Oh Rox, the little video at the end has made me feel quite tearful. You look absolutely wonderful in your skirt and jersey, the skirt fits beautifully and is the perfect length too. I love the colour combination and how it looks on you. It's an outfit so reminiscent of those my Highland grandmother lived in, in the seventies. You really rock the seventies Highland granny core!! :) You might recall that you bought those kits as a result of a comment I had made, either here, or in your Ravelry group - it's a while ago, I can't recall which. I remember the unboxing video you made. And then subsequently I have felt somewhat guilty as neither the jersey nor the skirt have been straightforward for various reasons. But it's all turned out so well, thanks to your tenacity and skill. I have several skirts made from 'skirt packs' (like the one you made here) mostly found in charity shops and the way you have constructed it - petersham rather than a waistband is how they are all made, I find this construction by far the most comfortable, I must say. I hope you find occasions to wear and enjoy this outfit and I'm really glad you are feeling better. xx
I love that you're always learning new things. Some people cling to the areas where they are skilled because of the status that brings them, and they are afraid to look silly or to submit themselves to another authority, and that keeps them from experiencing the abundance of things there is to learn and do. You have such a great attitude, Rox. And even the area in which you're an expert, you never come across as arrogant or know-it-all.
Fantastic work on the skirt! Don’t say it’s not perfect because it fits you perfectly and you did a wonderful job with the finishing details. My great aunt was a sewist and your skirt reminds me of the garments she made back in the 60’s. Thanks for sharing!
You did a great job Roxanne on the skirt. In home-ec class in 11th grade, I am 70 so many moons ago, we had to make an a-line skirt , we were not allowed to use a plaid material, that was the only material I had and brought it to class, the teacher was not happy, I made the skirt, matched the seams perfectly to her dismay, she gave me and A- because I did not follow her directions of not using plaid material. I learned to sew at the age of 12 , I don't sew a lot now except for quilt tops and don't know that I could match a plaid now. Good Job!
Love this story. I’m a year younger than you are and I learned to sew at 12. I’m sure you could still match a plaid as it mostly takes care and sticktoitiveness.
I am literally stunned by the excellence of your skirt and sweater combo - you look truly regal in it and I am convinced this kit waited for you to find it. This is an heirloom set and I hope you both treasure it and relish it, thank you so much for this amazing demo!
To echo everyone else: your skirt came out great and looks fantastic on you, especially with the sweater! Made me so happy (sewing is my first and true love, so seeing my fav TH-camr dabbling in sewing made me ecstatic)! And I'm so envious of your goodie bag--the wooden contraption is, as you learned, a point turner but also a clapper (even though your base doesn't "clap" like some stand-alone clappers)...I've also seen it called a pounding block. Great for pressing bulky seams or creasing fabric that can't take much/any heat. Really nice score. And I'm so impressed with your spinning! Such fine singles--that yarn will make a gorgeous sweater (whether you choose to dye some of it or not). Can't wait to see it take shape. 💓
Wow Rox, your skirt and sweater vintage outfit is stunning! You should be so proud. You have that "I can do it" attitude--I probably would have given up. Thanks for sharing, always nice to watch your video while I knit away.
Your skirt and sweater together look great.. Really lovely. I love that motto, "Make some progress, not to be Perfect". It is so good you were able to find the classes to get the learning and support you needed. Love it.
The skirt turned out so well! You tackled some really ambitious skills and I personally like the choice of flat lining it. If it's handwoven wool it will benefit from the extra support the flat lining gives. I'm excited to see where your handwoven sweater project goes from here 😊
Awesome job on your skirt! And it's such a pretty color. My jaw dropped when you started talking about the thread buttons, (I forget what style you called it) I very recently learned how to make a Yorkshire button which I used to finish a 50's era sweater. Rather than thread, I used the same yarn as the sweater which was a lightweight fingering almost lace weight. Gosh it's a small world! I should connect with your Ravelry group and post photos. And thank you for the motivation, that project was one that's been sitting untouched for over a year! I also finished sewing together a blanket I had knit as a gift for my brother. The wool was a leftover from our mother who passed away 30 years ago. All the same yarn but lots of different colors, so I made strips and the sewing together was what got set aside. I'm so grateful for your videos. 😀
What a successful finish it February you had. Thanks for inspiring me. I redid a pair of socks with yarn better suited to the pattern, tried to finish a pair of fingerless gloves using three different patterns and none of them showcased the gorgeous cashmere yarn I was trying to showcase, and I repaired two purses and a pair of jeans. I also have a twisted-stitch cowl sitting next to me that I need to start anew on. Feels really great to have made such progress.
I was waxing nostalgic yesterday, and I started looking at old youtube videos. I found some of your early videos - -14 years ago. You have really been at this a long time. Then, I continued to look through them and found I had been looking at them for a long time. A wealth of instruction and information. Thanks.
I am sew (sorry for the pun) with your finished skirt project. I remember when you purchased the kit! The skirt is lovely and works so beautifully with the sweater. I wish you many years of happiness wearing the 2 items!
Roxanne, sew can she, on TH-cam, has a continuous bias tape making tutorial. It's really cool, so it's not fiddley. When you sew something else with bias binding so simple with this method. Thanks for all you teach and create ❤❤❤
Wow!! Amazing! Stunning! I probably would have given up, and I admire your perseverance!! The skirt fits perfectly, sweater is a terrific match. Beautiful outfit! Thanks for sharing your journey! Sooo much work on both pieces, worth every minute. Be proud of this gorgeous outfit! You truly inspire!!
Well done on the skirt! It looks fantastic. I've seen a lot of folks use flat lining, particularly those who make historical clothing since it was the typical technique used in, e.g., the Victorian age, so it's certainly not uncommon even for professionals. Looking forward to seeing your dye tests and swatches for the hand-spun yarn! I love that you're always learning new skills and growing. Such an inspiration!
Enjoyed this so much! Your blue cardigan is gorgeous & the fit is perfect! Back in the 60’s I did a lot of sewing. I loving matching plaids. I did the same type of lining; I thought it was called under-lining, but maybe that’s incorrect. Your skirt is beautiful.
Great job on your skirt. It looks beautiful inside and out which is the goal with fine couture. Your weight loss also explains the new fitted sweaters.
You did a fabulous job on your skirt and a perfect fit. I love how you did the lining and hem. Great job!! Love the sweater you knit to go with it. I know it was a long learning journey but so well worth the results. Congratulations!!!!
Oh wow. Your new outfit looks fantastic Roxanne. Great work!! I’ve been turning a heel on a sock while watching you (my 3rd pair) and as soon as you produced the clapper I new what all of the angles were for (I’m a sewist before a knitter) I’ve used a Hongkong finish on the seams and hem of an unlined jacket and it’s always lovely to see how nice the inside looks Thanks for sharing Roxanne 🙋🏼🏴
I am a longtime sewist and I think you did a heck of a job on your skirt. I think the whole outfit looks lovely, and the sweater is one of my favorites too. Love the spinning you did. I'm partial to purple, but I think grey is neutral so it goes with any color. The workshop you attended sounds terrific. I wasn't as successful in FIF. I made the Zippered Neck, but can't find the right color zipper. I've got lots of projects, from knitting, sewing, needle felting, etc. but 'frozen shoulder' is really slowing me down. The buttons you made are really interesting. I can see something like that on a future garment.
Ooooh. I knew the lining punchline from the get-go! But you saved the day! Congrats. Good job on the whole outfit. For Finish-it February, I finished 2 sweaters ( been around for a few years--one I started as a KAL with my neighbor before the pandemic), and repaired two pairs of wristlets and the thumb of a Latvian mitten! My friends liked the term 'pile of ambiguity.'
I don't wish to sound boastful but I am an accomplished sewer with qualficaions in pattern cutting and design, and have made everything from wedding dresses to mens suits, I only say this so that you will see I know what I am saying, and I want to say your skirt is excellent, to do a hong kong finish is not easy, nor is pattern matching, particularly if you have a problem with colour, and to say you haven't made a garment for many years, you have done a spectacular job. We can always find fault, that's how we keep learning. I wonder if what you have learnt in knitting helped you with this project, after all the paitence and the willingness to try to get to the bottom of the technique and understand why it is done the way it is essential to a good finished object. I am so pleased for you and I am sure you will get many compliments when you wear your sweater and skirt.
Beautiful job on your skirt. I loved listening to your journey as you learnt new things and made adjustments. Also love the bright colors you have been wearing recently. Barbara
Great work on the skirt! My grandmother was a professional tailor and she showed me how to do pattern matching on plaid - I LOVED plaid! So I appreciate the work it takes and you did a great job!
Thank you for your visit. I really enjoyed it. I loved your skirt and I remember when I was learning how to sew that we had to use Harris Tweed material that was really expensive. I couldn't get the hang of it and spent most of the time unpicking. My Mother made all our clothes and she was a fantastic knitter, gardener and cook as well as a brilliant Farmers wife. I let her down badly. My late Sister learned to sew in a boutique and I learned to knit, cook and run a business for 37 years. I still cannot sew to save myself but the knitting is so much improved. I love the death head buttons and have not seen these before. You are a great researcher and teacher and I have learned so much on your videos. You take it easy and we will catch up next time. Thanks for your time.
My finish it February was a bust. I got myself involved in making my husband and myself some wool socks. It was the first time making woolen socks and I’m kinda hooked, lol.
Wow I love seeing your sewing progress, I love the whole outfit. For the first time in years I knitting monogamous on a summer top Paloma by Libby Jonson, and I finished it while watching this. Started it in January.
Wow-Rox- I am stunned by how lovely the skirt turned out and how gorgeous you look wearing it!! It fits so well- it’s matched so well and this is not easy to do and you will have learned so many new and useful sewing skills. You must be seriously proud of yourself!! You certainly have inspired me to go forth with confidence and learn the things I’m hesitant about!! Much love from Alberta, Canada! 🧵 🪡 ✂️ 🫶🏼
Congratulations on your skirt! You did a wonderful job. I’ve been sewing since I was a young child and I’m 78…I line skirts the same way you did. It helps support the outer fabric. What a wonderful job you did on that skirt (and the sweater)! I'd never heard of Petersham ribbon before, I'll be looking it up (not that I will be using it at all - I do very little sewing and never clothing😂). As always, thanks for your videos.
I can’t knit much at the moment with tendinitis in both elbows. So I set the goal of reducing my mending/ alteration pile. Progress made!! And your skirt is lovely.
Nicely done with your skirt!! I took a Dorset button class at a fiber retreat and loved it. I want to make buttons that match my knitting and weaving projects. It's great to learn new skills!
Wonderful job on the skirt! I remember doing one of those kits back in New Zealand in the 70's, brought back pleasant memories. Thank you for your videos, I've learned and now use a lot of your techniques.
You must be so pleased with your finished skirt and sweater! I remember when you first shared the yarn and fabric kits. Enjoy wearing your new handmade outfit.
Your skirt looks beautiful! I had a huge list of things to finish in February. I didn't make it through all of them, but I am pretty happy with some, especially the shoulder bag that was sitting in my closet for two years waiting for me to sew the button for the closure back on. I am particularly happy about that.😁

That skirt is amazing and the smile on your face says it all. 🎉

The skirt and sweater are so classy. The blue really pops when the sweater is paired with it.
Roxanne, I love the skirt. I am glad you didn't give up. You have given me inspiration to line to my granddaughter ' jacket.
Well done on the skirt! It looks fantastic. Your skirt and sweater are gorgeous and fit beautifully! I love the skirt syle. Great work!
I would have decoupaged the manikin head the moment he came home. 😂 I love the idea of the 3D printed dome!
My finish it February was a bust. I got myself involved in making my husband and myself some wool socks. It was the first time making woolen socks and I’m kinda hooked, lol.
Very good job on the skirt! And the fit is perfect!
Love your skirt and your tenacity! Great episode
Wow your skirt came out nice. I remember when you got that kit. Thanks for showing it.
Wow I love seeing your sewing progress, I love the whole outfit. For the first time in years I knitting monogamous on a summer top Paloma by Libby Jonson, and I finished it while watching this. Started it in January.
Congratulations for your skirt !!! ❤❤❤
The skirt looks wonderful! You talked about the buttons, I am fascinated by Dorsett buttons. I bought a kit to learn how to do that
Excellent skirt Roxanne🤗
Wow-Rox- I am stunned by how lovely the skirt turned out and how gorgeous you look wearing it!! It fits so well- it’s matched so well and this is not easy to do and you will have learned so many new and useful sewing skills. You must be seriously proud of yourself!! You certainly have inspired me to go forth with confidence and learn the things I’m hesitant about!! Much love from Alberta, Canada! 🧵 🪡 ✂️ 🫶🏼
Again hurrah! I have huge button collection and have wondered what the one hole buttons are for. Thanks Roxanne
Congratulations on your skirt! You did a wonderful job. I’ve been sewing since I was a young child and I’m 78…I line skirts the same way you did. It helps support the outer fabric. So don’t apologize about that. Also, I haven’t seen the turtle neck sweater you wore. It’s so nice! Love 😊 color. And it fits you well, too.

congratulation on the skirt, it's beautiful !!!
Well done!!! All of your projects look great!
I love your sweater, it is just beautiful. And the more I look at it the more I like the patterning in it. Just lovely.
Thanks for another great video, I'm glad you're finding the hat form useful (I love Axeman too!) :-) The skirt (and sweater) looks great!
Wonderful job on the skirt! I remember doing one of those kits back in New Zealand in the 70's, brought back pleasant memories. Thank you for your videos, I've learned and now use a lot of your techniques.
Beautiful work.
You rock! What a great job on your skirt. Steam press and it’s perfect. I’m with you on being cautious with limited fabric.
You must be so pleased with your finished skirt and sweater! I remember when you first shared the yarn and fabric kits. Enjoy wearing your new handmade outfit.
Looks beautiful. You did a great job!
Beautiful skirt and sweater!
You get an A. Beautiful!
Oh! I loved the '60s sweater when you made it. And now the beautiful, pattern-matched--matching skirt! How wonderful! You always amaze me!
Your skirt looks beautiful! I had a huge list of things to finish in February. I didn't make it through all of them, but I am pretty happy with some, especially the shoulder bag that was sitting in my closet for two years waiting for me to sew the button for the closure back on. I am particularly happy about that.😁
Love the skirt!
Your skirt looks fabulous!!!
Great videos. Thanks.
