    I strongly feel that Filipinos have the tendency to seek external validation to have that sense of pride with ourselves. I think it stems from the fact that we've lost a huge chunk of our original heritage in the past when Conquistadors purged and burnt a lot of cultural writings and artifacts to effectively subjugate our people. It's only fortunate that there are still ones that were preserved, these were the traditions, livelihood skills, poems and dances. This is a good video, quite educational.

    Ovela, when I was growing up I kept hearing "Filipinos are lazy" and from where I stood that is exactly what I saw. Fast forward to 38 years later when I migrated to the US, I witnessed and knew Filipinos having 2 jobs or more ( I myself tried having 3 jobs at one time: 8-5 , 6-12mn and weekends ). I realized it had a lot to do with where these Filipinos are and the ones back home had very few opportunities to find jobs. But all that has changed now. Filipino professionals and skilled workers are in demand all over the world. In my hometown, I know for a fact that 1 out of every 3 families have at least one family member who's working in another country.

    Not to generalize, but I believe 90% of Filipino men I know are not lazy, they are just not agitated, not tensed but they will act as needed and necessary. The Filipino men I know are the breadwinners of their family, so household chores are left to the women, still, the men are the ones doing the plumbing, carpentry, fixing electrical even after their work or on their rest days

    Those conjugations are really interesting. Some of them don’t exist in English as concepts. What’s tricky with those conjugations is that, each of them, they express a unique relationship between the subject and the object and sometimes an observer (someone or something that is neither the subject nor the object) In English, you have to express it some other way, with longer words or phrases. That is why, in one sense, Tagalog is simpler.

    I am not sure where is the "Lazy Filipino men" came from. But Filipinos are generally sought after in terms of employment because they are hard working like a carabao. Maybe the "lazy" impression is coming from the view of a Filipina having a relationship or married to Filipino men. Traditionally and culturally, women are mostly doing house chores and men goes out to work. It is a casual complaint here that "my husband don't do chores at home, very lazy!". That was passed down to generations and still exists today. It is quite changing now since women are more empowered and due to economical needs of the families, both the mother and the father are in need to work.

    Hi Ovela! Thank you for your efforts to promote Filipino culture and artistry through your platform. While you’ve praised Filipinos for their kindness and relational nature, I hope this isn’t merely an attempt to appeal to the Filipino ego, as many of our people are often seeking self-validation and struggling with a sense of patriotism. This can lead to increased engagement, which might benefit your channel monetarily.
    The emphasis on Filipino values like kapwa (shared identity) and bayanihan (community spirit) is often overstated, as these traits are universal and found in many cultures. Having lived in Europe for nearly 30 years, I’ve observed that kindness, relationality, and cooperation are not exclusive to Filipinos; they are human traits.
    Filipinos are welcoming to foreigners, often due to a colonial mentality that places other races, especially white ones, on a pedestal. However, this openness contrasts sharply with how Filipinos often treat each other, where social status heavily influences behavior. There is a tendency to be depreciating or dismissive toward those perceived as lower on the social ladder.
    A closer look at daily life in the Philippines, including our political culture and societal interactions, reveals a more complex reality. The country faces significant challenges such as social inequality, inadequate education, and widespread poverty, pushing many Filipinos to seek opportunities abroad to support their families. Your perspective might still be influenced by the “honeymoon phase” of your relationship with the country. Over time, you may come to see the Philippines as just one of those affordable and less complicated third-world countries, with its own set of struggles. Peace!

    @TheFilipinoFilmMaker 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

    On the point that somebody told you that Filipino men are too lazy. I beg to disagree. Yes, of course, there are lazy men and women amongst us Filipinos, but in general, Filipino men are extremely hardworking. This is why in the Philippines, we have a term called "KAYOD KALABAW" which means "To work ashard as a water buffaloo." This term originated from the fact that the Philippines is a highly agricultural country and the carabao / kalabaw (a type of water buffaloo) is the animal that assists farmers in ploughing the fields in preparation for planting. And because of our highly relational culture, Filipino men work extremely hard in order to provide not just for themselves but for their families as well. On your next trip to the Philippines, observe that we do not have nursing homes or aged care homes for our elderly. That is also because Filipino men (and women as well) believe that it is our responsibility to take care of our aging parents. So most of our old parents live with us. Most Fiipino men, not all, but most Filipino men are extremely hardworking.
    Again, there will be rotten apples among us, but that is to be expected because we live in an imperfect and sinful world.
    So whoever it was who told you that Filipino men are too lazy to work, clearlyhas a very limited experience with Filipino men, and very narrow-minded perspective on Filipino men.
    Let me guess? The person who told you that was a Pinay / a Filipina? Hahaha!
    Just so you know, take every Filipina's words with a grainof salt when it comes to theur opinion on Filipino men.
    A lot of Filipina women, and this is the truth, are dreaming of bagging / marrying an AFAM (foreigner). This desire is influenced by western media and even a lot of Korean Dramas where foreign men are presented to be more handsome, more rich and more secure.
    So again, whenever you hear a Filipinas complain about Filipinos, take it with a grain of salt.
    Immerse yourself amongst Filipinos for a longer period of time and make a first-hand evaluation of our people.

  • @user-cl7nc1be3m
    @user-cl7nc1be3m 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I beg to disagree on the said filipino men are lazy.
    Big no! I believe in every country there's no similar life status, no 100% similar attitude and no 100% similar life perspective.
    Usually even other fil men who don't have complete education, they're the most dedicated, gentle, hardworking, heartworking, industrious, respectful, submissive, respectful and creative to win a happy-lucky family or to be productive in life.
    If someone said that to you, Possibly she's not just into filipino men in term of breeding or she just made it as an excuse to never into peso earning that's why she did not see the total great core value and great attitude of filipino men.
    Inshort, there's no lazy people in philippines especially fil men cos our old to now culture has been always pretty clear and stable on
    "Men is the root of the family who needs to function as much as he can in any way to have a productive family."
    And that's what philippines has until now.
    "Mostly filipinos esp fil men are into capable of doing everything but in a chill and lowkey way" (PERIOD)
    I drop this opinion not bcos Im a filipina I need to cover co-filipino men, but I do this because fil men don't deserve hate, judgment and false info about them from those other filipinas who do not like them in term of income wise or blood to be multipled.
