you're great. this video is a really good job at solving common problems, which solve a very specific thing in great detail. yea.. so I'm impressed. keep doing it at the same level of quality
So organized and helpful! Thank you! I also use the Perform-VE and RC505 looper + a Roland keyboard in my setup, and am at the point of wanting to add a DI to the Perform-VE (because the signal out is HOT HOT HOT) and getting myself a mixer & drum machine. I appreciate you!
@@FKeyLoops I considered it but the size and price are daunting! I'm looking at the Roland MC101 as an alternative... Although it's also oddly fun to limit myself to the inbuilt beats and kits on the 505 looper and the Perform-VE vox box (I use those two tiny drum pads to record from the vox box to the looper -- it's a very basic sound but that's kind of what I like about it!) And I sometimes use the inbuilt rhythms on the 505. Again, super basic, dry, and mechanical in sound quality but it lets me get ideas out quickly (I have WAY more ideas than I do patience to twiddle with fiddly gear or menu-dive). Still... I'm tempted by the compactness and range of the MC101. We shall see! I try hard not to acquire new gear so I'm forced to push my existing rig to the max. You're the first person I've found with a very similar setup to mine, which is refreshing! Your keyboard soloing chops are 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
wow good advice. I experienced all this at my 1st gig last year. I just brought a Model 12 3 days ago. setting it up now. I have a similar set up. 707 505mk2 Sp404 etc... Thanks this is good advice
I'm always digging for chords and often spend so much time setting up I cut my actual practice/playing time nearly in half sometimes. Why did I never think of keeping sets of chords together like this?
Hi. Thanks for the video. But what if my keyboard already has speakers? Do I just skip the out to speaker step? Will the mic be heard through the keyboard speakers?
Not sure if the rc505 had balance outputs, but your yamaha mixer should have. I think a better mixer will also be safer next time. Maybe a single loop pedal could also be a safe option to have as back up p
I just found your channel and you have amazing tips and performances! I have a couple of questions: 1) What do you use to put all your stuff above the keyboard? You just put a piece of wood in the top part of the keyboard stand? 2) How do you connect the Zoom to record your performances? Directly to the output of the mixer and then from the zoom to the PA system? 3) Do you recommend another drum machine that's under 500 USD? 4) What brand is your PA system, and does it runs on batteries?
Thank you. 1- plank of wood 2- Out of the mixer 3-You could look at Novation. Not sure of prices though. Or go second hand. 4- I use JBL, and no not battery powered. Good luck
@@FKeyLoops The video will be revisited by many! I have a Roland Synth and I plan to buy a TR-8S and get started in this world of Midi synchronization. I have a Loopstation MK2 and I'd like to know if it's easy to use its two audio inputs to insert both the Synth and my chain of stereo guitar effects pedals into the Looper's inputs. Will I need a cabinet simulator pedal for the wet guitar signal at the end of the chain? Or can I plug everything into the Loopstation and its stereo output to the stereo inputs of a mixer will make everything ok? I'm asking this because I'm still going to buy a mixer, and if it's the MG06 I'm in doubt as to which device I should take advantage of by clicking on the stereo use function of its preamp inputs. Would it be better to use everything that's in the looper, in my case two instruments, or as you did, when the TR-8S arrives, plug its output into the mixer's pre-amp inputs, sending the two instruments that are in the looper to a common jack input? Always grateful for your generosity!
Thanks for sharing! really helpful 🙏🙏 I want to buy a speaker for live shows and i was wandering which one would you recommend. I see you have a JBL, which model is it? Thanks a lot!!
Thanks. Speakers are very dependant on what style of music, and venues, audience sizes. I have an 8inch JBL Eon compact (battery powered) for small restaurants. A 10inch IRX (the one in the video) and also 2 EON 615 (15inch and horn) versions for bigger gigs. JBL's are ok, but there are lots of other brands and sizes. Speak to your local music shop for advice on your needs.
Ur setup is amazing I'm jealous but I am wondering can I have a much simpler setup regarding speakers and sound.? I only have a Bluetooth speaker that has aux in could I use THAT?
Sure can. Buy the cable *from a music or electronics shop) that has the same output from your loopstation or mixer, and on the other end, the corresponding input to your speaker. Good luck.
Do you recommend any good stands for JBL 305 Mk2 speakers? I would like height adjustable ones but they all seem to be kind of flimsy, plus a train passes by my house that rumbles it sometimes. What would you recommend if I want to use them to jam with this looper, sometimes standing up, sometimes sitting on my desk 😊
Please help me!!I I somehow put effects on my music that I'm playing form my phone, its linked to the input FX, on the left so now if i put reverb on my voice it also does it to the track, i want it on the right with the track FX. How do i do that?? Got a gig tmrw
I run through 2 different setups. Want to keep it simple (Mono) or stereo if happy to add a bit more cables, gear and sonic options. I still use both options depending on the sort of gig, setup and what i want to achieve on the day
Thanks for the video, super helpful! But there is one important point I could not catch. So the connection from Loopstation and Groovebox into your mixer has to be via TRS right? (Does TS work as well? Does it make any difference? ). Also from your mixer into PA you use XLR, can you use TRS instead? (or again does TS work? Does it make any difference?).
Sorry one more question. Im using an effects board for my guitar. So Guitar goes into Effects Board with TS. Then Effects board goes into Boss RC505 intsrument 1 slot left and right with TS. Should I use TRS for the second connection? Does it make any difference?
Novice question but can someone get started looping vocal/piano/percussion simply with the rc505, a mic and a regular keyboard (which has drum fx)? There is no need for laptop/synth/controllersoftware etc??
I have the RD 2000 and RC 505 as well, and I'm wondering, do you use the RD 2000 also as a midi controller for the 505? I'm trying to figured out how to map the faders and knobs to the RC 505.
Hi John. Interesting idea. Haven’t seen anyone do it. I don’t connect midi from the keys to the Loopstation. If anything I would do it in reverse, so the RC505 sends midi clock to RD2000 for tempo synced delay effects. Good luck
@@FKeyLoops gotcha. My intention was to map the knobs and faders on the RD 2000 to FX and levels on the 505 to have extra controls. I know in the assign function the 2000 sends MIDI out and I can see the CC numbers, but it's just not communicating with the 505. I'll keep tinkering!
Connect them Via Midi Out to Midi In. The midi out unit will be the master. You will need a sound mixer to plug audio from both into, and then to your speaker. To be honest if your learning, start with one Loopstation, get really good at it, then buy a 2nd one. Goodluck
Hi, I'm new to looping. I have the RC-505 MkII. I've noticed that when I record loops with an instrument through a microphone (lets say percussion or vocals), the microphone will then pick up the pre-recorded loops through the speakers while I'm recording a new loop over everything but on a new channel track. Even with the speakers facing away from the mic, it still picks it up. There are times when I want to isolate the mic recorded track during playback, but its disappointing when I hear other sounds that it picked up by the speakers, if that makes sense. Is there a way around this? Perhaps I am not using the correct microphone?
Don't use a super sensitive instrument mic. Maybe something like a Shure SM58, but you will always get some bleed from the speakers. Try recording the more sensitive parts first over a lighter sounding loop, or simply drop down the volume of the background loop while you record. Or get some in ear monitors, so you dont have speaker music going into your microphone
i'm not sure if I am understanding your question correctly. Can the RC505 harmonize? It's not really built for that. You need a dedicated vocal harmonizer unit.
Direct Input Box. Their primary purpose is to convert unbalanced or high-impedance instrument signals into a signal suitable for direct connection to the microphone input of a mixing console - whether live on stage or in the recording studio

Hi. Thanks for the video. But what if my keyboard already has speakers? Do I just skip the out to speaker step? Will the mic be heard through the keyboard speakers?
I doubt it will sound good. Keyboard speakers ate built for keys sounds only. Don't have the power for vocals. But give it a try

TS works just fine. Where an XLR option is available it is preferable to me, as that cable has better shielding against noise.

should run power in separate conduits to signal so less interference 👱♀️🥂
