hardened up and pretty fit tbh, we were definitely the toughest club in the comp.

Neil balme was the toughest on the field I think back in the 70s. He didn't seem scared of even the most feared footballers. Boxing I'm not at all sure about.
