When our daughter was born in 1987 and we discovered that she could not tolerate disposable diapers, then we found that diaper service cloth diapers were laundered in such harsh chemicals that she could not use them, either. Our Pediatric Dermatologist told me of the then “latest & greatest” washer and dryer from Germany - from a company I’d barely heard of in the US - a company named “MIELE”. The top-of-the line Miele’s that year (’87) ended up somewhere north of $3500 with tax and set-up. However, the first load of towels had enough residual detergent left by our previous Maytag washer, that they didn’t need any detergent for that first wash - and we had plenty of suds! The most amazing thing was the towels came out smelling absolutely clean. Of course the real “acid test” was taking a load of soiled cloth diapers (they’re rinsed at the moment they come off the baby - so there is no solid waste to speak of) and putting them in the Miele’s on the extended cycle, at 190 degrees F, and giving them a pre-wash and an extra rinse just for the sensitive skin of our little redheaded girl. I also used the fabric softener formulated for the Miele’s and recommended by Miele - this was in the days before Miele sold their own line of laundry care product. The end result was that the diapers were perfectly clean, soft, and being an MD myself, I ran a bacterial count on them to make sure they were properly sterilized - and they were! Their bacteria counts was closer to that of surgical towels that are steam sterilized than the count on ordinary diapers or even diaper-service delivered diapers!! That was also the end of our daughter having skin problems due to harsh detergents being left in her clothing. Her dermatologist joked that he should get a commission from Miele on the dozens of families he had recommended switch to Miele to deal with a baby having hypersensitive skin. A couple of years ago that same daughter graduated college and bought her first condo a month later. When asked what she wanted for a house-warming gift from Daddy - the answer was “would it be too much to ask for a pair of Miele’s, Daddy?” Needless to say, that’s what she got and she’s delighted with them!! That original set of Miele’s from 1987 went to my mother’s house a decade back when we opted to buy a new set for a new house we built. We had Miele factory service go thru the older machines before giving them to Mom, and we replaced a few minor wear and tear items on a (then) ten year old washer and dryer. For a few hundred dollars they were made to look and function like brand new. We are delighted with our Miele washer and cannot imagine anyone not being equally happy with them. Yes, there work differently from the typical American top loaders and one does actually have to read the manuals once to understand how to best use all the features and programs they offer. I’ve heard friends complain about the cost of a Miele laundry pair. I quickly point out that 3500 dollars spread out over 27 years (so far) works out to about ten dollars per month! And they use about 1/3rd of the electricity, forty (40%) percent of the water, and far less detergent than does the typical US style machine. I’ve paid for the Miele’s many times over in water, power and detergent savings alone! Having clothing last longer, smell better, and feel better in daily used is not a small by-product either. When Miele says “Immer Besser” (Forever Better in English) they are NOT kidding!
I've had a Miele vacuum for the past seven years, best product I've ever owned. At $600 the price was a little steep but in those seven years my mother has replaced her $300 vacuum four times. Just bought a condo and bought a Miele washer, dryer and coffee maker all with a 10 year promo warranty. Looking forward to many trouble free years with these products as well.
I had my mothers Miele washing machine and dryer for 8 years. I have no idea how long she had it before that. Now for no reason we got new machines. The old one still function 100%. Got top models from Miele this time. Hopefully they too live up to the name.
Thoroughly agree with you Andrew. At first when my mother brought the machine I was against it simply due to the price but with a 10year guarantee... And 9 years later still looking as good as new I've never known/had such a reliable machine, will certainly be looking at other Miele appliances in future!
I am a fan! Our household does 9-10 loads a week. Our previous Miele lasted for 10 years. The call out service fee was refunded when we decided to buy a new Miele instead of repairing the old one. On sale, the basic model cost under $1000.
My 12 year old Miele washing machine is still going strong. When it eventually dies I will definitely be getting another one. My 13 year old Miele vacuum cleaner, however, is gradually dying (I blame the electric powerhead - which, interestingly, they no longer do). But after looking at alot of reviews have decided to get another one. Mieles are solid and - if a little unexciting - incredibly good value for money when you consider how long they live for.
Thank You Andrew for sharing this, our new Miele washing machine was delivered yesterday and the so called service was unbelievably bad so I am left with the manual and trying to get as much information as possible on the internet how to use the machine. @Thorn Beta 5 It likely wont. It is not the equivalent of my 1215 from a build perspective. I have a little giant (PW-3035?) that is - or even superior to the 1215 but the price on that is pretty high.
@ThornBeta5 Pretty good so far mostly normal, dark, quick intense and wrinkle free. Im bummed I cant get a blank twindos cartridge so I fill/ refill them on my own which is kind of a pain, but the unit has been solid.
I've had a Miele W4842 for almost six trouble-free years now and am most pleased with it. One thing I did do shortly after I got it was to enter Program Mode and change several settings to suit me, including lowering the maximum extract speed to 1200 RPM so it can enjoy a longer life.
@@latui7350 No, not quite, both Zanussi & AEG are part of Electrolux Group. Zanussi has been reduced to a medium quality brand now imo and I don’t think their washers will last like they used to (life before drum bearings fail is now about 10 years, far less than Miele (based on a neighbours experience). My Mother has a 17 year old John Lewis model JLRC101 dual fuel range style stainless steel double oven cooker which is made by AEG. It looks great but the oven heating element reliability has been poor and, at 16 years old, repairers were saying that parts are becoming hard to find (but when they realised we weren’t going to buy a new cooker then suddenly the spares were found 😂). In the 70s & 80s Zanussi offered longevity approaching Miele for a lot less money but they appear to have changed their approach ….. they probably had to (since the market probably wouldn’t accept further increases in the price). Notwithstanding, 10 years for a washer doing 3 wash cycles a week is fair enough considering the mid range price of Zanussi washers nowadays compared to Miele. My Zanussi DW401 dishwasher is about 37 years old and is still going although the programmer does stick from to time nowadays (mind you it’s only used about once every 7 days or so since I live solo). Unlike many dishwashers nowadays it does have a rinse & hold cycle which is useful for those, like me, that only slowly fill it up before running the wash cycle.
Hi Andrew great review on the best domestic washingmachine brand by far. Others just cut to many corners now a days ! And threw the years the Miele family have remained true to its values. Forget the plastic in the rest buy the best!
I received my miele W1 capdos in aprill, I love the pre iron feature, shirt feature and proofing feature. I love the easy access zero water spillage pump that I can clean out regular without destroying my floor. But; Within 3 months the circuit board failed, (miele changed it under guarantee (10yr)) The engineer told me that the ten year guarantee is only based upto 5 washes per week or so many hours of washing. As there is no way to tell if you have gone over you could expect a huge bill from Miele if you contact them thinking your machine is under guarantee? (Hmmm, Don't Germans separate colours, textiles or have families and bedding? I smell a rat because I'm pretty sure they do!) anyway I've had my washer less that six months and unfortunately I've had to call out miele again because my washer says Heater Fault! now. I'm told They will fix it but the fact that my miele is less than six months old and has already two major faults. I'm starting to worry that this machine is a lemon. Miele I'm told will fix but won't change it. When these machines are sold for Upwards of £1000 and supposed to come with a (10yr warranty nicely stuck to the machine in the shop) You don't expect it to fail within a year let alone twice within 6 months. I'm not convinced these machines are built to last anymore. I'm feeling slightly conned and regret buying it. As a fair point though: The people from Miele are lovely and try to re-assure you and I know people who have had these machines for several years without fault.. and upon their experience I too went down the Miele route. I do hope this will be fixed Idealy Swapped for a new one... but it doesn't make me confident that this machine will be cost effective or last. I'm posting my experience so people have a non biassed review.

So Miele Changed the washing machine (sent the cheaper one) So I rejected it and stated I'm going to get my money back from the store because I aren't paying for the cheaper model, If I'd have wanted it, I would have purchased it. So They exchanged it for the next one up. I was happy with this. 2 x years in, the element failed, so they changed that to. Since then, (and I really don't want to jinx it) it has worked fine. I do get told there is fluff in the jets even when I have just cleaned it all out (once a month) The engineer states it's programmed to tell you every-so often, so not to worry about it. (he came to look at the dishwasher and I asked why it tells me it even after a full clean). My Previous Bosch lasted 12 years without going faulty (we changed the brushes a couple of times, but other than the brushes there were no problems with it). Would I purchase another after this one? On my experience until now? No! However, if it lasts another 10 years then yes!
All I can say is that you have had amazing bad luck (or you work for Bosch !! 😄😄). Interesting that the Machine presumably has an elapsed time / wash cycle counter regarding the 10 year / 5 washes a week guarantee, I don't think I'll be caught out by it since I wash my bed linen roughly every 4 months whether it needs it or not 😄. I believe that Miele can be very contractural, my boss had a Miele dishwasher and it failed just a couple of months out of the one year (I think) guarantee back in the 1980s. I think it was the programmer but i can't remember. He complained that he would expect a Miele to last far longer but to no avail, he had to pay for the repair. N.B. My parents & I both have had Miele front loaders (one a standard machine with the DC main motor and one higher up the range with the 3 phase (brushless) main motor) for 14 years now without a single problem. The machine with the standard DC motor is used about 4 - 5 times a week and the brushes are still the original.
@@Martindyna 😂 No. I do not, nor have ever worked for Bosch. As I stated, I know many people who have owned their Miele's many years without fault. Touch wood, still so far so good.
@@yorkshirehousewife784 The W1 series was pretty new when you first bought it and it had construction problems especially with the electronics and the spinner assembly. These problems have been mostly ironed out with later revisions. Miele is still much better quality than other brands and i'm a huge fan but they don't build their machines like they used to. I recently got a '91 Novotronic series in near mint condition and it is built like a tank, very serviceable (You can open the whole front like a door and reach everything, schematics are included) and foolproof. Their service technicians are very competent but equally expensive and i take offense at their uptight practice of letting the customer pay for repairs of known problems. They should just change the machine when it's obviously a dud.
Our Miele washing machine lasted 15 years & was used less frequently than what the company says it tests it machines for. Had a Miele technician out to fix it only to be told it was unrepairable due to it being a bearings issue
But the best reason for me to buy a Miele? my best friend bought a MIELE from ,John Lewies Peter Jones ( or was it called John Lewies brothers?) in 1974 at their Holloway road Branch North London It never ONCE broke down but in the end after years of moaning his wife finally won n they replaced it with Another MIELE Maybe a Hose broke once but am Not 100% sure, when I was self employed (electrician) a very messy job rewiring a house with people living in as every day furniture are moved carpets up floorboards wall channels hatched out for the plastic tubes n cables plastered over it was a very hard messy job n borrowing their vacuumed to clean the floor every evenings I was SHOCKED at how well a MIELE vacuum cleaner was actually collecting the dust every evening them days at home we had a Hoover plenty of noise n heat n very little suction? But the MIELE would almost lift the carpet up it was that good them days Nothing Zero would even come close to a MIELE, Not even the US made Kirby that was selling for a £1000 Plus I do Not believe there is a Better company than MIELE on earth in the products they manufacture

The video mentions they spin the drum with an unbalanced load for x amount of hours, which causes the most wear and tear on the machine. It's not correct to analyze this based on cycle times, rather you would analyze the 20 year period based on spin times, which are typically under 10 minutes per load.
@@yorkshirehousewife784 I was more referring to how they get the "tested for 20 years of use" standard rather than their warranty and terms. I definitely agree with your statements that warranty terms should be straightforward and plain. Though I can also see why manufacturers also put in 10 years or x hours of use/cycles, which I think is common when it comes to warranty terms (i.e. car warranties, even my blender has a 8 years or x cycles term limit). Without the x time limit the manufacturer could end up having to warranty a machine that was used 20 times a day for 9 years, which would be considered commercial use of the machine and would far exceed the quality of parts engineered for the machine. I do believe that the terms a warranty is limited by should be easily accessible by the consumer so they can see where they stand. In your case, being able to look up operating hours on the machine or app. As a side note, Miele in the US often has a promotion for a free 5 year warranty on machines purchased during holidays. Is there something similar where you're at?

I just got my first miele from the back of our local electronics store as it was going to get scrapped but i saved and it works perfectly has a few scratches etc and its 13 years old

Indeed my my miele w487wps is 10 years old , it was used the first 4 years for twoo families and the last 6 years for one family, never really never any problems and jansenuitutrecht, when you bought youre miele you had the chance to buy insurrance which garanteed that your miele would get repaired or replaced for free, that insurrence is valid for 10 years!!!!!
Miele use DC motors with brushes for their standard machines true, but for their premium models they use a 3 phase induction motor which of course is AC & brushless 1:42

WCA 030 WCS Active, WEA 025 WCS Active .... both on sale in the UK for £ 669.00 the bullet points mention the ProfiEco motor but it is not mentioned in the `Your exclusive advantages' bit underneath. On more expensive models the ProfiEco motor (which I assume is the 3 phase motor since it is stated that it is `driven by an inverter') IS mentioned under `Your exclusive advantages'. N.B. Regarding the ProfiEco motor in faint font it is stated that `features depend on model'.
My 2007 purchased miele prestige plus washing machine went pop 3 weeks ago after 16 years, engineer called out and told me one of the 3 legs on the drum had snapped and repairs would be around £ 500 , so I've bought and had delivery today 17/3/23 of miele wca020, its a touch screen model but it is not of the quality of my outgoing model , ie the printed txt on older models were all back printed so you couldn't clean the facia wording off , this new model has the txt printed directly on the facia front which means in time it will wear off .the door bezel was all chrome, new one plastic, the words MADE IN GERMANY, no longer appears on the front , don't get me wrong my new machine is still a weighty affair but I really don't think it will last as long as my prestige plus 😢. Sad thing is when my old washing machine was being taken away it still looked as good as the day I bought it back in 2007.
@@peterstudley1804 Your experience sounds similar to mine. We have had a Miele since 2008 & a fortnight ago it developed a problem. Paid an all inclusive price (about £270) for a Miele technician to fix it only to be told it was “unrepairable”, ie it was a drum/bearings issue & would have cost too much to fix. We have had it for 15 years & use it about 3 times a week so it’s used well below stated Miele usage performance. It had been a great machine until now. looking on the forums it seems as if only the more expensive Mieles are built in Germany - entry level models are now built in Poland (I heard they were built in Czech Republic for a while)
May have to load upmy Miele and send it to Germany for repairs....shame selling dealers have no service support system in place. Im 2 hours from New York City, not out in hillbilly land.
Please do not believe the 20-year life pitch. Our W4800 washing machine has fallen apart (literally - leaks and disintegrated plastic frame and control panel) after 4 years. Our dishwasher lasted about the same time frame. Not only these Miele machines are expensive to buy they are also expensive to fix, which means you are looking at buying a new machine every few years. Doesn't make sense to spend all that money for a few years' use.
They often run free 5-year guarantees during sales events (most holidays). Unfortunately, certain things have to give to keep their machines within a price index that consumer's are willing to pay. Fortunately, Miele is one of the last appliance manufacturers that do design for longevity and dependability vs the countless others that go for a lower price but make up the avg. 7 year lifespan under average use.
Yeah. Right. 20 years. At 8 years the solenoid failed. $350. At10 years the controller switch failed $250. At 11years the solenoid went again, twice.Just buy one for a quarter of the price and replace every 5 years. That's how to get 20 years worth.
My six year old miele dryer is done according to repairman today. Used by family of 2 who are away several months a year so verrrry light use. The drum doesn't turn, and upon opening the top the belt was broken. The serviceman said because drum would barely turn that this meant some sort of bearing was gone and that repair would cost 500.00 plus and that it wouldn't be reliable. 10 year guarantee? Do you need to pay extea for that?
Had to wait 2 wks and pay $200 plus parts for a miele service call, but they fixed it for total $250 in half an hour. Got a refund from the first repair shop after i told them. I would advise miele owners to deal only with miele direct for repairs.
i dont know if they are sold in the UK but i have a Miele W5873 edition 111 it doesnt say in the user manual but do i have to clean the pump filter or does the machine that. Can someone please answer my question!
If you are talking about the filter that's on the bottom left side, you have to check it at least once per two months for coins, pins and other stuff that might you have forgotten inside your clothes and to clean it so it doesn't gather up any slime. But if you mean the pump filter that's inside the washing machine you will have to call a technician (preferably from a Miele dealer) to check it. I have the W5963 and W665F washing machines and the T8967 WP Eco Comfort drier, the dealer -who also offers a service- advised me to do a maintenance service every 3-4 to check if there is any wear and tear or other problem, the cost is 70 for all 3 machines by the way so if you are in UK it should cost around 45 quids.

Does Canada base washing machine sizes on drum capacity or washing weight? If by capacity, all Miele machines have a 2.26 cuft drum. If you go for their Little Giant model it's a 2.6 cuft drum. In the US the only Miele machines available are 8 KG, which is actually the same weight most full-sized machine can accomodate.
There will be service calls in there too. No machine will last 20 years without service. And its just a gimmick with regard to stains ie egg, chocolate etc. Give me a break.....A dedicated setting for egg vs chocolate?????
I am sorry to have to say that you are mistaken as I am the proud owner of a Miele washer that is 25 years old, still going like the first day I started using it. And the dryer of the same brand which I got later on is also working flawlessly after 17 years. Admittedly the purchase price is high to many people, but it is well worth it. I can't comment on your "egg vs chocolate" (may depend on other factors) but I can certainly say that my clothes come out clean.
My parents have a second hand Miele bought in 2004 and works exactly as it did when they had it installed. I'd have to say that it washes better than every other machine I've used.
Florida Railfanningkid yes there are some domestic washers with a bigger drum (up to 8 kg dry clothes). Of course the miele professional washer offer bigger drums
So why has mt 34 yr old Servis only had a door seal because it was mouldy? The machine has had a hard life, doing over 7 loads a week and it's never broken. And the drum has 2 lines of slits which gives better results than the honey comb drum. And why put a guarantee on the lifters? You aren't the only brand with metal lifters.
@@davidbillyard6629 Well placed bet. Bosch and Siemens are the same company (BSH - Bosch Siemens household appliances). They are not only made in the same factories, their models are the same 1 for 1. Only difference is design.

I have a w1213 washer. Great machine for 12 years. Something is loose and jamming up between the drums.5 Service people were called. 3 said they will not work on a Miele machine, 4th said he does not know where to get parts and the service man recommended by the selling dealer said I will charge you for the service call, charge you for time working on machine to find the problem. I will leave and order parts. Charge fir the return service call plus time of repair. Your better off to junk the machine and buy a new one. Thats the reply from the service tech recommened by the selling dealer. Don't get all the good reviews when no one will work on this product
I guess your "Immer Besser" Miele was what our Maytag washers were to the US. There are still many Maytag washers running from the early 70's with maybe a belt change in all that time. They may not have been the best washers in every category, but cleaned very well and were the longevity champs by far with the fewest repairs. Whirlpool/Kenmore machines would probably be the 2nd longest lived washers.

may1787 When you compromise you have to reduce cost somewhere. I am all for higher prices if the quality matches those prices....today that isn't the case......quality and price no longer go hand in hand.
They have to be expensive since they have to wait along time for you to hopefully buy another one . I believe the Singer sewing machine company almost went out of business because their machines were too reliable (no revenue from Spares).
Intertesting for sure BUT I find it odd that you proudly mention 10,000 washes as your clearly showing and referring to a Miele domestic machine. As a Miele employee? I sure that your very well aware that Miele considers anything above 8,000 washes as commercial use and thus will invalidate your warranty after 8,001 washes. Also, why is it that Miele loves to scream about "designed to last 20 years" YET when it comes to Miele putting there money where there mouth is on many machines you get the absolute STATUTORY EU Legal MINIMUM of 2 years? To put that into context a £155 Beko has the same warranty as a Miele costing what, 600% plus MORE. BTW I have a WKH120wps.
sera̾ph you can extend the warranty to 10 years for 200€. I think they only offer that. I was almost buying an LG for the same price but then I reckoned their washing results was better.
The vast majority of washing machines are no longer built to last because planned obsolescence equals more profits. This is why spare parts are so expensive - so as to price the consumer out of repairs and forcing them to buy a new washing machine. This includes the German brands like Bosch and Siemens. At least with a Miele machine you'll know it will work for at least a decade.

Dieter Timmermanns You can buy 5 chromebooks for the price of one Surface Pro 3 or a Macbook Pro. Why do people buy those expensive products? Simply because they're better. A Miele washing machine is better than a BSH (Bosch/Siemens) machine. Because it uses better quality materials such as a stainless steel drum, high quality pump and motor. The price is about the same nowadays, a Bosch machine with automatic dosing is 1000 euros, just as much as a Miele W1.

They wash good and they had place to repair.The New Drum that they had the last 10years ,are not bad.But they had too much Electronic now,it is the first that can go down.My 20 Year old lives, because they had not that Gimmiks.Now they are in Energysaver-Madness.The Machines saves not much more then 20 year old Machines, but to geta good Energylabel, they make a Eco-Programm wich takes 4 Hours.Only this Programmsave the Energy, and nobody want to wait 4 Hours.And they dont calculate in Washloadsthey use Energy per Hour.If the Washload take 4 Hours, the Energy per Hour is less,but not the Energy for a Washload.Other Manufactors use cheaper Materials and the have sink the Livetime to 8-6 years.If you buy all 6 years a new one,what Energyis needed to manufact all these Mashines?There is no Energysaving at all andyou have to pay Tax every Time.
Even if it is well built with high quality it is very powerful stupid machine !!! My advice is : Do not ever buy Miele washing machines ! Unless you love (Headaches, Unexpected stop, Sudden stuck ,Frustration) These machines are based on complicated mentalities, These machines are Very complicated ,Not practical ,Very Expensive ,Needs periodical professional technicians for silly resettings (extra cost for nothing), These machines are main cause of depression! To be happy search for simplicity

They’re not overpriced considering how premium it is and the washing results. It also takes amazing care of your clothes which many machines doesn’t. It also last 20 years so it truly is better than any LG. Have you had a Miele washing machine since you clearly know so much about LG being better which it isn’t even close to being?

Past 5 years I had two washers from siemens. Both were broken. Unless they are over filled the drum slams against the side and makes noise or just wont spin. My next washer will be a miele. Stay away from all siemens products as it is no longer siemens. A group of unknown investors bought the name. That's fraud if you ask me! That's typical Germany!

When our daughter was born in 1987 and we discovered that she could not tolerate disposable diapers, then we found that diaper service cloth diapers were laundered in such harsh chemicals that she could not use them, either. Our Pediatric Dermatologist told me of the then “latest & greatest” washer and dryer from Germany - from a company I’d barely heard of in the US - a company named “MIELE”.
The top-of-the line Miele’s that year (’87) ended up somewhere north of $3500 with tax and set-up. However, the first load of towels had enough residual detergent left by our previous Maytag washer, that they didn’t need any detergent for that first wash - and we had plenty of suds! The most amazing thing was the towels came out smelling absolutely clean.
Of course the real “acid test” was taking a load of soiled cloth diapers (they’re rinsed at the moment they come off the baby - so there is no solid waste to speak of) and putting them in the Miele’s on the extended cycle, at 190 degrees F, and giving them a pre-wash and an extra rinse just for the sensitive skin of our little redheaded girl. I also used the fabric softener formulated for the Miele’s and recommended by Miele - this was in the days before Miele sold their own line of laundry care product.
The end result was that the diapers were perfectly clean, soft, and being an MD myself, I ran a bacterial count on them to make sure they were properly sterilized - and they were! Their bacteria counts was closer to that of surgical towels that are steam sterilized than the count on ordinary diapers or even diaper-service delivered diapers!! That was also the end of our daughter having skin problems due to harsh detergents being left in her clothing. Her dermatologist joked that he should get a commission from Miele on the dozens of families he had recommended switch to Miele to deal with a baby having hypersensitive skin.
A couple of years ago that same daughter graduated college and bought her first condo a month later. When asked what she wanted for a house-warming gift from Daddy - the answer was “would it be too much to ask for a pair of Miele’s, Daddy?” Needless to say, that’s what she got and she’s delighted with them!!
That original set of Miele’s from 1987 went to my mother’s house a decade back when we opted to buy a new set for a new house we built. We had Miele factory service go thru the older machines before giving them to Mom, and we replaced a few minor wear and tear items on a (then) ten year old washer and dryer. For a few hundred dollars they were made to look and function like brand new.
We are delighted with our Miele washer and cannot imagine anyone not being equally happy with them. Yes, there work differently from the typical American top loaders and one does actually have to read the manuals once to understand how to best use all the features and programs they offer. I’ve heard friends complain about the cost of a Miele laundry pair. I quickly point out that 3500 dollars spread out over 27 years (so far) works out to about ten dollars per month! And they use about 1/3rd of the electricity, forty (40%) percent of the water, and far less detergent than does the typical US style machine. I’ve paid for the Miele’s many times over in water, power and detergent savings alone! Having clothing last longer, smell better, and feel better in daily used is not a small by-product either. When Miele says “Immer Besser” (Forever Better in English) they are NOT kidding!

I've had a Miele vacuum for the past seven years, best product I've ever owned. At $600 the price was a little steep but in those seven years my mother has replaced her $300 vacuum four times. Just bought a condo and bought a Miele washer, dryer and coffee maker all with a 10 year promo warranty. Looking forward to many trouble free years with these products as well.
I had my mothers Miele washing machine and dryer for 8 years. I have no idea how long she had it before that. Now for no reason we got new machines. The old one still function 100%. Got top models from Miele this time. Hopefully they too live up to the name.
Thoroughly agree with you Andrew. At first when my mother brought the machine I was against it simply due to the price but with a 10year guarantee... And 9 years later still looking as good as new I've never known/had such a reliable machine, will certainly be looking at other Miele appliances in future!

I am a fan! Our household does 9-10 loads a week. Our previous Miele lasted for 10 years. The call out service fee was refunded when we decided to buy a new Miele instead of repairing the old one. On sale, the basic model cost under $1000.
My 12 year old Miele washing machine is still going strong. When it eventually dies I will definitely be getting another one. My 13 year old Miele vacuum cleaner, however, is gradually dying (I blame the electric powerhead - which, interestingly, they no longer do). But after looking at alot of reviews have decided to get another one. Mieles are solid and - if a little unexciting - incredibly good value for money when you consider how long they live for.

My 05 Miele 1215 had 10,246 cycles on it, as of 3/1/17 and is still going strong.
@Thorn Beta 5 retired in 2019 with 15K cycles. It became subject to commercial use running a dog grooming company out of the house. Replaced with a W1.
@Thorn Beta 5 It likely wont. It is not the equivalent of my 1215 from a build perspective. I have a little giant (PW-3035?) that is - or even superior to the 1215 but the price on that is pretty high.
@ThornBeta5 Pretty good so far mostly normal, dark, quick intense and wrinkle free. Im bummed I cant get a blank twindos cartridge so I fill/ refill them on my own which is kind of a pain, but the unit has been solid.
I've had a Miele W4842 for almost six trouble-free years now and am most pleased with it. One thing I did do shortly after I got it was to enter Program Mode and change several settings to suit me, including lowering the maximum extract speed to 1200 RPM so it can enjoy a longer life.
Sold! Im going to replace my Zanussi Washer Dryer and my Neff Dishwasher with Miele.
Mind you Zanussi is a good brand.

Zanussi has been reduced to a medium quality brand now imo and I don’t think their washers will last like they used to (life before drum bearings fail is now about 10 years, far less than Miele (based on a neighbours experience).
My Mother has a 17 year old John Lewis model JLRC101 dual fuel range style stainless steel double oven cooker which is made by AEG. It looks great but the oven heating element reliability has been poor and, at 16 years old, repairers were saying that parts are becoming hard to find (but when they realised we weren’t going to buy a new cooker then suddenly the spares were found 😂).
In the 70s & 80s Zanussi offered longevity approaching Miele for a lot less money but they appear to have changed their approach ….. they probably had to (since the market probably wouldn’t accept further increases in the price).
Notwithstanding, 10 years for a washer doing 3 wash cycles a week is fair enough considering the mid range price of Zanussi washers nowadays compared to Miele.
My Zanussi DW401 dishwasher is about 37 years old and is still going although the programmer does stick from to time nowadays (mind you it’s only used about once every 7 days or so since I live solo). Unlike many dishwashers nowadays it does have a rinse & hold cycle which is useful for those, like me, that only slowly fill it up before running the wash cycle.
Hi Andrew great review on the best domestic washingmachine brand by far. Others just cut to many corners now a days ! And threw the years the Miele family have remained true to its values.

I received my miele W1 capdos in aprill, I love the pre iron feature, shirt feature and proofing feature. I love the easy access zero water spillage pump that I can clean out regular without destroying my floor. But; Within 3 months the circuit board failed, (miele changed it under guarantee (10yr)) The engineer told me that the ten year guarantee is only based upto 5 washes per week or so many hours of washing. As there is no way to tell if you have gone over you could expect a huge bill from Miele if you contact them thinking your machine is under guarantee? (Hmmm, Don't Germans separate colours, textiles or have families and bedding? I smell a rat because I'm pretty sure they do!) anyway I've had my washer less that six months and unfortunately I've had to call out miele again because my washer says Heater Fault! now. I'm told They will fix it but the fact that my miele is less than six months old and has already two major faults. I'm starting to worry that this machine is a lemon. Miele I'm told will fix but won't change it. When these machines are sold for Upwards of £1000 and supposed to come with a (10yr warranty nicely stuck to the machine in the shop) You don't expect it to fail within a year let alone twice within 6 months. I'm not convinced these machines are built to last anymore. I'm feeling slightly conned and regret buying it.
As a fair point though: The people from Miele are lovely and try to re-assure you and I know people who have had these machines for several years without fault.. and upon their experience I too went down the Miele route.
I do hope this will be fixed Idealy Swapped for a new one... but it doesn't make me confident that this machine will be cost effective or last. I'm posting my experience so people have a non biassed review.

So Miele Changed the washing machine (sent the cheaper one) So I rejected it and stated I'm going to get my money back from the store because I aren't paying for the cheaper model, If I'd have wanted it, I would have purchased it. So They exchanged it for the next one up. I was happy with this. 2 x years in, the element failed, so they changed that to. Since then, (and I really don't want to jinx it) it has worked fine. I do get told there is fluff in the jets even when I have just cleaned it all out (once a month) The engineer states it's programmed to tell you every-so often, so not to worry about it. (he came to look at the dishwasher and I asked why it tells me it even after a full clean). My Previous Bosch lasted 12 years without going faulty (we changed the brushes a couple of times, but other than the brushes there were no problems with it).
Would I purchase another after this one? On my experience until now? No! However, if it lasts another 10 years then yes!
All I can say is that you have had amazing bad luck (or you work for Bosch !! 😄😄).
Interesting that the Machine presumably has an elapsed time / wash cycle counter regarding the 10 year / 5 washes a week guarantee, I don't think I'll be caught out by it since I wash my bed linen roughly every 4 months whether it needs it or not 😄.
I believe that Miele can be very contractural, my boss had a Miele dishwasher and it failed just a couple of months out of the one year (I think) guarantee back in the 1980s. I think it was the programmer but i can't remember. He complained that he would expect a Miele to last far longer but to no avail, he had to pay for the repair.
N.B. My parents & I both have had Miele front loaders (one a standard machine with the DC main motor and one higher up the range with the 3 phase (brushless) main motor) for 14 years now without a single problem. The machine with the standard DC motor is used about 4 - 5 times a week and the brushes are still the original.
@@Martindyna 😂 No. I do not, nor have ever worked for Bosch. As I stated, I know many people who have owned their Miele's many years without fault. Touch wood, still so far so good.
@@yorkshirehousewife784 The W1 series was pretty new when you first bought it and it had construction problems especially with the electronics and the spinner assembly. These problems have been mostly ironed out with later revisions.
Miele is still much better quality than other brands and i'm a huge fan but they don't build their machines like they used to.
I recently got a '91 Novotronic series in near mint condition and it is built like a tank, very serviceable (You can open the whole front like a door and reach everything, schematics are included) and foolproof.
Their service technicians are very competent but equally expensive and i take offense at their uptight practice of letting the customer pay for repairs of known problems. They should just change the machine when it's obviously a dud.
Please make the old sturdy front loaders. My wwd120 miele sucks and the 12000 rinse leaves everything still damp and wet!!
Our Miele washing machine lasted 15 years & was used less frequently than what the company says it tests it machines for. Had a Miele technician out to fix it only to be told it was unrepairable due to it being a bearings issue
But the best reason for me to buy a Miele? my best friend bought a MIELE from ,John Lewies Peter Jones ( or was it called John Lewies brothers?) in 1974 at their Holloway road Branch North London It never ONCE broke down but in the end after years of moaning his wife finally won n they replaced it with Another MIELE Maybe a Hose broke once but am Not 100% sure, when I was self employed (electrician) a very messy job rewiring a house with people living in as every day furniture are moved carpets up floorboards wall channels hatched out for the plastic tubes n cables plastered over it was a very hard messy job n borrowing their vacuumed to clean the floor every evenings I was SHOCKED at how well a MIELE vacuum cleaner was actually collecting the dust every evening them days at home we had a Hoover plenty of noise n heat n very little suction? But the MIELE would almost lift the carpet up it was that good them days Nothing Zero would even come close to a MIELE, Not even the US made Kirby that was selling for a £1000 Plus I do Not believe there is a Better company than MIELE on earth in the products they manufacture

These are the wash times, and maximum load you can put in on each specific wash. You can see how easy it would be to go over your hours. Thats not to mention should you wish to delay your wash.. Would an 8h delay class as a 10h wash? Those wishing to use economy 7 really should find out.
The video mentions they spin the drum with an unbalanced load for x amount of hours, which causes the most wear and tear on the machine. It's not correct to analyze this based on cycle times, rather you would analyze the 20 year period based on spin times, which are typically under 10 minutes per load.

I definitely agree with your statements that warranty terms should be straightforward and plain. Though I can also see why manufacturers also put in 10 years or x hours of use/cycles, which I think is common when it comes to warranty terms (i.e. car warranties, even my blender has a 8 years or x cycles term limit). Without the x time limit the manufacturer could end up having to warranty a machine that was used 20 times a day for 9 years, which would be considered commercial use of the machine and would far exceed the quality of parts engineered for the machine.
I do believe that the terms a warranty is limited by should be easily accessible by the consumer so they can see where they stand. In your case, being able to look up operating hours on the machine or app.
As a side note, Miele in the US often has a promotion for a free 5 year warranty on machines purchased during holidays. Is there something similar where you're at?

Sorry to hear that you have been disappointed by Miele, these are the manufacturer's claims and not ours. From my own personal experience these claims are correct.

Miele use DC motors with brushes for their standard machines true, but for their premium models they use a 3 phase induction motor which of course is AC & brushless 1:42
As of today they only build and sell the W1 series which all have the same 3 phase induction motor. No more brushes.

WCA 030 WCS Active, WEA 025 WCS Active .... both on sale in the UK for £ 669.00 the bullet points mention the ProfiEco motor but it is not mentioned in the `Your exclusive advantages' bit underneath. On more expensive models the ProfiEco motor (which I assume is the 3 phase motor since it is stated that it is `driven by an inverter') IS mentioned under `Your exclusive advantages'.
N.B. Regarding the ProfiEco motor in faint font it is stated that `features depend on model'.

Not all stainless drum. Drum support (back side of drum)is made by cast aluminum. My Miele drum is corroded then broken.
New machines as of summer 2020 have steel drum support again because of this.

The new machines are nowhere as good as the older ones were . I made the mistake of buying the latest model and so regret it .
My 2007 purchased miele prestige plus washing machine went pop 3 weeks ago after 16 years, engineer called out and told me one of the 3 legs on the drum had snapped and repairs would be around £ 500 , so I've bought and had delivery today 17/3/23 of miele wca020, its a touch screen model but it is not of the quality of my outgoing model , ie the printed txt on older models were all back printed so you couldn't clean the facia wording off , this new model has the txt printed directly on the facia front which means in time it will wear off .the door bezel was all chrome, new one plastic, the words MADE IN GERMANY, no longer appears on the front , don't get me wrong my new machine is still a weighty affair but I really don't think it will last as long as my prestige plus 😢. Sad thing is when my old washing machine was being taken away it still looked as good as the day I bought it back in 2007.
@@peterstudley1804 Your experience sounds similar to mine. We have had a Miele since 2008 & a fortnight ago it developed a problem. Paid an all inclusive price (about £270) for a Miele technician to fix it only to be told it was “unrepairable”, ie it was a drum/bearings issue & would have cost too much to fix. We have had it for 15 years & use it about 3 times a week so it’s used well below stated Miele usage performance. It had been a great machine until now. looking on the forums it seems as if only the more expensive Mieles are built in Germany - entry level models are now built in Poland (I heard they were built in Czech Republic for a while)

Please do not believe the 20-year life pitch. Our W4800 washing machine has fallen apart (literally - leaks and disintegrated plastic frame and control panel) after 4 years. Our dishwasher lasted about the same time frame. Not only these Miele machines are expensive to buy they are also expensive to fix, which means you are looking at buying a new machine every few years. Doesn't make sense to spend all that money for a few years' use.

They often run free 5-year guarantees during sales events (most holidays). Unfortunately, certain things have to give to keep their machines within a price index that consumer's are willing to pay. Fortunately, Miele is one of the last appliance manufacturers that do design for longevity and dependability vs the countless others that go for a lower price but make up the avg. 7 year lifespan under average use.
Yeah. Right. 20 years. At 8 years the solenoid failed. $350. At10 years the controller switch failed $250. At 11years the solenoid went again, twice.Just buy one for a quarter of the price and replace every 5 years. That's how to get 20 years worth.
My six year old miele dryer is done according to repairman today.
Used by family of 2 who are away several months a year so verrrry light use.
The drum doesn't turn, and upon opening the top the belt was broken. The serviceman said because drum would barely turn that this meant some sort of bearing was gone and that repair would cost 500.00 plus and that it wouldn't be reliable.

Sounds like the repairman was trying to overcharge you. Do a DIY repair, it's not too hard.
Had to wait 2 wks and pay $200 plus parts for a miele service call, but they fixed it for total $250 in half an hour. Got a refund from the first repair shop after i told them. I would advise miele owners to deal only with miele direct for repairs.

i dont know if they are sold in the UK but i have a Miele W5873 edition 111 it doesnt say in the user manual but do i have to clean the pump filter or does the machine that. Can someone please answer my question!
If you are talking about the filter that's on the bottom left side, you have to check it at least once per two months for coins, pins and other stuff that might you have forgotten inside your clothes and to clean it so it doesn't gather up any slime. But if you mean the pump filter that's inside the washing machine you will have to call a technician (preferably from a Miele dealer) to check it.
I have the W5963 and W665F washing machines and the T8967 WP Eco Comfort drier, the dealer -who also offers a service- advised me to do a maintenance service every 3-4 to check if there is any wear and tear or other problem, the cost is 70 for all 3 machines by the way so if you are in UK it should cost around 45 quids.

Does Canada base washing machine sizes on drum capacity or washing weight? If by capacity, all Miele machines have a 2.26 cuft drum. If you go for their Little Giant model it's a 2.6 cuft drum. In the US the only Miele machines available are 8 KG, which is actually the same weight most full-sized machine can accomodate.

I am sorry to have to say that you are mistaken as I am the proud owner of a Miele washer that is 25 years old, still going like the first day I started using it. And the dryer of the same brand which I got later on is also working flawlessly after 17 years. Admittedly the purchase price is high to many people, but it is well worth it. I can't comment on your "egg vs chocolate" (may depend on other factors) but I can certainly say that my clothes come out clean.

i bought one and it's excellent,whisper quiet very pleased,i also bought a miele m6012 microwave oven and it's absolutely SHITE!.

So why has mt 34 yr old Servis only had a door seal because it was mouldy? The machine has had a hard life, doing over 7 loads a week and it's never broken. And the drum has 2 lines of slits which gives better results than the honey comb drum. And why put a guarantee on the lifters? You aren't the only brand with metal lifters.

@@davidbillyard6629 Well placed bet. Bosch and Siemens are the same company (BSH - Bosch Siemens household appliances). They are not only made in the same factories, their models are the same 1 for 1. Only difference is design.

BTW: Siemens has nothing do with the company anymore, it is now owned solely by Bosch but they are still allowed to use Siemens' brand name.
I have a w1213 washer. Great machine for 12 years. Something is loose and jamming up between the drums.5 Service people were called. 3 said they will not work on a Miele machine, 4th said he does not know where to get parts and the service man recommended by the selling dealer said I will charge you for the service call, charge you for time working on machine to find the problem. I will leave and order parts. Charge fir the return service call plus time of repair. Your better off to junk the machine and buy a new one. Thats the reply from the service tech recommened by the selling dealer. Don't get all the good reviews when no one will work on this product

I guess your "Immer Besser" Miele was what our Maytag washers were to the US. There are still many Maytag washers running from the early 70's with maybe a belt change in all that time.
They may not have been the best washers in every category, but cleaned very well and were the longevity champs by far with the fewest repairs.
Whirlpool/Kenmore machines would probably be the 2nd longest lived washers.

When you compromise you have to reduce cost somewhere. I am all for higher prices if the quality matches those prices....today that isn't the case......quality and price no longer go hand in hand.
They have to be expensive since they have to wait along time for you to hopefully buy another one .

Intertesting for sure BUT I find it odd that you proudly mention 10,000 washes as your clearly showing and referring to a Miele domestic machine. As a Miele employee? I sure that your very well aware that Miele considers anything above 8,000 washes as commercial use and thus will invalidate your warranty after 8,001 washes. Also, why is it that Miele loves to scream about "designed to last 20 years" YET when it comes to Miele putting there money where there mouth is on many machines you get the absolute STATUTORY EU Legal MINIMUM of 2 years? To put that into context a £155 Beko has the same warranty as a Miele costing what, 600% plus MORE.

Interesting. But he said 10,000 hours. I heard Miele claims 5 washes per week for 20 years - appox 5,000 cycles
sera̾ph you can extend the warranty to 10 years for 200€. I think they only offer that. I was almost buying an LG for the same price but then I reckoned their washing results was better.
You mentioned beko, be sure Beko is a crap machine, been there done that., made the switch and can't be happier

Don't buy their vacuum cleaners. 20 years! Forget it ours died after 2 1/2 years of light domestic use. Miele didn't want to know. Never again

The vast majority of washing machines are no longer built to last because planned obsolescence equals more profits. This is why spare parts are so expensive - so as to price the consumer out of repairs and forcing them to buy a new washing machine. This includes the German brands like Bosch and Siemens.
At least with a Miele machine you'll know it will work for at least a decade.

A Miele washing machine is better than a BSH (Bosch/Siemens) machine. Because it uses better quality materials such as a stainless steel drum, high quality pump and motor. The price is about the same nowadays, a Bosch machine with automatic dosing is 1000 euros, just as much as a Miele W1.

They wash good and they had place to repair.The New Drum that they had the last 10years ,are not bad.But they had too much Electronic now,it is the first that can go down.My 20 Year old lives, because they had not that Gimmiks.Now they are in Energysaver-Madness.The Machines saves not much more then 20 year old Machines, but to geta good Energylabel, they make a Eco-Programm wich takes 4 Hours.Only this Programmsave the Energy, and nobody want to wait 4 Hours.And they dont calculate in Washloadsthey use Energy per Hour.If the Washload take 4 Hours, the Energy per Hour is less,but not the Energy for a Washload.Other Manufactors use cheaper Materials and
the have sink the Livetime to 8-6 years.If you buy all 6 years a new one,what Energyis needed to manufact all these Mashines?There is no Energysaving at all andyou have to pay Tax every Time.

These machines are Very complicated ,Not practical ,Very Expensive ,Needs periodical professional technicians for silly resettings (extra cost for nothing),
These machines are main cause of depression!

These machines are overpriced and I hate 'em. LG's are much more better than those and they don't have the Direct Drive system like LG's.

They’re not overpriced considering how premium it is and the washing results. It also takes amazing care of your clothes which many machines doesn’t. It also last 20 years so it truly is better than any LG. Have you had a Miele washing machine since you clearly know so much about LG being better which it isn’t even close to being?

Wait, what? Where did he pretend to be the CEO? If he works at Miele, what's wrong with saying "our washing machines"? I work at a hospital, and - when talking to people abt my job - I probably say "our staff", "our patients", "our equipment", etc. It doesn't mean I am the owner or CEO of the hospital.

Past 5 years I had two washers from siemens. Both were broken. Unless they are over filled the drum slams against the side and makes noise or just wont spin. My next washer will be a miele. Stay away from all siemens products as it is no longer siemens. A group of unknown investors bought the name. That's fraud if you ask me! That's typical Germany!
