      It's called German engineering. Italians are no better. Ferrari 355 required US$10,000 from the owner to remove the engine to change the timing belt.

    Other things to watch:
    1. Rear Differential (Part of gearbox. Audi want £15K+)
    2. Front Differential (Audi want £5K)
    3. Clutch (Gearbox needs to be removed. Audi would charge £5K)
    For any of the above, best to find a good specialised independent, who is used to performing the work.
    I had a rear diff problem, and Audi refuses to repair/replace individual parts. They only supply a new box.
    An independent will remove, and repair using parts from Lamborghini, who DO supply individual parts. The drivetrain is same as a Gallardo.
    I speak from experience. 08 V8 R8.

    Why are you trying to validate how well the car is made if your always saying that some things fail within the 20k to 40k and how expensive they are to replace correctly, also you are replacing with aftermarket parts not OEM, I know because of cost but if our going to own this "super" car do it justice. Crazy to think that you are filling this car with aftermarket parts during your ownership and when you sell the car you ask top dollar for it as if it was stock. But its not is it!! Im doing research about an R8 because i'm interested in purchasing one soon but now I can watch out on things people cheap out on and I can negotiate the TRUE cost of the car. Just remind people not to go cheap on tyres, the Michelin’s are ADAC German tester as the best and they should be kept in good condition, if too low on mm of rubber then you’re playing with your life.
    Conti winter contact is what I have on my winters. You can go down a size with winter alloys. Again the manual confirms it.
    A 10 year old car, wisely needs new suspension again its a safety thing. Check that your bushes are fine. I changed mine to Powerflex. These last the lifetime.
    In the uk servicing at an Indy is £650. It’s TTRS territory. It certainly was supercar. It’s not hypercar, the new cars are getting crazy faster like the new ttrs.
    Switzerland insurance is far more, as well as our road tax and fuel prices.
    Don’t forget to reseal your under chassis. There’s a great article by a German old timers group that tested the best products to use.
    Happy safe driving!

    Audi says that is normal to burn oil, but it is not. They have a poor design and material of the pistons. Same issue on most audis from 2008-2012. For mine, I had to rebuild the engine and now it does not burn any oil.

    • @carswithsonduren

      You're right a lot of their cars in those years had the same problem. But Audi is not fessing up to it. Using castor oil actually help reduce the oil burner and I have heard

    I’m 18 making 5000 a month after taxes , I’m looking to buy a 09 Audi R8 r tronic transmission , my question is at 5000$ a month do you think I could afford this? and secondly with the r tronic do they out or is there any thing you have to replace with the automatic?

    • @carswithsonduren
      @carswithsonduren  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey brother welcome to the channel. Everyone's financial picture is so completely different it is hard to say. I would suggest you need to feel comfortable to the point where you have lots of extra free cash flow. I have made many videos of the R8 you should watch there are some major maintenance items that require a fair bit of cash but it's actually not that bad. Compared to a supercar it is very cheap. you will need to look at your running costs including insurance to determine if you can comfortably afford it. My last piece of advice while I always need to make grounded financial decisions, you only live once and life can be very short so all the best in your journey to get your dream car :-)

    A few questions:
    1. For owners with the dual clutch transmission, do the clutches wear fast?
    2. How much does clutch replacement cost on a DC-equipped R8?
    3. Is the car difficult to get a jack under? Does it have good jack points for oil changes at home, or for repair of the AC (at home)?
    4. Is a 2006-2008 Porsche Carrera 4S a good equivalent car to a 2006-2008 R8? It seems that the Porsches in that range have less maintenance issues (IMS is the biggest issue by far for the Porsches; it seems you won't have to worry about recurring failures of parts with the Porsches like the R8 does with the AC).

    • @carswithsonduren
      @carswithsonduren  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. Not that I am aware of
      2. $8k with labor roughly but each shop is different
      3. It has Jack points with an adapter but doing an oil change at home under jack stands is going to be really difficult because there are so many things you have to remove etc
