    A basic overview showing how it works and what it's got, which is lots! Including pretty much every classic boss pedal you could want.
    This versatile modeling amp is a solid tone factory and has been really enjoyable so far. The tones are simply so usable right away out of the box!
    I'll show you the controls and some examples of the classic tones it produces. In my opinion this is above what I had hoped and beyond my expectations. You have to work hard to get anything less than great tone from it.

    Fantastic demonstration Mike. You were really able to bring out all of the things this amp can do. Definitely one of the better presentations I’ve see on the Katana. 👍 ⭐️💥

    I have the MK2 head in my 20 year old Mesa 4x12. Can definitely hold up to everything else I have.... easily. And I have GEAR. Definitely gig worthy. Fantastic pedal platform amp, if you're a pedal junkie. There's many incredible tricks this amp can do that no one really talks about.
    It's quickly becoming a secret weapon.

    Thanks for the review. I’m considering a new amp and this looks like a strong contender. Is it a lot better than the normal Katana 100? It’s quite a lot more money. I’m also looking at the Line 6 Catalyst amps but the need for a midi footswitch is putting me off and they seem a bit less versatile.

  • @thecentralscrutinizerr
    @thecentralscrutinizerr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Here's the question (and most everybody leaves this out), how many simultaneous effects does it allow to be ran at once?
    I know you can hook up effects to it, but you can do that with any amp.
    This is why the Boss GT-100 is still my goto guitar processor. Completely assignable control of the entire footswitch array, from momentary effects (ala Eddie Van Halen) to multiple effects (and their parameters) being changed with either the foot switch or the expression pedal.
    Want to cut the mids, bump the treble, turn on the phaser, activate the Wah, turn off the reverb, activate the delay, and turn on the lead boost all with a single button press?
    You can do that with the Boss GT-100.

    Great review! I'm hearing some high frequency sparkles on the acoustic guitar which I believe you are not suppose to hear from just a 12 inch woofer without the tweeter. Did you get that high end from the line out or the mic?

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic
      @Chinaguitarsceptic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I took pretty much all of the line out signal when I heard the recording back. It seems to have an IR almost identical to the speaker in the combo. It's the best line out representation of an amp ice ever heard. You are right though, for some reason the acoustic does sound slightly zingy. I hadn't noticed until you pointed it out. It's subtle and doesn't it me of using it but I would eq it a little for a recording.

    • @madcarrot2022
      @madcarrot2022 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chinaguitarsceptic Thanks for the update.. Im really learning towards getting one of these amps, I occasionally need an acoustic amp this seems can get the job done adequately, which is a huge plus. I heard lot people saying the modelling amp lacks the attack response of a valve amp and feels very different, do you feel the same? I'm considering either this or a Marshall DSL40CR/ Blackstar HT40 MKII as main amp.

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic
      @Chinaguitarsceptic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Steven Avis there will be a difference as modellers have to convert the signal, however latency is so minimal I've not really 'felt' it. You could say it's no worse than the effects of the tube amp squish/sag compression effect. So it could be argued that the opposite is true.
      If you're a super high end player who can feel such tiny differences, then you'll probably be spending ten times this for an amp anyway. At the same time players like that can usually make any gear sound great.
      I was very happy with the sound of the acoustic guitar settings and would be very happy to gig with this amp.
      As always I would try one out for yourself at a store if you can. I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised how usable all of the tones are immediately. It's been voiced brilliantly and just sounds right and feels responsive to play.

    • @madcarrot2022
      @madcarrot2022 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chinaguitarsceptic Thanks for the reply. I'm the opposite of a high end player - just getting into electric guitar and want a decent amp to start with. Somehow all the local stores run out of all Katanas. The Marshall DSL40CR sounds amazing I'm sure i'll be very happy with it, but really love the feature and versatility of the Katana, your acoustic demonstration is what really sold me I thought I can get away with this for my acoustic without getting a fishman loudbox for occasional use. I also like the fact that this has a top end speaker in it, I own a lot hi-fi speakers, the upper spectrum of the same speaker brand makes huge difference. Most people seem speak very highly about the Katana, the criticism usually around "does not feel like an valve amp" or does not cut through band mix very well. If an advanced player like you cannot feel the responsiveness difference then it should be more than good enough for me. Have you tried this in live situation?

    The WAZA speaker is the un acknowledged star of the combo and the reason it is 2 bills more than the head. It’s really amazing and is ‘tuned’, so to speak, to the Katana. It sounds even better after it breaks in. Maybe the best amp pound for pound ever made. I own a JC120, Quilter, Orange Rocker head, and an ENGL Fireball head. Owned Fenders and Marshalls. Not going to lie the ENGL is better, but also costs 4 x as much and is loud, Loud, and LOUD regardless of attenuation. Even more amazing with the Katana is when you use the MIDI input for your Helix or whatever. That speaker is a real star, believe me, it sounds so good I rarely use the other amps. I do think you need another 2x12 preferably the one that goes with this for a big enough metal sound if you are playing with another guitarist who is using a Marshall or something.

      I was going to purchase a marshall tube amp for killer sound, but was in Nashville a few ago saw several bands had the katana artist mk 2. I asked them why not a tube amp. they said that it sounds almost as good or 80% of a tube amp but prefer solid state cuz they're constantly hauling amps around and dont want to worry about broken tubes or replacing tubes.. these two guitar players at two different bars on Broadway were excellent and both use the katana artist mk 2 with the GA-FC footcontroller. They both said almost as good as tube but better versatility and functionality. hot and cold weather hauling an amp in and out constantly gigging. They said no worry with dealing with tubes. The katana 100 artist mk 2 was plenty loud and they preferred the amp to a helix or pod go pedal. I literally came home from Nashville and ordered the katana artist mk2 over the Marshall DSL 40....
