    Boss have released their Katana Artist MkII HEAD along with a new and very capable GA-FC EX Foot Controller. The 0.5W to 100W Head offers five different amp voices, 60 effects, 8 recallable presets + Panel (whatever's dialled up on the panel), Cab Resonance, 'Air Feel' and Mic options for the Cab Sim - tons of great stuff. Have a look! I've got to tell you, I was very surprised by the local RRP. The Katana Artist MkII Head represents good value in my opinion. But that wouldn't mean anything if it didn't sound great too. And it does.
    This is one of the longest videos I've made. There's a lot of good stuff to cover, that's why!
    Today's tools:
    Guitar: 2018 Charvel Pro-Mod HH HT Natural Ash San Dimas. Stock
    Amp: BOSS Katana Artist MkII HEAD direct to Logic via amp's USB out.
    Cables: BOSS
    Strings: Ernie Ball
    Mic: DPA 4166-OC-F-F00-ME Headset Mic (www.dpamicrophones.com) with Sennheiser EWD Transmitter/Receiver (en-us.sennheiser.com/ew-d)
    Camera: GoPro HERO10 Black and Canon D60
    Soundcard: PreSonus Quantum
    Desktop Monitors: PreSonus R80 R-Series Active AMT Studio Monitors (www.presonus.com)
    Computer: 2017 Apple iMac Pro, 2.5 GHz 14-Core Intel Xeon W, 64 GB 2666 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro Vega 64X 16 GB

    This is probably the best Gear demo I have seen, obiously educated himself on the unit, he has an ear for tone and plays superbly, its because of this i am going to pull the trigger on one of these, Thanks Brett youve got yourself a subscriber !

    The Katana head makes for a great grab 'n go rig for gigging with a band. I love how thick and rich the brown setting sounds, especially in the mids.

    WHEW! Man that was a lot of info! There is so much to appreciate about the Katana line. I averaged the cost of all the effects available not including the studio suite and it is HIGH. The Katana is great value - price and performance. The footswitch/controller makes it that much better

    One useful feature you forgot to cover was how to access the DELAY2, which is tied to the REVERB effect button ...
    In the EFFECTS tab, if you go to the REVERB section, you have a drop-down which gives three options - REVERB, REVERB+DELAY, DELAY. The "DELAY" here refers to DELAY2.

    One aspect of all the Katana models is the superb value they represent: I got the combo MkI back in 2018 100 watt and it really is a 'Swiss army knife' of electric guitar, you can record beautifully with it, and you can gig with it along with the GA-FX foot controller, it is a genuinely good solution for rock/blues and even metal players.

    can you get to all those effects etc from the unit itself or do you have to use the computer to access all that stuff?
    i am interest in one, but would run it into my interface via the line out or rec out.
    i would never be using the computer software so if i cant access everything from the actual head then its a deal breaker for me.

    Great demo Brett.
    I still find it amusing that Boss say 100W output, yet the power consumption of this amp (and other katana's) is still only 77W. When I did electrical engineering, the rule of thumb was always output power was a little less than input power - not the other way around. Must be 25% mojo I guess? 😆
    There seems to be a lot of thought from Boss that went into the new model.
    - I reckon that solo channel more amps should have as it makes it so easy to dial in a quick boost on whatever flavour you're on.
    - The new tone studio with the recording and mic settings is also a great idea.
    - Having chain blocks is great (I think they took some inspiration from Fractal on that)
    - Actually changing the control panel to front facing instead of that top facing they've had of past so it's an actual head. No one wanted top controls on a head.

    • @andrewbecker3700
      @andrewbecker3700 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's 50 watts rms, 100 watts max. I have a HD75 Hartke bass combo that consumes 200watts. All that means is they rate it RMS. Peak would consume 150watts. It's not that complicated if you tryn figure something out for yourself sometimes?

    • @peterschmidt9942
      @peterschmidt9942 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andrewbecker3700 Considering BOSS don't actually say what their RMS and peak values are, you would have to assume that most of it is marketing bullshit. But it's more likely RMS is 77W and 100W PP (which would fit into 77WRMS x 1.4=107.8WPP).
      Glad you could clear this up with your Scott Steiner math as you've got your peak and RMS values around the wrong way. Easy mistake to make if you're trying to figure it out for yourself.

    • @andrewbecker3700
      @andrewbecker3700 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@peterschmidt9942 OK, Rick Steiner the dumber brother. I've got nothing wrong. Your clueless obviously. If the input wattage on my 100 Katanas is 77 and the input on my Hartke HD75 is 200. How in your confused mind do I have anything backwards? Keep your gear dreams alive. Maybe someday you'll figure some stuff out too?

    • @peterschmidt9942
      @peterschmidt9942 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewbecker3700 You said your Harke consumes 200W which YOU say is RMS and that its peak is 150W. That would be back to front as RMS is generally 25% lower than PP values. Which is it? Or are you going to pluck some other magic numbers out if the air?
      BTW There's no such power measurement as Wattage.

    • @andrewbecker3700
      @andrewbecker3700 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@peterschmidt9942 Sure can't read, or understand much can you. Let's review. The back of the Katana says its 77watts input. The back of the Hartke says its 200 watts input. The Katana is rated at 100watts. The Hartke is rated at 75 watts. It's not rocket science my friend. The HD75 is rated at RMS and the Boss is rated at peak wattage. Whats soo hard to understand? 2×75=150. 100÷2=50. The remainder of the wattage consumed is to power the other electronics in the combos. Is that clear enough?

    Still no xlr out??? It has stereo processing and a mono out, and when you play live you need to mic it up because the output cuts the amp out when plugged in, I love my katana but now I just use it as a stage monitor and have a boss gx100 going to the front of house, and it's also a pain that the gx100 has no xlr, just makes it bedroom equipment untill they fix this up

      Once you fall into the rabbit hole and get your personal settings programmed to the footswitch, you're done and never have to buy another pedal again. It's so versatile and fun to explore. Set it and forget it. 8 selectable tones that you decide. There are also tons of free setups from other players, including professionals ready at your fingertips. Bottom line is you will learn so much about tone shaping to your ear at the touch of a button. Get one for your house and try it. I love tube amps too. I have this head w/2- 2X12 Waza Craft 160w cabs. It's incredible.

    I wonder... how important is the actual guitar with these new amp emulators/profilers/modelers/whatever? I mean... Does the cheapest Epiphone will sound just as good as a Custom Shop because all this sound is emulated and processed by the amp to sound just as that? Where does the actual sound quality of the guitar stands when using these amps? Does it matter anymore?

    Being only 40 USD cheaper then the combo tells me they are liquidating the MKII. I had a feeling Boss was going to do something scummy like this when the Katana line went on deep discount during the Holidays and seeing how the new Katana 50 MKII EX adds essentially nothing but cost 70 USD more my fears were warranted.
