Your video has brought back some happy memories, my dad had the very same engine! It was army surplus, they used them to drive generators. My dad used his to power a circular saw bench. He sold it to a work colleague of mine in the early '70s who had a Douglas Dragonfly, which had the same flat twin engine. I had the privilege of riding it a couple of times.
Well I can say I thoroughly enjoyed the will it start series on the douglas and I'm glad she went in the end and doesn't she sound good! I don't think you need a silencer. Great to see another rare engine go again, great vid as always 👍
Excellent work. Great to see Dougy running. I was literally on the edge of my chair willing it to fire as you were cranking it and adjusting the carb. After all your efforts I bet that can of John Smiths tasted better than the finest champagne. Congratulations. I will finally get a good night's sleep myself tonight.😂
Well done your perseverance has paid off and this beautiful Douglas come to life it sounds really good , I agree that it needs a new trolley stand as that cage is terrible really takes the attention away from the motor looks forward to next video 👍👍
Well done Adam,,,,, almost sorry to see you get her running as I have really enjoyed the Douglas series... looking forward to seeing her prettied up a bit..
Great to see it run after spent so much time to this old piece of equipment. Needless to say about the patience you got. I probably gave up quite sooner. Keep the old stuff running!
Hi there have been watching your frustration with the Douglas, if you get a bottle of cokeacola and fill the bores up with coke it may free up as it has worked for me here in New Zealand, and use a Pease of wood and tap the top of the pistons every few hours and remember to be patient with her, all the best Kiwi Pip.
The part with the needle and spring holding the bowl on is the mixture screw, there can sometimes be an "O" ring hidden inside, the jet buried in the recess is your main jet, the one you found as you put the carb in the bath would be an emulsion tube, the three tiny ones under the rotating cap are enrichment jets. I'm glad you found them all and cleared them but still by some of us standards it still needs cleaning, items like carburettors need to be spotless. I'm really glad it's now running and it sounds lovely.
Awesome video Sir! Been watching your progress on this one ! I know the feeling of getting something like this up and running . Hell i even went and sucked down some suds and celebrated. Great video ...congratulations.
If you can put the hand on a reference about that engine, it would a good idea to redo the base adjustments, that would ease greatly the starting. very good project very good video
It's funny how the names of tools change depending on their location. The wrenches he calls Spanners, we call open end wrenches. "Spanners" here have 2 pins that fit in holes for turning things. Interesting. kind of like in UK they call flashlights Torches,
Mr. Mancave, you need to find a mate that will let you cut the "whiskers" off of his guitar. Put them in the end of a envolope and tape or thumb-tack it to the wall 3:44
Nice job on an old motor, but having the exhaust pointed at the fuel tank is kinda scary. Not to mention the wet fuel line connection at the filter inlet. All it would take is one good backfire and POOF.
At 8:27, I mention last time that that was not clean! At 19:10, he didn't tighten that fitting, unless he did it off camera!! At 28:55, turn the switch on!!
Sounds really good! Maybe just alittle more tweaking with the carb and get it to idle . But other than that it sounds really good for an 80 + year old engine.
finally it f*king runs i've been watching this since part one. well played man ( sounds nice to ) one more thing remember what controls you had it set at when it started ( wonder if it will still run with the hand crank)
Great Video Adam!! But, I still think that the mag needs a damn good refurb! It appears not to be creating much of a spark. In fact I'd go as far to say, that it couldn't ignite a fart in a gas factory, lol. Also, the fuel in the bowl looks iffy too, a bit like a hangover p*ss, but maybe that's coz it's a petrol / oil mix?? Nice engine though, and always great to see you tinkering with these old engines. I just wish I could do the same. Keep em coming mate, love yer channel.👍👍👍
When it tries to Start just leave things alone, do not suddenly change choke throttle settings etc, give it s chance. Also try gaskets to seal whole air intake system, needs less air leaks.
Nice one Adam. I have never seen carb like that one and was feeling your pain, especially when you added fuel to the bores and there was no vapor at all. I really like horizontally opposed twins and they run really steady. Look at how your engine ran smoothly on top of a crate. I was thinking when it wouldn't start. I had a Citroen 2CV many years ago, with a very similar engine. The spark fired twice over each 4 strokes of the cylinder, meaning there was a spark on the exhaust stroke as well as compression. I was wondering whether in the mag there are two or one lobe for the points. The weird Citroen thing was that the spark on one cylinder jumped from anode to electrode, but the resulting spark was essentially the same. I am not bored with the Douglas. Like the Enfield diesel it is truly something different. Well done your persistence has paid and all for the cost of a couple of spark plug leads. I wonder what these engines were used for?
Hello Mr Cave, congratulations on getting the douglas going, runs lovely,, now what would it be used for?? !st time I have contacted you as I live in East Suffolk, My collection consists of a David Brown 1200, DB Crawler, DB 885, Massey Ferguson 590 & a fprd Ranger!!
I watched it last night too, it's not exactly the same content. Methinks there may have been a product placement issue, the closing scene seems to have been partly removed then that was taken down and a completely different finish edit for the final version. Seems poor Adam hasn't just been battling the Douglas engine.
Well worth the wait. Sound’s bloody lovely. I could almost smell the fumes sitting in Australia. Rodney Hart Australia 9.10p.m.
well done mukka thats a boxer awesome
The excitement after all that effort. Congratulations
Well done old boy , got me jumping out the chair when her started👍👍👍

The wall in front of your workbench. Very handy to poke through jets to clean them out.

Excellent! Congratulations
so pleased for you 😁👌👍
It's all quite worthwhile when it works!
Im wondering if its the same size engine that Douglas put in their motorbikes? 350 cc and renowned for reliability👍 well done for getting it running.
Well done 👏
