I remember watching this when it was on tv
Nua was typical of most men who are abusive to significant others and friends. Only a small percentage of these men are antisocial (sociopaths)personalities. Most are men who simply never developed the coping skills needed to deal with problems in a mature healthy way.
Being an abuser and a good person is not mutually exclusive. And most genuinely love their partners/spouses. Nua actually being willing to get help took some real guts. This case opened doors not only for victims to be willing to come forward but first the abusers being willing to get help.
Far fewer men are willing to seek psychological help for the same reasons that males who are battered being far less likely to go to the police. There’s a stigma on men attached to these situations. There’s something wrong with men who find themselves in these situations. They’re ashamed.
Its so much easier to see the victim as weak and the men as psychopathic monsters. Especially the latter. Very few men get into relationships and fall in love thinking IM SO LOOKING FORWARD TO USING HER AS A PUNCHING BAG. I realize that many other men come out of dysfunctional families and don’t end up being dangerous to people who get close to them. I think this has alot to do with innate resiliency.
Nua checked all the boxes for borderline personality disorder. Unable to regulate his emotions and a profound intense fear of abandonment. Most cases of borderline personality disorder are attributed to women. But nearly half are also men. We just don’t hear about it as much. Who wants a stigma placed on them? Nua became willing to get help. I admire him for that.
Btw…the brother WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO? House payment is due? WTF?? GET A FUCKING JOB!!! That’s what adults do. Not expecting others to keep paying their way.
