    I can't believe it's been over a year since I posted the first part of this experimental process! I'm glad to say that after some more tries I finally have a full tutorial for you all. Thanks to everyone who has been sticking around and still subscribing even though it's been months since I've posted XD My viewers are really sweet and it's comforting to know that no longer how long I'm gone, you'll still enjoy my videos ^ ^ I hope you enjoy this one as well and stay safe!

      Also!! For anyone who sees this I would suggest using a filtered mask when working with resin. It's not good for your health to inhale it! So use a ventilated area and a filtered mask ^^ 💖

      REALLY REALLY LATE REPLY but, do I use any type of resin? example UV resin or is it a specific type of resin that I have to use?

  • @sorohye
    @sorohye 3 ปีที่แล้ว +57

    I think there are a few way to improve the result and also lessen the time consuming by;
    1) use silicone mat (with this the bottom part when you cast the resin will also appear shiny as the upper part and also it's easy to remove)
    2) maybe you can use pvc clear a4 rigid sheet for the mold cast
    3) cut the design first then laminate it and then cut it again or myb you can print it on clear sticker paper and spray a fixing spray on it and cut (so that the design won't ruin)
    This will make it appear shiny so that no need to sanding it.
    (If you need to sanding it there is a tool for sanding the edges and there is a tool for polishing the resin that looks like nail polishing tool)
    I hope this will help you 💕thanks for the video now finally i get the idea to create one too!💕

      Thank you for all of these tips! I will admit I dont buy materials often and try to work with what I have, but a silicone mat would've been really usefull lol
      Pvc seems like it work great though!
      Funny thing is that I had actually bought a spray to try instead of the brush method, and it didnt work lol. But I bet there's a spray out there that does! I hope everyone reads these tips because this can definitely help someone out ^ ^

    For the mold, in case you're planning on keep making more charms on the long run, maybe it's more practical to trace the shape of the charm onto a thick foam board and use that to cast a silicon mold? I think there are two part silicon putty available for things like that. Plus the end result will become more even and will need a lot less sanding

    (Updated! )(also had to update this again due to spelling errors XD) this is so helpful! thank you! i cant wait till my resin arrives i will be following your tutorial and i'm gonna try to update this comments in a week
    Update:
    Tried this out with my friend and it work great! Just gonna add in some tips and stuff so that if anyone reads this and tries it out they will less likely make the same mistakes as us lol.
    1. So the first error I’ve encountered was actually the drawings being printed out the wrong size, we had to adjust the size 2 or three times so that it was a nice size.
    2. The drawings came out blurry so we ended up using some colored pens and lining the outside so that it looked less blurry
    3. After it was cut out we were gluing it and flattening it but unfortunately a few drops of glue made small parts of my drawing change color, I ended up not making my resin charm that day because I didn’t want to cut my drawing out again. I just helped my friend with their charm instead. So try to be very careful because too much glue can change the color of your print!!
    4. After realizing that the glue will change the color of the printed art my friend used clear tape to seal their design
    5. This one is the last mistake. (Probably the biggest one too) And this mistake was that my friend’s mold was leaky. When we poured in the resin there were cracks in the mold that made the resin leak out! So when you make your mold double check for cracks and uneven parts to prevent leaking. If your mold does happen to leak try to add some more hot glue to the side or stuff toilet paper around it so that the resin doesn’t leak too much.
    also one more thing, even covering the design with tape, you can still end up with those grey wet spots. I think doing one layer of mod podge and one layer of tape would be safer!
    So my friend’s charm came out a little bit uneven because of the leakage but that's alright because I guess I can sand it even for them
    Hope these tips helped! Also make sure to do some safety research on resin before using it! Resin is a chemical and can harm your body if you inhale or touch it

    U can also seal the print in clear sticker so that colours won't spoil, put a piece of clear tape on it's glossy side so that the charm won't need smoothening afterwards, seal the paper directly into the resin with no mold, cut it (the resin) and smooth it on the sides afterwards. Makes it easier to me

    So make acrylic charms using zero acrylic... this is an epoxy charm sigh.

      Acrylic sheets and laser cutting machines are pretty hard to come by, so I thought it would be helpful to show an at-home way to make these! Although you're right, these are technically non acrylic acrylic charms 😂
