Thank you youtube for introducing me to Sharon Kam. This is my favourite version of the Mozart concerto, it just seems to sparkle with personailty. I have to get some of her recordings!
This is possibly the best performance of K622 that I've ever heard! It's not just the incredible richness of tone that she gets from the basset clarinet, It's the brilliance of her phrasing. I wish this was available on CD (or even better, SACD).
Excellent musician. I really enjoyed. Here in Brazil, in nordete, we are in need of such an instrument. I would post this video on my site on the clarinet, so that our students can enjoy this beautiful concert with a basset clarinet. Where our students are poor and do not have a bus to school. But through this video can enjoy this concert
WOW that is truly amazing! if anyone was wondering she is playing on a basset clarinet, its just like a Bb Clarinet but has keys going down to the low C or lower! Its built a bit differntly because its longer!
I heared her in life playing the same piece. That was probably one of the best performances of the Mozart clarinet concerto in the history. Blagoj Lamnjov
Great :) I really like the way she acts with the emotions. It means that she really feels the music. (By the way: there is no discussion possible, it clearly is a basset clarinet. You can see this because of the extra 'buttons' at the end. (I'm not English))
she is amazing! what beautiful tone..and like ken said she does move around a lot but its just part of a clarinets nature.. i know i catch myself doing it when i really get into music..lol yay for clarinetists
Whomever the clarinetist maybe Ms.Kam, Ms.Meyer,or Frost, I love there signatures. Maybe on day I can play half as good as them!!! Thanks for the video.
1:22 is my favorite part of the entire movement ..even though I prefer the third movement entirely. this is so beautiful! she can get so quiet when its necessary, but can project her sound over the entire audience. its amazing.
Great performance. I didn't used to care much for her playing (had a tendency to overdo the music) but she has matured quite a bit over the years. I have a much different opinion now. Equally amazing that she's playing this picec on the instrument for which it was written.
This is amazing. Her sound is SPOT ON. And its rare to see such emotion put into such a difficult piece. And anyone who says differently is purely jealous.
It is a great joy for me to hear you ! It´s true I am sure you can play perfectly what ever you want! Congratulations ! If you want to come to Vienna and give a concert with our V.Ph. Women´s Orchestra, you would be welcome ! I´ll send your video to Izabella, our conductor !
well just to put it out there...this was a job very well done! i'm a clarinet player myself and i've been playing since 4th grade. i have played this piece at interlochen for a student recital this past year, but i played it on a Bb clarinet NOT a basset, and i had it transposed to Bb. but i wish that i could have played it on a basset. it sounds soo much better!
Her playing is excellent. She can stand on her head for all I care. Beautiful! I'm practicing....W.H. Auden; Music deeply felt...there is no music...you are the music...
She is performing on a basset clarinet in A which is an extended soprano clarinet, not a basset horn which is an alto clarinet in F. Mozart wrote the piece for this instrument, (minus a few keys). The extended notes of a basset clarinet are C, C sharp, D and D sharp (or E flat, if you will). She is using a boehm clarinet, not a Germman system horn which fingers differently but has no effect on the range of the horn.
Anyone who says Sharon Kam moves too much is sadly unaware of what is truly there - amazing tone, dynamics, technique and skill. Perhaps if some people stopped checking out the person and actually listened?
WONDERFUL post. Thank you so much. Until now, Sabine Meyer was my favorite clarinetist. I just might have to update my thinking. Actually, without any disrespect to Meyer, I can have two favorites, can't I? ;)
A really great thing about this video is how the who ensemble works well together. Mozart just didn't write a solo. The accompaniment is only slightly less important than the solo. If you want to study this piece, keep this in mind.
Yeah. Being a composer, I can say that her claim that it's a Basset clarinet is true, seeing as how it frequently goes lower than the standard A clarinet is supposed to be able to go in its range. (Some of the runs would be taken an octave higher if this was an A clarinet!) In other news, it's nice to hear this concerto on its original instrument. Thanks for posting this!
you should listen to the recording that kari krikki did. You can buy it off amazon or something; but he came to singapore for a concert to perform with the singapore symphony orchestra earlier this year.
i am playing that for my sophmore solo only 1st movement thogh my band director were suggesting first 2 for my skill lvl but hey said the costs woudl be in the 120$ range for ifficulty
I'm a music teacher and a clarinetist and I say if you put in the time necessary to become good on clarinet, then go for it! I have a friend who started playing trumpet in the 9th grade and ended up majoring in trumpet performance at the Boston Conservatory. It is possible to start a new instrument late and get good at it.
you'd be suprised how into the music people can get. when i played clarinet i would bob back and fourth and not even realize it. if you get REALLY REALLY into the music the body natually moves with it
She's plays beautifully. I wonder how long she's played because she looks so young. I wonder if vanilla mood had a clarinet player in their group if she moved like that.
The lyrical interpretation and dynamic presentation make this performance a "classic" in a most elegant setting - kudos, Sharon!!!
The best version of the mozart clar conc that Ive heard on youtube, and possibly ever!
Such class and character effortlessly combined.

LOVELY! I also love 1. That she's playing a Bassett Clarinet (would love to have one) and that she's actually got the sheet music infront of her.
Great :)
I really like the way she acts with the emotions.
It means that she really feels the music.
(By the way: there is no discussion possible, it clearly is a basset clarinet. You can see this because of the extra 'buttons' at the end. (I'm not English))
Musical. Right to the Heart. PERFECT.
this is my favorite clarinet composition
I played like that when I was young. Do'nt think I looked that pretty while I did it. Hard instument to play and look graceful. Bravo!
she is amazing! what beautiful tone..and like ken said she does move around a lot but its just part of a clarinets nature.. i know i catch myself doing it when i really get into music..lol yay for clarinetists
Scintillating!! I love the final crescendo.
Whomever the clarinetist maybe Ms.Kam, Ms.Meyer,or Frost, I love there signatures. Maybe on day I can play half as good as them!!! Thanks for the video.
i love this piece amazingley played
1:22 is my favorite part of the entire movement ..even though I prefer the third movement entirely.
this is so beautiful! she can get so quiet when its necessary, but can project her sound over the entire audience. its amazing.
I simply cannot stop listening.
- Maravilhoso! O instrumento mais ousado, mais lindo e visualizado, tanto em banda como lindos solos!
Parabéns!
beautiful piece
Beautiful clarinet!
love mozart's music! Classical rox
wahhh i played this alot during high school, she plays it nicely
Simply amazing. The basset clarinet lends it a whole different flavour. It's so much better than playing it on B flat...
Great performance. I didn't used to care much for her playing (had a tendency to overdo the music) but she has matured quite a bit over the years. I have a much different opinion now. Equally amazing that she's playing this picec on the instrument for which it was written.
It is a basset clarinet, which is an A clarinet with an extension to the written C below middle C.
This is amazing.
Her sound is SPOT ON.
And its rare to see such emotion put into such a difficult piece.

Its STAVOVSKÉ Theatre(Nostitz theatre) in PRAG,where is Mozart plays premiere DON GIOVANNI
in 1787
It is really wonderful how you play it !
wow, wonderfully played!
beautiful.

Mozart: humanity redeemed through art, forgiven, and reconciled with nature and the absolute.
Finalmente un Mozart fraseggiato ma nello stesso momento puro! complimenti
Her playing is excellent. She can stand on her head for all I care. Beautiful! I'm practicing....W.H. Auden; Music deeply felt...there is no music...you are the music...
wow, she plays wonderfully!
Very nice interpretation ! Bravo!
a true clarinetist. ive never heard a basset before, and this is exscuisite.
excellent performance!

beautiful clarinet tone!
wonderful!!!!
I love her.
Oh, thank you!

weeeeeeeeeee nice the high notes and the low notes actually sounds like a clarinet and a bass clarinet!
her brother Ori is, IMHO, the world's finest viola player. So huge talent runs in the family. :)
WONDERFUL post. Thank you so much. Until now, Sabine Meyer was my favorite clarinetist. I just might have to update my thinking. Actually, without any disrespect to Meyer, I can have two favorites, can't I? ;)
not sure what i like more, the music, the performance technique, the camera movement or the lighting

thank you!
I stand corrected! I should have consulted the Urtext I have of this concerto published by Barenreiter before posting.
Thanks srmarvel
you should listen to the recording that kari krikki did. You can buy it off amazon or something; but he came to singapore for a concert to perform with the singapore symphony orchestra earlier this year.
yes, I assume it like our flute's Alto flute in G, probable it's in F, a 5th lower? so that her tone can be lowered and dark?
WOW she has hella good sound! nice job!
I love this! Anyone know where to get the music sheet for this song?
beautiful
@Godspell2007 That is because she is playing a concerto..
wow! she was so good ^^
Very good.
Actually, she is playing on a Bassett Clarinet. The Bassett Horn is clarinet with a curved bell and neck, pitched in F
Lovely
o i c, many thanks!
i am playing that for my sophmore solo only
1st movement thogh my band director were suggesting first 2 for my skill lvl but hey said the costs woudl be in the 120$ range for ifficulty

This is a real recording of her, it was shown as a part of an orchestral programon KCET.
It is very nice.
that is the nice music i ever heard
och she's great, the best sound in the world.
hermoso
I love it very much!!!!!!!!!
>
She is playing on a basset horn folks. She is moving like a singer.
GRANDE
actually incredible tone
I play flute and clarinet :) and I agree that she may be swaying a little too vigorously :) but she's excellent!!!
im performing this in my private lessons its really fun, wish i could perform it on basset orn like she is
Sharon Kam IS A BADASS! :P
That is freakin sick!
My goodness, I wish I could play that well. Hopefully I will in time, Im only in 10th grade so I hope I will eventually.
you'd be suprised how into the music people can get. when i played clarinet i would bob back and fourth and not even realize it. if you get REALLY REALLY into the music the body natually moves with it
Her tone isn't immature at all, she has a depth to her tone that most players don't have...
I want a mozart clarinet sooo badly :o
This is clarinet "la" you can by it everywhere!!!
o.O how i wish my band allowed the clarinets to stand up and play the pieces
She's plays beautifully. I wonder how long she's played because she looks so young. I wonder if vanilla mood had a clarinet player in their group if she moved like that.
Thanks for the comment about Sharon's "A" horn. I assume it is designed to enhance the lower register?
nice dress she has on and excellent concert theater hall
That is called: Emotion!
Can someone please tell me how she can tongue so fluently and if you know what style of tonguing she is using please tell me. thank you.
Yeas, Mozart uses the basset in his Gran Partita too
She's good!!!!
Could it be a Full_Boehm system, low Eb
wow. i wish i played my clarinet that good
yea she is
hmm, i'd pbbly look her up again for other pieces
can you send me that sheet music she was playing
Thanks for your information.. And Well.. is the basset clarinet still available on Market?
