    Am I the only one who wishes they could rebuild these original buildings, as they were then, today? People need solid history that can't be brushed under the rug. Not to mention the architecture back then had so much more love and style to it.

      There's another series of documentaries on this channel that focus on an archaeological project to build a medieval castle using only the tools available at the time (while following modern safety precautions of course.) Might be something you'd be interested in!

    Realistically a medieval hospital wasn't just a hospital but pretty close to what now days we would call a hostel as well. Fascinating.

    • @johannaholmgren8088
      @johannaholmgren8088 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, the root word for hospital, hostel and hotel is the same. They WERE hospitals (hospitality) but they would have accommodations for travellers and pilgrims. Over time, hospitals, hostels and hotels became separated. Hospitals were run by religious, for whom it was a vocation.

    I’m impressed how decent the church interior looks. For a church that survived aerial bombing during WWII, the columns and arches don’t appear reconstructed.

      Mick had suffered from depression most of his life. In the last couple years of the show they brought in other people, whilst letting the main characters go~like Helen. She was replaced with a fashion model, who, in all fairness, had studied archeology. But Mick saw that as taking away from the show. Alex (from the different "farm" series, with Ruth and Peter) joined but he couldn't save it.
      Don't forget this was Mick and Tony's dream show. They'd been friends for years and had apparently discussed this show for a decade. So Mick saw the show as "his" and Tony's. When they started switching it up, without consult, Mick quit the show.
      Plus his health was failing. His asthma was almost uncontrollable. And he was suffering, according to interviews with those who knew him.
      So~his loss of his dreams for Time Team plus his failing health lead to his suicide. He was an atheist and often said he'd die on his own terms. And, true to his word, he did.
      I'm sorry you didn't know. And Tony, Mick and Phil WERE Time Team. I thought they made a brilliant team.

    Can somebody please get Phil a pair of nail clippers?

    • @tessjuel
      @tessjuel 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      But he needs those nails to play the guitar! Nails like that are a dead giveaway if you want to know if somebody plays fingerpicking or classical guitar. Moderately long and carefully shaped nails on the right hand to pluck the strings and very short ones on the left hand to keep them from interfering with the fretting.

    • @ibl82

    'important for the defense of Britain, heres a map of 1540' Yep great history, Scotland was a separate Kingdom at war with England at that period. Ulster remained free and unconquered by the English at that stage..Go back to University and you will find that the union of the crowns took place in the 1600s but the union of the parliaments took place in the eraly 1700s then they united the Irish parliament (anglo-Irish) with the UK parlimanet in the 1800s. Typical English whitewashing of history which to fit the English agenda as always
