Young Woman Is Free To Go After Drugs Seized | Cops | Real Responders

  • During a routine traffic stop, cops find a young woman with heroin. She claims she's been clean and is trying to turn her life around. The cops give her a second chance. Elsewhere officers pull over a man on a bike without lights. After giving a false identity the suspect attempts to flee from police.
    Real-life officers are followed by a camera crew, cinéma-vérité style, in a gritty up-close look at police work and the consequences of crime. It spawned a number of police-reality imitators.

    How can they send officers without bullet proof vests on, into a firearms situation?

    • @DetectiveTrupo203
      @DetectiveTrupo203 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't work like that. The officer has to go into the situation no matter what. The officer can choose to wear a vest or not, but thats just personal choice. You don't get a chance to put one on depending on the call. And it's not like vests are some magic shield, the plate is only 5 inches by 8 inches, you can easily get shot in the chest and it go through the vest, it can even go through the plate, or you can get shot anywhere else. Basically officers can wear one if they want, but if they don't they still will go into situations with guns, and even if they are wearing one it doesn't make them safe, they can die very easily either way.

    15:40 - this cop has no right to search her vehicle. That he sees a box of alchohol swabs isn't sufficient "probable cause" to lawfully search a vehicle. In the next few minutes you hear him say he "thinks he will find" certain items. The way he threatened the driver, by saying he has the right to otherwise tow the car - is totally unlawful!

    Can anyone answer this question for me? I am a bit confused by the scene that made the title of this episode. They pull over a female and request to search her vehicle, as the officer suspects he will find heroin. He does, and he lets her go. This, from my understanding, would be the only thing that can be done, because that scene occurred in Portland, Oregon. In 2020, Oregon passed Measure 10, which decriminalized the possession of all drugs, and has cops issue the individual with a $100 ticket that can be waive if they decide to call a hotline to provide resources for treatment. That being said, wouldn’t the cop have no choice but to allow the female to leave? She mentioned rehab and a probation officer, which is possibly why he decided to not issue a ticket, but I feel the title is misleading, because there’s no way the officer could have put her in jail for possession, as that’s exactly what the implementation of Measure 10 is meant to have not happen. This has nothing to do with my opinion on what should have been done. I’m just wondering if the cop had any other option (besides issuing a ticket)? Aside from when a person is in possession of a larger quantity of drugs, I don’t think there are any exceptions that allow cops to arrest and jail some people in possession, but not others. If anyone can provide more clarity, I would greatly appreciate it.
    And if I am correct in terms of my belief that that Measure 10 is still in effect in Oregon, and that the cop’s only option was to issue a $100 ticket (I’m not sure if the waiving of the ticket can occur in the presence of a cop or if a person can only waive their ticket once they’ve already been ticketed), I feel like the title of this episode should be changed. In my opinion, the title makes it seem like the cop is being too lenient, or that he is believing this woman who might be lying about not using. If Measure 10 is still in effect, then the title should say that “Young Woman’s Drugs Seized Yet She’s Free to Go Because of Oregon’s Drug Decriminalization Policy”. This is a very unique situation that I don’t think many people know about in other parts of the US, and it’s certainly unfair to police to make them look like their fools or are being too easy on a young pretty woman, when the reality is it’s the state that prevents him from punishing her (more severely than confiscating the drugs and/or issuing a ticket).

    • @amandaacker7150
      @amandaacker7150 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could be wrong but in Colorado they decriminalized mushrooms. From my understanding it means it’s up to the officer if they want to ticket or not. Not meaning they have to let them off with nothing. It also could be different state to state but that’s what it is here.

    Pulling up a person for no reason other than that you have time on your hands and nothing better to do, is a blatant violation of basic right to privacy. Later on saying, "you didn't show hand signals in the dark" , doesn't even qualify as a fig leaf to cover the gross illegality.

    I feel sorry for the guy in the first clip. Completely unnecessary force.
