    Also, visitors should definitely avoid driving in the city-centre of Melbourne! Because of the trams, cars have to do "hook turns", where you have to stop in the left lane of an intersection in order to make a right-hand turn. Very confusing for first-timers!

    Thank you so much for this video! I am traveling to Australia next year and will renting a car and driving around Tasmania. And also renting a car in Brisbane to drive up to the Sunshine Coast. I really liked these tips and will keep them in mind when I am there next year!

    Hi Candice, my name is Chai. I have been in Australia for about 4 years now. As soon as I moved in, the Australian slang and accent fascinated me. I started picking up the accent. Now I actually sound 75% Aussie. My quick accent transformation from Indian to Australian made me so proud of myself. However, I wanna sound 100% Aussie and learn all the slang terms. Would you be able to help me out in getting better at it? I just wanna sound typical Aussie. Any help would highly be appreciated. Thanks so much!!

      Jaya Karanam Hi Jaya,
      Happy to help.
      1. First off, I love learning Australian. That made me put 100% while learning.
      2. Start slow. Start with alphabets. Understand how they pronounce letters. Practice them. Get better. Although remember, during the process your mates laugh at you as it sounds more like you’re faking accent. Its essentially 3 stage process. 1st stage- indian accent 2nd stage- in between (but this is where people laugh at you and remember not to be demotivated and keep it going. 3rd stage- Speaking Aussie.
      3. Once you’re comfortable with letters jump on to words. Again start slow. It took me 4 years to get to where I am now.
      4. Once you’ve learnt the accent or while learning accent, learn the grammar. Grammar’s equally important.
      5. Learn the slang words.
      I’m sure at this stage you’ll start sounding Aussie. Good luck!!

      Hi! You give great advise! This is a really good way to practise your Aussie dialect. To get better, all I can suggest is that you keep on practising. I'm not doing any private coaching right now, but you might like to find an accent reduction coach close to you in Australia to help you reach that 100%. Other than that, keep doing youtube tutorials and practising the way you already are. The more you do, the better you'll get! :-)

    I'd love to visit Australia sometime in my life but the only thing that freaks me out are the huge spiders out there. Other than that, I love the culture and the accents are my favorite.

    • @vergadain

      While Australia does have some large spiders, they are not dangerous to people and there’s bigger spiders in the Americas and Asia but if your fear is related to their size, stay in the southern parts. Australia does have some spiders that potentially can kill but you’d have to try very hard to get bitten and even then, the last fatality was 1979. Danger factor is over rated. I’ve never been bitten in 50 years and I’ve been fairly reckless as a younger fella in the bush. Horses, cattle, and Kangaroos, on the other hand kill people annually.
      The Maratus genus of spiders lives down under too. They are tiny, typically less than half the size of a pinky fingernail(cut nail),very colourful jumping spiders. The male has a mating dance which even some arachnaphobes think is cute. Commonly called Peacock Spiders. Great for desensitisation. Don’t let the fear of improbability get in the way of awesome possibilities. Australia is a big place too, lots of different regional culture, all very similar but also very different. I hope you make it out this way and glad you like our accent, there’s a bit of variation throughout but not much.

    We have some roundabouts in the US - although more rare than in Australia - but we still have 4 way stops at the roundabout which makes no sense to me. Why have a roundabout at all then if you must stop when you arrive. At that point shouldn’t it just be a 4 way stop? Why even have the small roundabout hahaha.

    In Australia there are states that allow a turn on red but only if the sign says “Left turn on red permitted after stopping”

    • @candicemoll8386
      @candicemoll8386  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think so. At least I haven't seen this, and I've traveled a lot of the country. I think this would still have a green arrow in place if you are able to turn.

      The main thing to remember is that depending on where you're from, the cars might come from the other way when crossing the road! In Australia we drive on the left, not the right. So look BOTH ways twice before stepping into the street. It sounds simple, but most people are in the habit of only looking one way.

      @@candicemoll8386 Thanks Candice. Are all the roads in Australia two-way or do you mean even with one-way roads we should look both ways too?

    • @michaelfink64
      @michaelfink64 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most roads are pretty wide and two way, but there are some one way roads in the cities (especially Sydney). I agree with Candice - safest to look both ways.

    What if a person hit kangaroo to death? Do you need to call a service for saving roos' life or just leave him on the side of the road?

    • @candicemoll8386
      @candicemoll8386  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No you don't need to call anyone. There are so many kangaroos in Australia that they are not seen as pets or exotic animals. So if one gets hit by a car, it's just another animal killed by the road. No one will come. It is very sad. :-(

    • @meSNakeIce
      @meSNakeIce 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@candicemoll8386 I see, thanks for the reply. We got animal on Red List that likely to call to a zoo or a service if they got hit. Other animals is out of this situation, but if we call, the service or the zoo won't say to leave it. In cases, that animals got chance to live. Fatal cases are the same.

      I worked in the Pilbara of WA for 10 years and have hit many kangaroos. The humane thing to do is turn around and run over it again, making sure your wheels go right over its head. Sounds awful, but it may not be dead and it's better to kill it now than let it die an agonising death over a few hours.
