My mom threw me on a computer to play educational games starting when I was 3 or 4 (the year was '95 or '96). She worked a lot, so it was her way of making sure I got some additional learning in without her. From there I taught myself ALOT about computers. MySpace actually gave me my first experience coding, but I thought I liked graphic design better, so I took that path. Fast forward to 2017 and I realized I HATED designing. Just because you're good at something, doesn't mean you'll love it.
I found out about a Grow with Google scholarship through Udacity for front-end development. The rest is history. I was blessed enough to land a junior role a month after receiving my nanodegree. I've been at this job ever since, but am very stagnant. Looking to up my skills and you teach SO well. Glad I came across your channel.

I am related to your history, at least the first part lol. my dream was to be a football player too, I couldn't do it and that really led me into an unknown world, because it was my only passion. I also learn to fix computers from my uncle but I didn't go into that because I have a fight with him and I left work and I just didn't have the time to consider it as my career. I ended studying Biology but without a real passion for that. when the pandemic hit, everything changed and I get into coding for curiosity and I am really loving it, I am learning C++ while I am still finishing my career. I am 24, really concerned because I feel I am too old but I guess it's better now than never. I would love to work abroad seeking a new opportunity for me and my family. thanks for your story, encourages me a bit more. greetings from Colombia.

The biggest mistake that you can do in life, is to give up !
I find myself in your story. I was never interested in school, that is why I was pretty bad at everything. Anyway, at the end of high school I decided to go to university and study computer science, because I was thinking that it cannot be that bad. First year was a pain for me, so many strange things, a lot of math, programming, and at the end of first year I failed about 90% of the exams. I was feeling bad, like I can not do anything in this life, I was thinking that everything in life comes easy for others, but not for me. I was feeling so bad, that one day a desire born inside me, a desire to prove that I can be good too if I work hard. I wanted to prove myself that I can do it, if is it possible for others, then for sure it will be possible for me too. I decided to repeat the first year at university and this is the best decision that I took in my entire life. I am proud of it. This happened 8 years ago. Today, I am an engineer and I can tell you that I was working hard, extremely extremely hard, focusing on school just as you said in this video. Nothing in life comes easy.
About three months ago I found you channel. I want to thank you for doing all these lessons, you are amazing and I have learned lots of things from you. You are a mentor for me and I do admire you.

I don't think it's necessarily harder to learn things as an adult. We're taught we suck if we didn't finish yesterday so we deal with impostor syndrome and anxiety and whatnot. But we also have a better grasp of abstract thinking and we know plenty of stuff that a child doesn't. I say this because that's something that worried me learning human languages but now I'm very confident in my language learning skills.
I'm 26 and I've been studying for about a year and honestly I'm starting to feel very comfortable programming. Still gotta deal with random intrusive thoughts every now and then but the point is that you can totally do it if you want to, assuming you have some free time and whatnot. And it's easier if you actually enjoy it. It's okay if you don't quite understand, things get way easier as you do them. Ex: I didn't even understand return statements at first lol. Now I'm a junior backend developer. Best of luck to everyone in this journey!

I started coding with 0 prior knowledge at age 25. I was lucky enough to be able to move to be a junior developer in the company I already worked for and they let me learn whilst I go but I have found it very hard to pick it up and get going. I started to learn just as we went into lockdown so I found it very disrupting to my learning. I am nearly 2 years in to being a developer with not very much knowledge because of covid & being moved around to other projects within my organisation. I found your videos and it is really sparking my interest and motivating me to apply myself more and push hard through this to get my skills up to standard and to make up for lost time now things are back to normal. I work close to London, would love to speak with you to gain some knowledge off you!

The key is to be persistent. Never give up and also don’t be afraid to start learning or to apply to jobs no matter whether you are too young or too old or without any professional experience!
I am a 19 Year old Software Engineer with almost 1 year of professional experience and I also study (Bachelor’s) Informatics computer engineering. So nothing is impossible!!!😁

Nice brother. I have to say that when I joined uni, I just went with the flow without ever putting any effort. My only disadvantage was the language barrier. I just couldn’t understand my lecturers. 😂

I started coding about a year ago and I'm doing computer science at uni. I had originally done bio, chem, physics at college but didn't want to go the Dr/pharmacist route but like the things computer science gives you like being able to make a business, freelance work, career progression etc. Although I'm doing alright I do feel overwhelmed when I'm in uni with people that have been coding since 12 yrs old. This just inspired me thanks. Also if you don't mind me asking what uni did you go?

Do you think I should go uni? I've been working as a junior dev for about 4 years. 2 years in UK( still learning English). Not a big fan of maths🤣. Thank you for sharing you history, it's inspiring 👏🏾🙌🏾

Started coding after university - I was 22. Now im 28, and i wanted to go to master's degree at my local university - it was boring, terrible, i've learned NOTHING NEW. The bad moment of local universities (not for example Moscow State University) that you are learning things that was actual in 90's. Literally: at work - python, django, docker, postgreSQL; at university - PROLOG, C++ 98, philosophy, english level A2. A dont wanna say that is bad, but we dont even be taught abot how to write good code.
