Hey! I'm glad this was useful to you! It had 159k miles. Engine had a knocking sounds, and my brother, who is a mechanic, suggested that lifters are most likely the problem... Well, it wasn't so. Turns out the crankshaft bearing spun, and then I just took the car apart and sold for parts.
when I started this job, the first thing I did was to lock the engine in TDC, then I was marking everything to know how it will go back together. placing a chain back I started from the crankshaft, pulled on it as much I could to place the intake cam gear, and then stretched to place the exhaust cam gear. and after all of the rails were installed, I placed the tensioner. It won't have a lot of tension being new, it needs oil pressure to be tighter. And after the tensioner is installed, the cam gears might rotate a little, so do not tighten the bolts on them. and give a little room for rotation. you might need to readjust the gear placement, and for that, you would need to remove the tensioner. Hope this helps.
Thank you! I'll do you one better, here is a link to FCPEuro with all timing guides (or rails), where I bought everything for the timing job: shorturl.at/fDQZ5
good morning friend, my m44 makes the noise only when it heats up and only from 700 to 1400 rpm. I put a tensioner and put a used one that was in another working m44 but it was just the same, can you help me?
Hello! In my case I have found that the bearing between the crankshaft and a piston has failed. You might have the same issue at an early stage. To replace the bearings, you would need to remove the oil pan and unbolt each piston from crankshaft and replace the bearings. With the right tools and parts, it can be done in one day.
Hello i have m42 but had to replace the aluminium rubber Timing chain tensioner with m44. But now my Timing cover hits the head of the bolt. Help please
Sorry to hear that, unfortunately I've never worked with M42 engine, but if the tensioner fits, it should work.... in other case i would suggest to get a specific tensioner for the engine.
Thanks for the nice video!
I wonder what mileage the engine had and what the main reason was to replace those parts?

So did u have to release the chain tensioner prior to rotating to line everything back up?

Hello, good job. Could you pass me the numbers of all oem rails ?

and I have just updated all links in the description, hope that helps

I couldn't have said better myself lol
what's the clock and the year of your Z3 1.9? on mine the battery in on the trunk
it was 1996 Z3, not sure about the "clock" since I've already junked the car and cannot even look it up.
Woah how did you get it that clean
Just wash it in fuel, gasoline that is, not in diesel.

@@garagem.74 no problem! Good luck with your engine.
3 years later but can I possibly get that torque spreadsheet?
Oh, it was so long since I made that video... I forgot that I even had that doc, and it looks to be deleted from the shared drive. I'm sorry about it.
